In this totally practical and imaginative work, full of stimulating ideas, the art of puppetry is brought to life for anyone interested in animated theatre. This inspirational book will provide an invaluable manual for students, teachers and parents alike.
WOW! I have read a lot of puppetry books in my day. Never before have I read one that focused so hardcore on how puppetry has impacted and been used in special services, therapy and education in such detail. An amazing resource: I wish more libraries, bookstores, teachers, homeschool parents, and arts groups used puppets. They aren't just for kids. The book covers a broad range of uses and how-to helpful guides for therapists, puppeteers, educators and more to use in: -physical challenges -speech therapy -social anxiety -abuse -combating fears (such as surgical procedures) -PTSD for veterans -behavioral challenges -neurological challenges -coping -autism -ADHD -hearing challenges -sight challenges -language challenges -literacy challenges -healthcare education among many others. Puppets, unlike dolls or toys, provide a different outlet. It is an extremely useful tool in terms of communication. This book does stress the points that puppets are also NOT just for children, but adults and teenagers as well and provides the ways to use them for communication, therapy and/or entertainment tools. The book goes on to show what different types of puppets there are, how they can work in your field of work, and how they can be created. Seriously, if you are in the arts, education, library, or therapy world, read and ingest this book.
