"The third instalment of the Roy Groves story sees Ray Green also continue his impressive evolution as an established author. This particular episode includes the usual business-like themes featured in the first two books, but with an added injection of adrenaline-pumping, thrilling adventure ... "
Chuck Kabel is on a business trip to China, visiting the factory to which his UK-based company subcontracts the manufacture of its products. He unexpectedly collapses and dies at the airport before he is able to report on his visit. When the Chinese authorities are evasive about the exact cause of death, the suspicions of his boss, Roy Groves, are raised. Roy decides to investigate further; it soon becomes clear that there are serious financial irregularities within the Chinese company, and that dark forces are in play, intent on ensuring that these do not come to light. When Roy edges closer to uncovering the truth, he is warned off but refuses to back down, unaware that he is about to confront the Chinese Mafia, who will stop at nothing to achieve their objectives. When his own family are targeted by his opponents, Roy embarks on a desperate battle to protect them, now well aware that if he should turn to the police their lives will be in even greater danger. Chinese Whispers is a frightening tale of organised crime and the way in which it uses and abuses legitimate business for its own illegal purposes, relentlessly destroying the lives of anyone who stands in the way.
Ray Green is married with two daughters and lives in West Sussex, England. He graduated from Southampton University with a BSc in Physics and then went on to a career spanning some 30 years in the electronics manufacturing industry. For much of that time, he was operating at Director level in several different companies, and so is well qualified to give an insight into the world of business and corporate politics. Buyout, Ray's first novel, is based on his actual experience of carrying out a management buyout. It is, however, a work of fiction: the companies, characters and much of the plot in Buyout are different from those that figured in the MBO which inspired this story. The sequel, 'Payback', charts the fortunes of the principal characters on 'Buyout' over the next few years.
Another Instalment in a Series that Just Keeps Getting Better
The third Roy Groves novel finds our hero returning to drag his old company out of the corporate mire, and finding himself dragged into something far nastier and more dangerous. No longer are bad deals, underhand competitors or even vengeful psychopaths the worst Roy has to face: this time the bad guys kill without compunction and reckon they don’t have to worry about the consequences. The result is a skilfully-told thriller, where the business build-up and the heart-stopping action (and believe me, there’s plenty of that) are cleverly woven together to produce a relentless plot that drives with pace and panache through to an explosive denouement. As well as old favourites from Buyout and Payback, there are some fascinating new characters who slide effortlessly into Roy’s world and throw an exciting new dimension into the action.
Another great book in what’s proving to be an immensely readable series.
Roy Groves and his family, friends and business colleagues have left their business troubles behind them and life is running smoothly. Or is it? This story starts with a bang when the manufacturing company’s man in China dies unexpectedly, just as he was due to submit a report on his investigation into problems with the Chinese operation, where production has recently been moved to. Why would a young healthy man suddenly die of a heart attack, everyone wonders? Roy’s old friend, serial womaniser Len, is summoned back from retirement and asked to go to China to find out what’s what. Despite being lured into a honey trap, Len uncovers a horrendous tale of shenanigans, and only just manages to escape back to England with his life. What follows is sheer unadulterated excitement, adventure and nail-biting terror, as Roy’s ex-special forces son-in law goes on a solo mission against the Chinese Triads, who kill without hesitation. This is very realistic, chilling, but most of all exciting book, that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Unlike Ray Groves’s other books, this is an all-out thriller, with plenty of action, violence, kidnapping and intrigue. Once you start it, you have to know what happens. But even alongside the thrills and action, the warmth of the good characters still shines through, and you find yourself rooting for the good guys, who do eventually triumph. How do they manage to outwit the Triads? You’ll have to read the book to find out. You won’t regret it.
5A Great Read Ray Green combines the shenanigans of a UK manufacturing plant with a stylish thriller. This is a brilliant 2nd sequel to his first book Buyout and I really enjoyed it. The logistics held my interest, to a point where I even found myself explaining a little about supply and demand to a friend who couldn't understand why companies ran out of stock - it was enlightening. The suspense is well maintained throughout leading to a thrilling escape and a gripping climax - where the momentum did not drop and with many more twists to come. I thoroughly recommend it.
