Jane and Mick have worked hard for their home and children. But their wonderful lifestyle comes to a dramatic end when Mick's business runs into trouble and he suddenly disappears. Faced with poverty and homelessness, Jane discovers she has unexpected strengths and is capable of being more than just a housewife...
Mick and Jane love each other. Mick has pulled them out of the housing projects all the way to a fancy house in a ritzy area of town. It isn't, however, a particularly healthy relationship- even though it probably wasn't an unusual one considering the time and place.(1966)
Jane is more than content to be a wife and mother - and that's exactly how Mick likes it. Mick spends his life trying to impress everyone with his success, which he flaunts at every turn. When he is faced with failure and financial ruin, he can't cope and deserts his family.
Jane is utterly crushed, but she discovers she's tougher and smarter than she knew. She slowly and painfully builds a new life for herself and her children.
But Mick is still out there, planning his return. Can they get back together and live happily ever after?
It's hard to call this a nice little story- there's plenty of pain, heartbreak, death, fire, and even a touch of domestic violence- but it reads like a ... nice little story.
It's a little dated by now, and it shows. I can't strongly recommend it, but it isn't bad.
worth reading starting is a little boring but the struggle of lady defined is a bit emotional because you will get to read that her husband leaved her due to some financial problems instead of facing them with her. how lady emerges from misery and grow a new business is worth reading.
I really enjoyed this book. Some of the things are a bit too perfect and I feel make it less believable but it made no difference to the enjoyment of the story. I would definitely read more books by this author.
