Martin Pistorius, who lost all his memories after a childhood illness, tells the story of his miraculous reawakening in his memoir, Ghost Boy.

Martin was a sweet, but shy boy. He was a wizard with computers and electronics. He loved his Legos and his dog, Pookie. Martin learned from overheard conversations that his illness began when he came home from school with a sore throat. His condition rapidly deteriorated and he soon could not walk. Within a year, he was in a hospital, not moving or communicating. His muscles deteriorated, causing his hands and feet to curl up. Doctors first suspected a psychological cause. I was totally overwhelmed by Martin's story, and at the same time overjoyed by his perseverance! This man, from the time he was a teen, was abused in unthinkable ways by his caretakers in different facilities, while unable to talk, or move any parts of his body! I realize that there are sick people out there, but this went far beyond the limit! I honestly don't know how he survived, and his story is incredible! This book is heart-wrenching, and heart-warning all at the same time! I felt his inner pain with each page! God bless you, Martin, and I am thrilled that you finally found happiness! I wish that you had explained more about how this happened to you, but perhaps, that would have been too painful! You are a champion in my book, and I would be proud to call you my son!

Outstanding "feel good" book by the end. In the beginning and middle, it's a wrenching account of this incredible person's struggle to communicate with a world that thought him deaf and dumb and more like a potted plant. A powerful tribute to the power of human determination and to the amazing paths to love.
