“I have found that love is something you never run out of. It is probably the only thing in the world that grows the more you use it.”
What a lovely experience and privilege to read this book! Joy Through the Journey made me feel as if I were in the room with Helene, hearing about the first time she met her husband or how she juggled raising THIRTEEN children, or how she clung to her faith during some of the very difficult times of her life. Honest, inspiring, and full of simple gratitude, Joy Through the Journey whisked me back to a time in history where less really did seem like more. I appreciate the lessons and stories in this book—many which made me laugh out loud. While I know this memoir is a beautiful tribute and legacy to the authors’ family, I feel it was written for anyone who wants to peel back the layers and take a look inside a remarkable and well-lived life.
I can’t say enough wonderful things about Helene’s memoir. As I sit with maybe my last baby while he naps soaking up all her words of encouragement and wisdom, I feel like Helene is the woman I have been looking for. The woman to say it’s ok to trust God with your family, it’s perfectly normal to have a clean house and a herd of kids, it’s normal to have a husband you are partners with and share the yoke. Her faith and upbeat nature just astound me. As a mom of twins myself who came as numbers 5&6 I can relate to all older kids helping out with playing with littles or helping with breakfast or lunch. Losing a baby, and even her short foster of a little baby. I have French Canadian family on my mother’s side and my husband’s mother side and so much is familiar, warm, and like I can just picture the house, the food, everything. My grandfather worked at General Electric and much of my family lived in north Attleboro. So much of her story was alive in my mind as I was reading it. A tribute to her children and her for really capturing her memories. I’ve recommended this to every mom I have come across or talked with since hearing about it.

Fantastic story that will have you laughing, crying and inspired
At age 101, an extraordinary recounting of a true marital partnership and raising 13 children through a strong faith, innovation, and ultimate love of family. Oh, there were some critics who passed judgement but as you'll see they are without merit. I challenge anyone to be disappointed in this read. The book is relatively short but packed with many gems of wisdom.
“Everyone is here for a reason. At times when that purpose is not clear, a deep look inward is a good place to start”
It was a privilege to read this story and hear how amazing of a woman Helene is. It truly felt like I was sitting down with her while she told me this story. This family is full of joy, wisdom and love that deserves to be shared.
