okay i'm putting this one down at 2am and i need to talk about it.
this book is what happens when someone with actual intelligence background writes a spy thriller. IT WAS SO GOOD. no james bond gadgets or convenient explosions. just a CIA operative who has to outthink everyone around her to survive.
I was OBSESSED with our FMC. she's strong without being too strong. she's a strategist, not a weapon. she's constantly thinking, adapting and recalculating.
the dual perspective absolutely makes this book. while kara is fighting to stay alive in captivity, her field supervisor is back at the agency hitting wall after wall trying to convince anyone she's still out there. that tension between official silence and personal conviction is one of the most compelling parts of the entire story.
and the villain. a former GRU officer whose specialty isn't killing people.. it's ERASING them. like they never existed. i have not stopped thinking about that since i read it. that is so much more disturbing than a conventional bad guy and it gave the whole book this low simmering dread that never let up.
The pacing is brutal in that you are constantly like "NO WAIT ONE MORE CHAPTER" until suddenly it was 2am and i was reading the cliffhanger ending and FERAL for book two.
A thrilling page turner of a book! I really can't wait for the second Kara Chorna book to be published! Out of Bounds: Convergence ended on some cliffhangers that I desperately need answers to, and I don't know how long I can wait for them! I read this book in one sitting. I literally could not put it down.
Wow! What a book. I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the second one. It kept me on my toes the whole time. I kept making guesses of what would happen next and I was always surprised. Not the typical book I read but the authors writing and storyline was amazing. Definitely recommended!
