The Inspired Landscape explores the creative process of outstanding landscape architects through their most celebrated projects. Susan Cohen, the founder and director of the acclaimed Landscape Design Portfolio Series at New York Botanical Garden, illustrates the creative path taken by landscape architects like Mikyoung Kim, whose design for the Crown Sky Garden in Chicago was inspired by the interplay of music and nature. And Cornelia Oberlander, whose vision for the form of a Vancouver green roof was drawn from a Karl Blossfeld photograph of a gently undulating orchid leaf. With original sketches, plans, and photographs, this book is an extraordinary journey through the creative process.
So interesting to learn of these landscape architects ideas & creative process. The research done into an area that helps each arrive at a "eureka" moment of how to proceed. So many unique projects including the one done at the Southwest Housing area on the campus of the University of Massachusetts. I can attest this area was a concrete blight. To incorporate ideas, forms from the very near Connecticut River and it's oxbows, etc. Brilliant! Appreciated all the initial drawings, concepts, evolution. Found a couple ideas that am going to incorporate into my own gardens. Thanks to all the architects for sharing and to Susan Cohen for putting together in such an enjoyable way.
The cover photo on the Goodreads is not the same as the book. The real one is much nicer. :) Wonderful book concept! Both text and pictures are good and in the right amount and balance. I especially enjoyed reading the last piece- works and design thoughts by Yu Kongjian whose work gave me lots of inspirations in the past. The suggested reading list at the end of the book is very interesting too.
