Primarily an autobiography, though Jolley gradually introduces her thoughts on writing as the book progresses. I came away somewhat disappointed as there wasn't as much of the latter as I'd hoped for; the overall tone of the book was heavier as well. Worth reading, but not going out of one's way to do so. Definitely try some of her fiction first.
To be re-read and re-read and ... . I loved this book - for its quirky perspective; its precise language; comments on writing; comments on Hardy and on music; and the wonderful, wonderful written landscapes.
