This is a wonderful reference book about the leaders of the Army of Northern Virginia. It provides thumbnail information on the colonels, lieutenant colonels and majors who lead the regiments and battalions of the ANV. It does not give information on any of the general officers of the ANV, so if you were looking for a colonel who was promoted to General, he would not be listed in the biographical section.

The book is broken down into three sections. An a-to-z listing of the colonels, lieutenant colonels and majors with thumbnail information. A list of the units of the ANV with the colonels, lieutenant colonels and majors of each unit. And, a listing of the colonels, lieutenant colonels and majors of the Army of Tennessee, with no biographical information.

This is a companion book to the Staff Officers in Gray.

Boring...only got a the Book because my ancestor Lt. Col Newton J. George was listed in there. I was disappointed at the brevity of his and most others bios
