A prince in search of the girl of his dreams falls into the trap of a perfidious fortune-teller, who will stop at nothing to attain her sinister aims. She transforms herself into the longed-for princess, but the spell is broken and… read the story to find out what happens. Illustration from one of the thirty-one stories present in the first collection of "Fairytales and Fables Never Told".
Incredibly beautiful artwork, but the story was so misogynistic... I hated the prince, wanting an impossible perfection of a woman while he himself was willing to use a love potion to force her to fall in love with him. And in the end he was rewarded?
Not the right kind of message to send to children.
A young prince seeks the perfect girl of his dream. He has a picture in his mind that depicts beautifully attractive young girl without any flaws in her appearance. It doesn't matter if she is virtuous or not. Therefore he goes to the kingdom's fortune teller who has a evil agenda of her own.
Will the prince be able to find this maiden who rules over his heart? And what has the hagged looking fortune teller planned for the prince?
This book describes that good deeds and virtues is what makes a person beautiful, physical beauty may fade and eventually become dull but if you are good and kind towards others your soul will forever shine bright as the rising sun.
Wishing for a princess should definitely be read by the kids to instill its moral from the early stage of their lives because this is the time when they are ultimately shaping their future.
A short fairy tale written in a classic style, reminiscing those written long time ago. Finding such story was quite pleasant as I thought this art was lost!
I'm forgiving some styles in the prose that might seem a bit odd since I'm guessing its some sort of translation error. Beautiful short and meaningful!
A fresh air in a world of re-tellings and "empowerment" tales. A story that teaches but not preaches!
Lessons:
Don't settle for less. Seek out what you really want. Don't trust just anybody. Dirty tricks could bring you down. Be kind and you might be rewarded. Even the wicked can be redeemed. Beauty is not only skin deep.
=========
I'm going to stick out as a sore thumb here but I love it!
Some may call it misogynistic but I don't really see it hating on women just the prince wanting the best for him and his kingdom, which is just having standard, nothing wrong with someone wanting a capable queen and beautiful too.
Sure, he was willing to use a love potion to make her fall in love with him but he didn't!
I'm sorry if you didn't like it or think otherwise but in my opinion you need a bit more critical analysis and less ideology.
The illustrations were beautiful but the story lacked character. It was misogynistic and could be misleading if told to children creating a point of view that 'What seems to be beautiful is always good' which can be quite wrong in my opinion. I did not love how it gave prominent importance to physical beauty. The king never asked for a kind, loving generous princess. He wished for a princess who did not lack attraction, who could be possibly evil.
it's actually an enjoyable fairytale for kids! but that's it. the prince that wished for a perfect girl, and boom, it happened! although he tricked by the fortune teller, but it rrally happened. and they lived happily ever and after.
Title: Wishing for a Princess Author: Alessio Sgrò Format: Kindle (Free)
[ Enjoyed ] Yes and no. [ Last Read ] About a month ago. [ Reread ] No thanks.
[ Cover Lust ] A little. [ Intriguing Title ] No. [ Interesting Premise/Plot ] No. [ Preview Impressions ] Fairy tale feeling.
[ Kept My Attention ] Not really. [ Got Bored / Mind Wandering ] Yes. [ Skimmed/Skipped Scenes/Chapters ] Yes. [ Reread Past Scenes For Fun ] No. [ Reread Past Scenes Cause My Memory Sucks To Clear Confusion ] No.
[ Stayed Up Late ] No. [ Took a Long Break Midway ] No. [ Ending Left Me Feeling ] Wow that's a horrible ending.
Other thoughts I'm throwing in: Memory of the story is hazy, but I remember being disappointed at the ending. It was not what I would have expected for a fairy tale aimed at children. (You know, with a moral or message to be taught?) Before that part though, I found the story enjoyable.
