Although there's nothing earth-shatteringly new in this guide to earning money, youngsters will find plenty of tips about how to set up their own small business and use the skills they already have. One of the most helpful aspects of the book is how it offers information about budgets and money management. After all, spending every cent someone earns might not always be the right decision, and there's something to be said about planning for the future. The book provides this information in text, charts, and examples while discussing moneymaking in a child-friendly tone and supported by vivid illustrations populated by smiling, busy youngsters. Young entrepreneurs will also find it helpful to note that if they are selling something such as foods or beverages, they will need to make sure they earn enough from sales to sustain the business. In addition to selling something, caring for someone's pet, house or child, lawn care, cleaning services for cars or pets, seasonal services such as holiday decorations, youngsters might even offer tech services to older individuals who aren't as tech-savvy as they are. While these ideas won't work for everyone, they certainly provide a great starting place to learn about how to manage money as well as how to earn it. Best of all, there's nothing dry about this book.

HOW DO KIDS MAKE MONEY is a book that teaches children ways they can make money. It addresses things they can to be responsible with both the planning stage and budgeting after they start making money. Money management is an important part of making money that a lot of people overlook or forget to educate their children about. Whether it's a long-term goal or short-term one, none of it is accomplishable if they don't plan for expenses.

The illustrations are bold and cartoon-y to emphasize the skills needed for each task. I like how it also incorporates real photos and graphs where needed. The author also shows children the importance of doing a good job because more customers are brought in by word-of-mouth. This concept is key to success and I like how the author points it out along with sources they can use for advice. Like their parents.


Final Verdict: HOW DO KIDS MAKE MONEY not only shows the ways to make money, but also how to be responsible with it which makes this book an excellent educational tool. I would recommend this to children aged eight and up who want to make a bit of extra money for that toy they've always wanted or maybe something even larger. For those children who are ready to show responsibility, this is a great place to start.

I listened to the Audiobook. This was a fun and educational listen with my kids, aged 10 and 7, especially since they have done a few of the items in the book that would help. Having the narration with some kids and different voices kept them mostly engaged in the topic. I liked how it not only spoke to how to earn money but also how to what to do with the money after (spend, save, donate), in a simple way. What I would have loved is to have a visual that would accompany the PDF which provides some of the key points and lists of the ways to make money. I'd probably pick this book up as well to leaf through as I am curious as to what the written version looks like.

Love this book of idea starters for kids. It has some fantastic ideas on how to start making money at a young age. Yes, it's the basics like a lemonade stand, babysitting, lawn care, etc., but has some helpful hints along the way to get your kid going in the right direction and asking the right questions to get the job done. It's a really cute guide! Plus, it's fun enough that your boys and girls will like reading it. Definitely recommend.

How Do Kids Make Money? by Kate Hayes

I truly wish I had access to this book as a kid. I would have devoured it. I cannot count the amount of times I came up with get-rich-quick schemes that would have benefited from the wisdom in these pages. It introduces solid business and money management methods to young readers in an accessible way. There were honestly a few things I was happy to learn as an adult. I am eager to read this to my child when he is old enough.
