Here, the mysterious disappearances that have been plaguing Gaelland get personal. The reader discovers a bit more of what's actually going on, but the depths of the depravity and the extent of the betrayals are not yet fully clear...
Anxiety-ridden Bridgit gets a chance to rise to the occasion (and does, perhaps a bit too easily.)
'Ninjas' are spotted...
Nautical action abounds...
Swordplay, too...
Not to mention evil magic...
This is shaping up to be less 'deep' than I hoped, but it's still good fun, and I haven't had any problems with it at all.
This 'episode' ends on a cliffhanger, so I'll be moving right along to the next.

Review: Just not getting into these serialized novellas, structured around scene compression and filled out with dialogue. The story-line never really forms into a sense of progression. For example, Fallon’s village is raided and through a weird stilted progression we arrive back at the Crown Prince’s abode where they are planning the capture of the children snatchers. Then back to Fallon and the Duchess demanding he stay and nursemaid refugees. Then back on a ship where his spit and vinegar wife is getting food concessions for the captured.
I guess all will be revealed in successive novellas, and that is the plan. To capture the readers interest in hopes of buying all the reveals. Definitely a planned marketing approach with the novellas crafted to fit. What was an initially intriguing story line is now getting tiresome.

Well, I can definitely say each episode gets better, possessing the ability to hook the reader more and ensure their continued interest remains with them. The pace and plot has more force here and it almost seems to run away with itself in parts, though sometimes the constant flicking to different perspectives can be a little fragmentary and disjointed. There needs to be a little more balance with this as it feels like we are just getting into one person's perspective, then it moves swiftly to another and the timescale has been moved too, so it is not always clear if it is the same time, or it has gone back again. This does need a little more care in my opinion.
That said, it retains an enjoyment factor and there is no chance of being put off persevering to find out what happens in the next installment. In this episode one of the background characters has come to the fore and is given much more page space, which is good as it has felt like a male-dominated novel thus far, and the introduction of a female, who has just woken up from her nightmare trance-like state and found an inner strength to fight back, is just the tonic this story needs at this juncture.
There are some elements of predictability evident, but it is forgivable to ignore these and just enjoy the merits of the tale as it unfolds. It seems quite clear to me where this is headed, but it is an pleasurable journey to that destination and so I approach episode 4 of the saga...

This is the third episode in the series and I am really enjoying it. The pace has picked up and this episode leaves you with a massive whodunnit, the characters are really coming in to their own now, I wasn't a fan of Bridget in the first two parts but in this third one, the author has given her a voice for me. I have just started the fourth installement and am so eager to see how the book will end! I am really pleased that I was given the opportunity by the publishers to review this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
