LAPD Detective Kate Sexton and her canine partner Bernie are back, along with hard-headed FBI agent Joe Dawson, in Hollywood Intrigue, the ninth book in the Hollywood Alphabet Series Thrillers.
It’s a new year and a new start for Detective Kate Sexton. Kate’s just moved into new digs, she’s adjusting to life in LAPD’s elite homicide unit, Section One, and she’s moved on from her past relationship troubles. But all that suddenly changes when Kate and her partner, Ted Grady, get called to the scene of one of the most horrifying homicides they’ve ever worked. What follows is a string of killings that’s bizarre, even by Hollywood standards. As they work the crime scenes and chase after a killer called The Prophet, Kate realizes he's taken a personal interest in her.
Throw in Kate’s meddling best friends and private investigators, Natalie and Mo, and a hard-boiled, trash talking FBI agent she’s worked with before named Joe Dawson, and you’ve got all the ingredients for another wild and crazy ride through the streets of Hollywood.
Hollywood Intrigue is another exhilarating installment in the Hollywood Alphabet Series, which can be read and enjoyed in any order. Other books in the series include: Hollywood Assassin, Hollywood Blood, Hollywood Crazy, Hollywood Dirty, Hollywood Enemy, Hollywood Forbidden, Hollywood Games, Hollywood Homicide, and, coming soon, Hollywood Jury.
M.Z. "Mack" Kelly, spent over thirty years in the field of law enforcement. He often draws on his experience working with gangs, violent offenders, and the court system in writing his books. He currently lives in Southern California, not too far from the streets of Hollywood that he writes about!
Det Kate Sexton & partner Ted are called to a homicide found in a canyon cave. The young victim is posed, washed, and buzzing. There are no other crimes like this in the VICAP database or so they thought and soon FBI Agent Joe Dawson arrives on the scene to inform them there will be a taskforce of the alphabet soup of agencies, including profilers, analysts etc.
Kate's PI friends Natalie & Mo offer some comic relief and also tid-bits they learn from the "street".
Seems there's a Prophet, an Apostle and lower level sex offenders all helping in this crime. The head or Prophet is not who you would expect.
Kate and Bernie are drawn into the investigation of a strange serial killer, who poses his victims in death with a special surprise inside them. The case expands in scope as the FBI joins a task fore to identify the killer. Kate's old antagonist from the FBI, Joe Dawson,, becomes a part of the action, causing Kate a bit of consternation. All the characters are quits interesting and well described, including Kate's weird neighbors who moonlight as PIs and daylight in a proposed zombie serial. The combination of fun and terror makes for most interesting reading.
Love Love. Surprised by ending. Looking forward to the next one. I would recommend this series. I think Kate is great and would like to meet her and Mo and
Natalie. and the pooch. What unconditional love. when Kate finds that one true love, sparks will fly. Again keep up the great work.
With every book in this series, you learn little pieces about the characters. Section and Dawson work well together, and you hope they work on more cases together. My only complaint is I wish the K-9 figured into the investigation more rather than being handed off to other officers and friends to watch.
This one is one of my favorites in the series. Too bad these books can't function as stand-alones. You really have to read them in order to appreciate the progression of the characters. Love those silly girlfriends of Kate's! I also like that the author brings conclusion to the story, but you can see the potential for more to tell without feeling like you've been left with a cliffhanger.
Mr. Kelly continues to amaze, delight and provide stories of the dark side of humanity with humor and believable plot lines. Every time I read one of his books I think, 'this is the best' then I read the next one and find that each one is 'the best!'
Kate and Section One are looking for the killer of a young girl. The FBI lets them know that they have a case just like the one they are working on. Kate and some members of Section One are sent to work with the FBI. In the mean time more girls are being killed
Once again I was held captive until the end. I’ve read all Sue Grafton’s books about P.I. Kinsey Milton and I might just have found a new series to follow.
Great characters almost take a front seat in several homicides. A special unit go after bizarre group of killers that's headed by the Prophet. Jump in.
This wonderful book, just WOW! It tied in some key factors from one of the books early in the series and has set up the scenario for wonderful, cannot put down reading coming up. This can be read as part of the series or a stand alone. Either way if you want a book that will have you on the edge of your seat then this is the novel for you.
'Hollywood Intrigue' was just that, intriguing. I did not expect the way things turned out. The story line was well written and the way it played out was incredible. I don't know how to explain my thoughts without giving anything away, but I knew there was someone close to the ask force that was in on it, I just didn't expect the outcome to shock me like it did. Kate is still awesome. I love how she pretty much goes with the flow. Her life has not been easy and she has definitely persevered. Dawson is always a great character. Brazen, says-it-how-it-is type and never backs down. I enjoy the dynamic between Kate and Dawson. What a ride. Mo and Natalie are still an epic duo that leave me laughing my butt off. Lexy is such s strong young woman who has a life of challenges ahead of her due to the horrors she's endured. I look forward to reading more of 'A Hollywood Alphabet Series'. A must add to your tbr list.
MZ KELLY HAS DONE IT AGAIN! These old familiar characters and fantastic plots just keep getting better and better! If you haven't read A Hollywood Alphabet Series it is time to start now! These books are all unbelievable! Sincerely, Diane Galburt
I have read the entire series in less than a month. I honestly didn't care much for the previous 2 titles for a few reasons but this one redeemed that and I very much enjoyed it. I look forward to the next book in the series hopefully out soon.
Our heroine, Kate, has her hands and mind full this go around. The Prophet is killing young girls and it's getting personal with Kate. We still have lots of humor and friendship that lightens a sometimes dark story.
The stories flow together seamlessly. After the first book I was hooked. A good series won't let you stop reading until the last book. This fits that perfectly.
Evil loses. A plot with many turns and surprises. Keeps you wondering what will result from the investigation next. Bernie needs a bigger part in the drama.
The main character is Kate Sexton and she has a faithful sidekick, Bernie. I enjoy the storyline the author brings to each of the books in the series. Keep them coming.
