Thank you to the author for a copy of this book.

What do you mean the carpet in Las Vegas manifests into a powerful cryptid who sets his sights on the heir of a textile company? What do you mean he stalks her across the country through the patterns in the world? What do you mean his skin shows patterns like a cuttlefish when he's enjoying himself??? This was a fun short entry in the Carnal Cryptids universe, I had a great time following Phi as he comes into his power and finds Lari.

For me, any book by Vera Valentine is a very firm, yes, please! But Pattern Recognition was something else completely. I was going in with preconceived notions that this was a standard sentient object smut novel with hilarity and a female character whose brain was driven by her hormones. Nope! This story had depth, and I was swept up in the golden retriever main male character and his worship of the female main character. With just 65 pages, we have a map of an otherworldly individual who is a god in his own right, falls for a carpet saleswoman (and no, that’s not a euphemism for something else) who loves chameleons and patterns. This erotic novella left me excited to pick up the next book in the series, A Carnal Cryptids, to learn what happens next. Don’t sweep this book under the rug! It was a cute standalone story that can be finished in an hour and leaves you panting.
