About the author

John Bytheway (born October 1962) is an American author and academic, who is well known as a comic motivational speaker for youth within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Born in Salt Lake City, Bytheway attended the University of Utah and Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah, receiving a Master's Degree in Religious Education. He also served as a missionary for the LDS Church in the Philippines.

Bytheway is a religious studies instructor at BYU, currently focusing on the Book of Mormon. He also serves on the Aaronic Priesthood/Young Women Writing Committee for the LDS Church. Bytheway and his wife Kimberly have six children.

Great read

This was a very quick read with some mostly good advice for missionaries. I say mostly good because there were a few of his assertions I disagreed with.

I got this book to send to my nephew who is serving a mission in Italy. I decided to read it, because we were driving and I had it in the car with me. Three stars might seem like a low rating, so I think I will change it to four stars. Although, three was not bad because that meant that I liked it. Anyway I think that this is a cute book to send to someone serving a mission. I think I will have him rate it after he reads it.

I will be leaving for Georgia for my mission next month for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I read this book and feel like I am better prepared to serve. I just wish it was longer! It taught me things about missionary life that I was not aware of, and I am grateful that it came across my path. I'm sure I will benefit from what I've learned from Brother Bytheway!

This is the pocket-sized version of "What I Wish I'd Known Before My Misson." Many helpful hints, like leaving right after praying to leave the Spirit in the home rather than linger and let the atmosphere become casual. Also, how to understand that you are not just teaching doctrine but those you teach are making social adjustments.
