Jen’s being wooed by Bill, the reality TV star of You Tell Me. Contestants make life decisions based on the votes of the audience. Can Jen bring herself to turn down not only Bill but also millions of viewers?
This book is a collection of curious things: a novella, short stories, poems, lists, swear words. The things in this book are sometimes funny, sometimes sad, sometimes both.
Lynn Beighley is the author of dozens of tech books and even more articles. She's had lots of her short stories published in lots of places. She's an editor for Manning Publications and she's currently writing a YA novel that she hopes will encourage girls to try a bit of computer programming. She got an MFA a few years back. She's on twitter as @lynnbeighley and would enjoy hearing from you.
There is something for everyone's likes with the varied contents. I liked the poems and another person liked the short stories. Writers will enjoy "10 Fresh New Ideas for Literary Journal Editors" and "Tweets From an Agent of Dubious Discernment", both of which had me laughing out loud. After a very cold and seemingly endless winter of 2014-2015, I appreciated the reflection on cold and warmth in "There's No You Without What's Around You". Making me really think was how the plots tied together of the movie titles within "It's Wonderful Life (A Life in Movie Titles)" and how that concept could be done with song titles, book titles, and even cliches and food recipe titles. As you can tell, I enjoyed this book even with admitting I didn't read fully every selection if it didn't seem interesting to me, but it will to someone else. I'm glad I got a copy to review from Goodreads First Reads.
I found this to be an interesting read. It had me wanting more and more as it is a collection of many "things" making me want more "things". I would recommend this to all my friends and has have my daughters to read it also. I won this great book on GoodReads.
...Insightful for Dummies, Enticing for Readers, Instructing for Writers: this mishmash is slick, cool, smooth. I enjoyed completely each nugget exposed by Lynn's writing. Eyeporn, baby...
