Trapped in the dark fortress of Dragyera, Eira is isolated from her soulmates and battling her raging darkness. While she and Daru work with Nyx’s aunt to uncover the truth of Eira’s past, Nyx is imprisoned in the dungeons, tortured and used as bait to lure the Queen of Light into the shadows.
Meanwhile, Hadwin, Ulf, Astira, Liv, Athena, Hauke, and Odin escape to Sayfters, taking refuge with a group of powerful healers. They craft a plan to uncover the true intentions of the Council and their involvement with the Sairn and their ruler in Cudhellen.
But Athena’s spirit is still lost and wandering after succumbing to her darkest thoughts, and Hadwin refuses to leave her side while she lies unconscious and vulnerable. Astira and Liv are still acclimating to their dizzying new reality. Between broody, alluring males, lingering trauma, and unstable new maji, they are only sure of They weren’t the last of their friends to escape the Tunnels, and they won’t rest until Lyk and Ruse have been freed, and they’ve reunited with Eira.
In hell on Earth, Lyk knows that if she wants to escape the Tunnels with Ruse and find her twin, she must trust her inner voices and cling to the darkness that gives her strength.
Each lifetime brings Eira and her soul bonds closer to the truth, but what happens when the truth is the path to destruction itself? Will Eira’s soulmates find her before she loses herself entirely to her darkness, or are they fated to repeat history?

Blood for Light by Carliann Jean is Book 3 in The Soul Bound Realms series, for me life has been lifing, SO hard right now, so as much as i really wanted to book 1 & book 2 before jumping into book 3. I really just didnt have the time. Although I was informed it was okay to start at book 3 due to it all being recapped upon at the start.
But for me and my personal experience. Its a 4 star, I loved the story but felt disconnected (through my own faults of life lifing lol), I feel for me and my experience with it. The first two books are definitely needed tk be read prior - this is just a me thing. And I mean it as no offence to the author. Im such a visual reader to be honest.
This is classed as High Fantasy / Urban Fantasy & I really am here for it! It has awesome emotional depth to the incredibly firey fierce FMC, with 1000% feminine rage (totally love it), and it is really in depth on the storyline. Hense why for me i feel I needed to really read book 1 and 2 first. (I will 1000% be reading this whole series from start to finish to get the full story in full context).
I liked how the fmc has a real life job as a therapist in a Fantasy story, it really entwined irl with Fantasy, and how it uniquely ties throughout the story as it unfolds, and the cross time relationships was a thing aside from 1 other book i have been read about before.
Amongst all that, the covers for the series as a whole are amazing!!
Blood for light is releasing today and is book three in a fantasy/romantasy series which has both urban and high fantasy elements. If you love a fierce FMC with emotional depth and strength then this series is right for you. Feminine rage and deep storylines and you will dive deep into this story. I loved that the fmc was a therapist and how that ties into the story and the unique way that this story unfolds. I love the cross time relationships and the tension and things that are revealed. Not only are these covers beautiful but the story is too.
Oh I had SUCH a great time with Blood for Light. And yes, I know this is book 3, but life was life-ing, I was short on time, and after the author assured me I’d be okay jumping in here because of the recap at the beginning. I trusted the process and honestly? She was absolutely right.
The recap did such a great job grounding me that I never felt lost, which honestly impressed me so much in a third book. I was able to dive right in, connect with the characters, and get completely invested in the story without feeling like I was missing huge pieces.
And WOW this book. Emotional, intense, addictive, and packed with characters I immediately cared about. The themes explored here had so much depth, and I found myself completely hooked.
That said… now I absolutely wish I had read the first two first, not because I needed to in order to enjoy this, but because I loved this world and these characters so much that I wish I’d had even more time with them.
Carliann Jean is officially an autobuy author for me, and I will 1000% be going back for the earlier books while impatiently waiting for what she writes next!
Fair warning, I jumped into this series at book three! If I had started with book one, I think this would have absolutely been a five star read. I love how much care and consideration the author put into individual book recaps, character details (including physical descriptions, magics and life status) and world explanation to help support anyone jumping in part-way into the series. However, I don't really think that that can truly cover the complex histories, relationship development and emotional struggles the characters went through in previous books in the series.
There are so many unique and interesting point of views, rich back stories, scenes reminiscing on heavy traumatic events that happened, and comments on existing bonds and relationships that I really did myself a disservice stepping into the series this far in, as I was left with a disconnect from characters I didn't truly know. So if you're thinking of jumping to book three, hold your horses and start with book one!
Overall, I absolutely loved the overarching therapy theme with needing to heal personal traumas, relationship barriers, and other issues that cause harm with their souls, healing, and bonds. It was such a great way to tangibly put into words how much holding onto hurts can bleed into every part of your life, but done in a way that felt more magical and healing than just putting every character into therapy.
The writing was also absolutely wonderful. Despite feeling like an interloper in a world I didn't know, the author was able to toss me into tangible scenes I could see and feel, with characters with differing motivations and interests - that despite many POV's - it was still easy enough to keep them separate.
If this is a series you're interested in, definitely start at book one! I'm going to eventually go back and do the same so I can catch up on the rest of the development I missed out on.

I was sent a complimentary advanced reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Blood for Light is the kind of book that reminds me why I love fantasy romance in the first place.
I’ll be honest—I jumped into this series late, and while Carliann Jean does an incredible job helping readers find their footing, this book made me wish I’d started from page one. Not because I was lost, but because I wanted more of these characters, their history, and the emotional weight behind every decision.
This book is dark, intense, and unapologetically emotional. Everyone is carrying trauma, grief, guilt, or rage, and watching those wounds shape their choices felt incredibly powerful. The themes of healing, identity, and finding strength in your darkest moments run through every chapter.
Eira’s journey completely captivated me. She’s broken, powerful, vulnerable, and terrifying all at once. The soul-bond dynamics, the emotional tension, and the constant push and pull between light and darkness had me hooked from beginning to end.
The world continues to expand in fascinating ways, and despite the multiple POVs, I never felt overwhelmed. Every perspective added something meaningful to the story, making the stakes feel larger and more personal at the same time.
And can we talk about the emotional damage? Because this book serves it in abundance. There were moments of hope, heartbreak, betrayal, rage, and love that left me completely invested in what happens next.
If you love: ✨ Fated soulmates ✨ Morally grey characters ✨ Powerful heroines ✨ Trauma and healing arcs ✨ Unique magic systems ✨ Multiple POV fantasy romance ✨ Emotional devastation with a side of hope
then this series deserves a spot on your TBR.
Carliann Jean has officially become an author I’ll be watching closely because now I need to know what happens next.
Blood for Light by Carliann Jean is just as good as the first 2 books and I can’t wait to see where this series takes us next!
First of all, Carliann includes a pretty detailed summary in the beginning of the book. Now, I read these books back to back so I didn’t need it this read, but I also have the memory of a goldfish so I definitely appreciate this. I hope to see her continue that in future books! Also, the cover is absolutely gorgeous!
These characters are some of my favorites. I know Eira and her soulmates are technically the main characters, but it doesn’t feel that way. I mean that in a good way. Every couple, every character gets their own well developed story. It’s honestly mystifying to me that Carliann fit so much into this book and none of it felt rushed.
The mental health representation is still at the forefront of this book. As is the message of the importance of having a support system in your life. Which I completely appreciate! BUT the spice in this book? It’s nice and spicy! More than that though it feels organic in the story.
Needless to say I really enjoyed this book and series. Every book has expanded our world, our characters, and increased in intensity. I can’t wait to see what comes next for these characters. I NEED to know the health of a certain character!
🦊 The “side” characters feel just as important as the main characters. 🐺 Mental health rep is still the number one priority. 🐍 The spice is spicy! 🐦 Things just keep amping up each book!
I am completely blown away by "Blood for Light" by Carliann Jean! If you love high-stakes fantasy filled with complex magic systems, deeply emotional character arcs, and a touch of broody romance, you need to pick this up immediately. From the very first line—"You can’t burn away a goddess who breathes fire"—I was completely hooked. Carliann Jean weaves a breathtakingly tense story that splits our favorite characters across perilous landscapes, keeping you on the edge of your seat the entire time. The contrast between the dark fortress of Dragyera and the refuge of Sayfters is beautifully done. The atmosphere is thick with tension, lingering trauma, and a sense of impending doom that makes it impossible to put down. Whether we are following Eira battling her inner darkness, agonizing over Nyx being tortured in the dungeons, or holding our breath for Lyk and Ruse to escape the Tunnels, every single storyline feels vital and utterly gripping.i could not put this book down especially after reading the first two books but The relationships in this book are unmatched. Hadwin refusing to leave Athena’s side while her spirit wanders is absolutely heartbreakingly beautiful. Plus, the dynamic of "broody, alluring males" and unstable new maji gives you the perfect blend of angst and chemistry.and thank you to Beth of wings and words and the lovely author for the amazing opportunity to read this amazing story that you both 🤓
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 (rounded up for rating) Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
Blood for Light hit the ground running and did not stop! We have our soul-bonded group desperately trying to recover the information necessary to save all the realms from the evil attempting to destroy everything in its path…and it isn’t easy! With friends and lovers split up across different realms, all are ready to tear apart anything and everything in their way to get back to one another, combatting the past repeating itself, and trying to heal so that they can fully come into their powers to make that happen. Every. Single. Character. Is. Hurting. The emotional toll is significant because the intensity with which each character is trying to heal and accept the darkness within is high. You can’t help but feel attached to Eira and her friends, and turn the pages to see if they’ll be reunited and whole if that happens…

If you enjoy rich world-building, a high stakes plot, and emotionally-driven storylines focused on trauma and healing, give this series a try!
Blood for Light is not a light read, but it is an intense continuation of The Soul Bound Realms series. This book leans all the way into trauma, magic, soul bonds, darkness, healing, and survival. Eira’s journey as the Queen of Light continues to be complicated in the best way because her light is not presented as soft or perfect. Her darkness is part of her power too.
I really enjoyed how much bigger the world felt in this one. There are multiple POVs, several emotional bonds, and a lot of moving pieces, so this is definitely a book for readers who like layered fantasy and don’t mind being thrown into pain, war, romance, lore, and emotional damage all at once.
Lyk’s storyline was brutal and heartbreaking, while the other relationships and soul connections brought their own kind of intensity. The book is dark, bloody, romantic, and heavy, but it also keeps coming back to healing, chosen family, and what it means to take back what was stolen from you.
Please check the content warnings because this one is very dark. But if you enjoy dark romantasy with soulmates, found family, magical realms, trauma recovery, morally messy characters, and a whole lot of chaos, this was a strong and emotional read.
I absolutely loved this fantasy romance! Even though I jumped into the series at book three, the author assured me I wouldn’t struggle to follow the story and she was absolutely right.
The recap at the beginning was incredibly helpful, informing me on the events of books one and two while reintroducing the characters and where their journeys had left off. It made diving into this installment feel effortless.
The pacing was one of my favourite aspects of the book. There was always something happening, whether it was emotional character moments, shocking revelations or action-packed scenes so I never found myself losing interest. The story balances character development with plot progression beautifully, making it an engaging read from the very beginning to the end.
If you’re a fan of:
- Morally grey characters - Unique magic systems - Mental health and trauma rep - Plot twists - Powerful heroines - Multi pov - Trauma and healing arcs - Heartbreak and betrayal - High stakes plot
…then this book is definitely one to add to your TBR. It delivers an emotional and immersive fantasy experience that kept me invested throughout and I’m excited to go back and read the first two books so I can trulyappreciate the full journey even more.
Carliann Jean has done it again! Blood for Light is a breathtaking and unforgettable. The author has an unparalleled ability to weave high-stakes, action-packed fantasy with raw, deeply resonant emotional storytelling. What sets this book apart is how beautifully it handles complex themes of trauma, healing, and resilience. Watching Eira battle her inner darkness while isolated in Dragyera was gut-wrenching, and the parallel journeys of the rest of the circle kept me completely glued to the pages. The characters are incredibly complex, the world-building is rich without ever feeling heavy or bogged down, and the romantic elements feel like a warm, hard-earned hug amidst the chaos. I also deeply appreciated the recap and character guide at the beginning—it made diving back into this massive, 600+ page world completely seamless. If you love character-driven romantasy filled with high stakes, fierce soul bonds, and powerful mental health representation, you absolutely need to read this series. I couldn't put it down!

This ebook was dark and devastating !!
Eria’s story really touched me I felt I was fighting through the darkness with her!
And the soulmate dynamic was perfection !
The recap in this books so done so well I never felt confused which is what i sometimes struggle with when it comes to fantasy.
And did I mention the spice 🌶️🌶️ perfect and it will kept me on my toes
Coming across carliann jean was one of the best decisions and I’m so enjoying being apart of her permanent street team!
Oh my goodness I do not know where to start. This book is beyond words. The way Carliann Jean provides so many topics and viewpoints is amazing. She touches on triggering and hard to hear topics but it’s in the most tasteful and imaginative way possible. This is not my regular read but oh my will I be waiting for the 4th book to release. I am so grateful for being selected for the arc reader team. I am yet to read the first 2 books in the series but honestly this book has the ability and such a way with words (plus the recaps at the start helped a lot) that just makes me crave more. Love the work, goodreads wouldn’t let me give a 4.5 so I’m so sad to give a 4. Carliann deserves the world and more!!! Add this to your TBR list immediately💕
Blood For Light was a good book. It was a great continuation of the series. I thought the story was good and the concept was solid. It's another lovely cover and matches it's predecessors really well. The colours are great and it's light. The writing is fantastic and the story flows well. Carliann is such a wonderful rep for mental health and disability. It really comes through in her work. She writes about both with such care and sensitivity. The setting is good and the continued world-building is excellent. Carliann does this flawlessly. The characters are fantastic and it's great seeing their story continue. I do love Nyx. He's probably my favourite! I definitely recommend this book and the series.
I loved Blood for Light! This series continues to stand out to me because of how well it balances fantasy, emotional depth, and real care when handling heavier themes. The world-building stays rich and immersive, the characters feel layered and real, and the story has so much heart.
What I keep appreciating most about these books is how they explore trauma, healing, and connection without losing the magic and momentum of the story. This was another 5-star read for me, and I think it’s such a strong continuation of the series.
I jumped right into book 3 of this series and the author did an amazing job of laying out who the characters were and how we got to the starting point of the book. It was a little confusing for me since I started with book 3 and I think that reading the first two books would have helped me and made it a 5 star read! I really appreciated having a guide for not just the characters but also for the words created for the story! There are some pretty dark themes but I think it’s topics that should be covered in books!
I have said this before and I will say it again, Carliann Jean’s books feel like receiving a warm smutty hug. The way she writes her books are like receiving a therapy session, but in a epic Romantasy book form. Blood for light is full of memorable quotes that give the reader a chance to meditate on their existence. The characters are complex, the plot is intriguing, while still discussing triggering topics that affect human kind all over the world.
Carliann has this ability to blend action with emotional storytelling so seamlessly. Blood for Light was such an impressive and engaging read that continued, like the first two in the series, to touch on hard topics while not being triggering or distasteful. Fans of character driven fantasy and emotional drama will absolutely find this book unforgettable. Thank you so much Carliann for allowing me to read this eARC! I had such a good time binge reading all 3 of the books in this series!! 🖤
I ran out of time to read books 1 &2, but was happy to find the recap of characters and books in the beginning of Blood for Light. I was able to move forward with the read and not be completely lost.
Blood for Light is a character driven fantasy with a lot of world building without weighing the story down. It addresses many hard topics in a tasteful way. Exploring both trauma and healing while being an action and emotion filled storyline. I'm looking forward to continuing the story.
This book was a good read. I liked the mix of fantasy, action, and emotional themes like trauma and healing. The characters were interesting and the story had a lot of emotional moments that kept me invested. I also appreciated that the world-building didn’t feel too overwhelming, and the writing made it easy to stay engaged with the story. The emotional parts of the story were really well done, and I’m definitely interested to see what happens next in the series.
Thank you so much Carliann for letting me be a part of your team.❤️🌺
Loved this so much. I fell for the world building. It was done in such an amazing way. The description was so vivid. I loved being able to see it play out in my mind. Like I was actually there. The characters were done perfectly. A well written story that pulled m not in and kept me invested. And that spice…everything was perfectly balanced ands made this story so captivating. Loved this from start to finish.
I felt all kinds of emotions while reading. The story captivated me from its emotional aspects and addictive plot. I loved the character's back stories and significant themes that revolved around them. Adding on to that, the worldbuilding was chef's kiss! Moreover, I truly loved all the tropes and aesthetics this book gave off from romantasy, dark dystopian, strong fmc, and much more. I especially loved the raw storytelling that hit me hard in the feels.
My jaw is on the floor. I was so incredibly lucky to get an early copy of this, and I am speechless with how amazing this was.
Getting to see each characters POV and how they all learnt and linked up was so perfect. Every single character has such a heartbreaking yet somehow relatable story, whether it be through how they've been treated or they've treated themselves.
I can't wait to see where all their stories go next, especially Eiras.
While this is the third book in the series it is truly spectacular! I will be going back and reading the first two books as I missed the book 3 part. HOWEVER, you don’t feel like you missed out or are confused if you just jump in. This book will catch you up, immerse you and then when it’s done you will wish it wasn’t!
✨review of ARC reader✨ This series is the mental health rep we all want! the adventure and deep world building that Carliann takes you on is unmatched and the heavy but powerful story you experience from so many different characters is unbelievable. ♥️♥️
The author was very knowledgeable and defintely passionate about this book. I will give her that.
There are trigger warnings - but this book wasn't for me. There were to many characters running around - in different timelines - with different names - and I couldn't keep up at all with it.
Omg let me tell you!!!!! I absolutely cannot wait for book 4 to come out! I honestly couldn’t put this book down! The entire series is just Chefs Kiss!!!
