Getting ready for bedtime, step by step

It's bedtime for one little boy, and time to say good night. Even the next-door cat and Buster the dog are ready for sleep. Told from the point of view of a mother easing her child through the steps of bedtime, this comforting story is both timeless and universal. Anne Rockwell's lyrical prose and colorful pictures make this a perfect book for sharing at night, over and over again.

Anne Rockwell is a pioneer in the field of preschool books. She has written and illustrated more than one hundred books for young readers during a career that spans four decades.

Ready for bed-ey? Here comes more book to offer a solution.

But will that book stand out?

To me, it does. Deserving a FIVE STAR salute.

How come? Due mostly to the cleverly calibrated steps in the child's betime ritual. Such as:

Shhh to you, Buster,
growling so softly.

What do you hear out there in the yard?

Do you hear
tiptoe, tiptoe?

Do you see a shadow
creeping over the fence?

Only it's just the next-door cat, heading home. And this was the scariest thing in the entire book.

Brilliantly done, as usual, Anne Rockwell. Also, I think her illustrations are magnificent.

A book about what a boy sees while he is trying to go to sleep. This book had no purpose and the pictures were not very clear or colorful.
