Nun More Deadly: Forgiveness Is Overrated

Rate this book
Silent. Righteous. Absolutely done with everybody’s nonsense.

When disgraced nun Mary Mercy is pulled back into the Vatican’s shadow war, she must face a deadly coalition of assassin monks—Buddhist, Catholic, and questionably flexible. Armed with rosary nunchucks, questionable gadgets, and an unshakeable vow of silence, she battles her way through rave monasteries, zero-gravity tea duels, and a hijacked cathedral teetering on metaphysical collapse.

This is a holy war with slapstick physics.
This is devotion with body-count potential.
This is Nun More Deadly.

A martial-arts comedy where every punch is blessed, and every miracle is probably an accident.

Did Not Finish

Yeah … nah. DNF'ing at 27%. I tried my best, I really did. I mean, according to the cover there's a goat involved in the action at some point — I didn't actually make it far enough to find out — and there's nothing I love more than a random goat thrown into my literature. It's well-written (which was honestly a surprise considering the campy plot line) and I'm sure lots of people will love the absurd humor, but I was bored out of my mind by the time I hit page three. Apparently deadly nuns just aren't really my thing? 🤷🏻‍♀️

4.5 rounded

This book was completely ridiculous... and I mean that as a compliment. I went in expecting a weird premise, but I wasn't expecting to have this much fun. The cover 100% grabbed my attention, then the title. This was funny and over-the-top. It had me laughing and smiling throughout. Also, please let me forever believe that the Vatican does indeed have an underground tactical wing with bad-a nuns....

This definitely isn't the book to pick up if you're looking for a serious fantasy. But if you're in the mood for something that fully embraces the chaos and just wants to entertain you, it's worth checking out. It's perfect for a palate cleanser in both length and entertainment.

Nun More Deadly: Forgiveness Is Overrated is the first book in a completely silly, over the top, unhinged, farcical romp by Dominicka Kane. Book 1, Nun More Deadly is 158 pages, released 15th March 2026, and is available in paperback and ebook formats. All 12 books currently extant in the series released the same day. The series is available in a collected format with over 2100 pages. This book is currently available from retailers free as an ebook.

It's the first book in a 12 book series, featuring a warrior nun (Sister Mary Mercy), doing the Lord's work, fighting dastards robbing elderly ladies on cross-town busses (and threatening their emotional support ferrets), dispatching evil monks in the Vatican, and generally living her best religious life.

There are some flags. All 2100 pages released the same day, from a clearly pseudonymous author without an online presence. A casual search reveals no other works, no other publisher associations, and no reader/fan engagement. Is it AI? Possibly.

It is a constant careening silly romp. It's violent, but not offensively so. It's definitely irreverent and unashamedly lampoons religious observance and religious life. It's juvenile, and the author passes no opportunity to go for the low-hanging pratfall, sight gag, and sophomoric jokes.

Four stars, with the fervent hope that it's NOT simply AI content. It's pretty funny, and bears a lot of similarities to the National Lampoon's parody works. With the amount of content available, it could make for a good binge/buddy read (book 1 is available gratis).

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I am still laughing.

A disgraced nun, Mary Mercy, vow of silence intact, is suddenly back in the Vatican, and defending her faith is a shadow war against Buddhist and Catholic assassin monks. Armed with her rosary nunchucks and backed up by a team consisting of other nuns and a priest inventor with questionably effective gadgets, Mercy goes to war.
I loved these wonderfully funny characters; they are so entertaining that I couldn't put this book down. This is a martial arts comedy with plenty of violence, but no deaths, outer space duels, a monastery that is turned into a rave venue, and a final battle that takes place in a cathedral about to collapse. This book kept me guffawing form the first page to the last. I recommend this hysterically funny, irreverent, satirical comedic fantasy to any reader looking for a laugh.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC provided by Hidden Gems.

ARC provided from NetGalley, reviewed voluntarily.

Off the bat I was assaulted with simile after simile, wink wink nudge nudge "hey did you know this involves nuns" jokes, and so many quick cuts to point out what some other character is doing that isn't important to the moment. Yeah I know the last one can be great when done well, or even done good, I was not given this luxury.

Seriously, it felt like every paragraph had some form of
"Not in something, but in something else"
"They did this thing, like some other thing (enter some weird description like a "seasoned leather ham")

I saw another Goodreads reviewer mention that this was AI, it may be, the cover art at least gives the impression. Also, I checked the Lexicon Labs Publishing and their site is full of AI stuff and AI books on History, Science, and coding. So you know, smells like a duck and all that.

All I wanted was some fun schlock and I didn't find it here. I am glad to be off this ride.

Hilarious, full of Nuns, and fight scenes.

The opening scene had me hooked. It's a hilarious ride from there. I feel like anything I say about this book is just going to give away the plot and the fun discoveries along the way.

But there are a lot of unique characters, an interesting plot, and hilarious dialogue. Soo many fun phrases you can really only use in a book like this. It's exactly what I was expecting from the cover, and also much more.

You'll enjoy this read if you enjoy hilarious, light hearted books that don't take themselves seriously.

Thank you to Hidden Gems for a copy of this read.

AI bullshit, took me two hours to realize. I was checking to make sure that this wasn't a book that falls later in a series, realized there were 12 books, and the first one was on NetGalley, I knew this one came out in March 2026, so how quickly did the other 11 come out?? Literally all came out the same day. Start looking into the author, can really only find her on Goodreads and Amazon, and that's when it all started to fall into place.

I'm annoyed.

A pulp grit, humerous delight. I had so much fun reading this! It gave me Good Omens vibes and I couldn't stop laughing at the antics our motley crew got up to. I will definitely continue this series!

I loved reading this book. It was different from what I'm used to reading. I loved that it was action filled between the nuns and monks. I would recommend anyone to read this book. I liked the details that the author wrote about the church and the cathedrals also.

This was one of the most entertaining and interesting reads I have done this year. What a wild ride of vibes and religious shenanigans.
