Okay, so I made it about 2/3 of the way through this book in an attempt to learn more about photography and relearn what I already leanred in high school. It is very technical and reads kind of like an encyclopedia so if it's just information you're looking for . . .go for it, otherwise, I'm pretty sure there are better books on digital photography out there.
Even though it may be a bit dated, this is still one of the best introductions to the various knowledge pieces of photography, readily applicable regardless of how the technology has changed. Perfect for learning the language, understanding the concepts, and mastering the equipment that lead to the enjoyment of photography and the creation of great images.
The author states that photography is NOT merely recreating what you see with your eyes. If that is what you try to do you will often be frustrated. Instead, photography is your interpretation and creative expression of the scene. This is a new thought for me and I really like it.
After looking over various how-to books, I'd say this is one of the better ones. It goes over a great many subjects in detail, and is a good starter for someone who is serious about learning photography.
The reason for the low rating for this book is that I probably needed something much more elementary! LOL But, I did learn a few things and look forward to reading other books on this subject.
