I recently found my copy of this book again, and I was really surprised because I didn't even know anymore that I bought it. I remember reading it several times, maybe even 8-9 times. To be able to tell what I liked the most about this book, I should read it again because by now it has been several years since I last read it. I think this was one of my favorite books when I was about 14years old. There are still scenes I remember, the part on the beach for example and the awkward situation when the party is canceled and Greg didn't know. I loved how he was there for her, even when she kept pushing him away. Yes, I definitely liked this book :)
This book is very special to me. I’m not sure where I found it as a child but I’ve been reading it over and over again since I was a preteen. My copy is so battered now but I’m clinging onto it. This was strangely one of my introductions to the romance genre or at least one of the first books to really make me appreciate the romance plot in a wider story. Of course it has so much more to say and the use of fairy tales to explore quite dark and distressing themes like CSA is very empathetic and helped me as a child, who had luckily never experienced anything akin to what has happened to Magdalen, to understand and empathise with others who might have gone through this.
Thank you June Oldham for writing a book that I’ve been reading repeatedly for 20+ years.
