You never know where your words will take you . . .
When Mikaela Finn agreed to be Sam’s ‘fiancée’ for a weekend, she probably should have told him that she’s a doctor.
Sam O’Brien, a.k.a. ‘Dr. Eye Candy’, is trying to shed his playboy reputation and convince a small town hospital that he’s ready to settle down. But when his ‘fiancée’ helps deliver a baby in the middle of the meet and greet, it’s a bit of a shock. If he’d known the whole truth, Sam might have done things a little differently because somehow his ‘fiancée’ ends up stealing his job and his heart. Not exactly the change he wanted.
Award-winning author Linda O’Connor started writing romantic comedies when she needed a creative outlet other than subtly rearranging the displays at a local home décor store. Her books have enjoyed bestseller status. When not writing, she’s a physician at an Urgent Care Clinic. She shares her medical knowledge in fast-paced, well-written, sexy romances – with an unexpected twist. Her favourite prescription to write? Laugh every day. Love every minute. “You never know where your words will take you.” The opening to the blurb of the book provides for the premise for the entire story. This is a story that keeps you involved from page one. You become caught up with the lives of the characters due to the constant changes in conflict and the characters’ surprise reactions to the conflict.
The story gives an interesting look into the lives, concerns, and clash of two doctors thrown together by very unusual circumstances. The hero and heroine learn to overcome their issues, foibles, and learned responses to ultimately make a commitment. Throughout the story the characters continue to develop depth and believability. The author has a grasp of dialogue that enhances the characters’ individuality. This is a modern romance for those who love medical stories or just plain love stories. If you start to read this, plan your time wisely as you will not be able to put it down.
Linda O’Connor has introduced two delightful characters—Mikaela and Sam—who are thrown together by a little white lie. A natural storyteller, Linda excels in character development and dialogue. I was captivated from the opening scene and read the book in two sittings. Congrats on an excellent debut!
I fell in love with the characters and the writing style immediately. I love the Canadian flavor and the Horoscopes heading the chapters are a great idea. Linda O'Connor is a physician and her knowledge of the workings of actual doctor life show. No false notes I this story and to be Perfectly Honest, I can't wait for her next book.
This was a free book that I won from Goodreads! Thank goodness that I did. It was a quick read, but it was fun, frolicking, fantasy, fictional, but I totally enjoyed it. I kept looking to see how many pages were left, trying to out-guess what would happen.
Thanks for totally taking my mind away for normal day living!
Great book. I loved the story line and learned a lot what a doctor has to go through getting privileges at a hospital. The friendship between the girls was heart-warming. I can't wait for the next book in this series about Margo
Romance with a twist of mistaken identity makes for a fun read! Enjoyed the writing style of Ms. O'Connor and wish I had been able to finish it faster than what my free time allowed. I look forward to other books by her. I received my copy from a goodreads giveaway.
I absolutely loved this book! The hillarious and romantic story between Mikaela and Sam reminded me of Sophie Kinsella's writing. Patiently waiting for the remaining two books!
I was misled by the reviews that did not mention how weird the pacing in this was. They do the deed almost immediately and they fall in love right with the orgasm. I’m sorry, but really that was how it was... it was worse than instalove because it only hit them when they had amazing sex. The hero could be a saint for putting up with all the conclusions the heroine jumped to. She got used by one guy in the past and branded all men with the same brush... and she’s the epitome of why Eckhart said that “the price of inaction is far greater than making a mistake.” She didn’t DO anything! Instead she wallowed and thought about everything while paralyzed into inaction by her irrational fears about everything - change, men, responsibility. Really, her biggest enemy was herself and her mind. She had nothing to lose if she confronted her feelings and the hero head on. I say that because they weren’t really together and she was already planning on leaving him when their agreed time ended - the similar outcome that she dreaded would come about if she confessed. She inconveniently forgot about the significant chance for a happy relationship if she confessed. This was also a case of too much saying without showing. Hero showered her leadership with praises and yet I didn’t see much of her leadership weaved into the story. I think this girl is very lucky that sometimes people can’t help who they love and that this great guy fell in love with her before discovering all her personality traits. I do not think she deserves him and I was not convinced their love would be long lasting. Initially was going to give this 2 stars but after writing this I realize I didn’t like it at all. Quick-read the last half.
This was a really great story. Mikaela was an ob-gynecologist and she was a junior partner in the hospital where she had completed her training. She met Sam, who was an ophthalmologist with special training, and he needed her to attend a Special meeting with a board of directors . He needed her to pretend she was his fiancé’. Well, he didn’t know she was a doctor, and she ended up delivering a baby, in the lobby, where they were having this dinner. Great story, but has complications. You will enjoy the journey these two have.
This book was very detail heavy in the beginning and the end was rushed and not as detailed as the front half of the book. I felt like there was some character development that needed to happen that I felt was lacking. I also didn't know if I loved the plot - it was a bit predictable and the reader knew what was going to happen next. The reader wanted to get more from the book and the character's and the book. This one was a let down read for me.
An entertaining book. The medical details were accurate and the doctors' lives were realistic. The chemistry between the lovers was well crafted, along with the ups and downs of their developing relationship (poor communication led to problems - a mistake we all make). I plan to read it again, and will definitely buy another in the series.
Cute romantic story about how a little white lie can turn your world upside down. Mikaela is painting a house because a friend needs her help when she meets Sam. He convinces her to be his make believe fiancee for a weekend. When she has to deliver a baby things get complicated. I think you will enjoy this book.
Well drawn characters, circumstances that spiral out of control. My favorite part was when Mikaela thought she might be "Elliotting" Sam. Smart, more capable than she realizes, she finds her happily ever after with Dr. Eye Candy
Enjoyed the story, the characters, and the writing was done well. Interesting take on how things work in the hospitals. Knowing the author has a medical background (read about it) makes the information for interesting.
Perfectly Honest is a fast paced contemporary romance. Dr. Mikaela Finn helps out a friend in a bind and gets caught up in a lie. What can one little moment of concealment really do? Out of that lie she makes changes she has been reluctant to make for a good job and a relationship that scratches many itches. But it all began with not sharing truths. Mikaela wrestles with the notion that actions are supposed to speak louder than words when she doubts Sam, the man she grows to respect and possibly love.
Perfectly Honest is a great romance that had this reader thinking about the spiraling effects of those little lies we think that couldn't possibly hurt anyone. But we can never know for sure.
The author wove an interesting story around great character development. It is super because it's easy to imagine the story is true. The people are real. Very entertaining.
