Arduino Android Blueprints

Get the best out of Arduino by interfacing it with Android to create engaging interactive projects This book is for those who want to learn how to build exciting Arduino projects by interfacing it with Android. You will need to have some basic experience in electronics and programming. However, you don't need to have any previous experience with the Arduino or Android platforms. Arduino is an open source microcontroller built on a single-circuit board that is capable of receiving sensory input from the environment and controlling interactive physical objects. The first few projects of this book will focus on displaying tweets within your app by connecting to Twitter, controlling basic functions of the Arduino board, and connecting an Arduino-powered weather station to an Android phone via Bluetooth. Next, you will learn how to use the Arduino Yun board to connect a standard USB camera to a local Wi-Fi network. At the end of the book, you will build a simple mobile robot, connect it to an Arduino board and a Bluetooth module, then control the robot from an Android phone using Bluetooth. Each project is explained in a step-by-step fashion, always starting with the choice of components and the assembly of the hardware.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the book by the publisher for me to review it. There was no condition that the review should be only positive and also I didn’t receive any payment for the review. So I am just writing what I felt about the book after reading it.

Arduino Android Blueprints is the book that talks about the different ways by which you can interface Android devices with Arduino boards to create interesting interactive projects. The book follows the “teach by show” approach and apart from the first chapter which was just introduction, every chapter is a project that you can try on your own.

I liked the fact that the book followed a real hands-on approach, backed by proper introduction to the concepts. Some books make the mistake of just talking about the concepts and others make the mistake of just talking about the project without any explanation.

This book has a proper balance between talking about the implementation details and explaining the concept.

But one thing to keep in mind is that this book is not for complete beginners. You would need to have some basic understanding of Arduino and how to program it to get the most out of the book. If you are completely new to Arduino, then this book may not be the correct one for you.
