Some histories are erased for a reason. Some truths fight back.
Dr. Adrian Voss built his life on patterns, proof, and the belief that truth survives scrutiny. After a career-ending scandal he didn’t commit, isolation is his refuge—until he uncovers a hidden cipher in a 15th-century manuscript that no one else is meant to see.
The symbols feel familiar. Personal. Like echoes of the code his late father obsessively sketched before his unexplained death.
As Adrian digs deeper, doors open that should have stayed sealed. Colleagues turn hostile. His apartment is quietly breached. A symbol appears where no one should have access. A rival academic seems to know far more than he admits.
With the help of a guarded French restorer whose own mentor vanished, Adrian begins to suspect the history itself is being edited.
Every discovery fractures his sense of reality.
Is he uncovering a conspiracy—or repeating the obsession that destroyed his father?
I received an ARC through "Booksprout" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This story tells the tale where Adrian Voss along with Elena Moreau as they search for the source related to information Adrian had discovered in his review of the Sforza Ledger. As a result of the search they became targets of a group known as The Concordia society. It seems that symbols that Adrian discovered had special meanings and were a log of an event that happened on such a date. Further investigation presented the existing documentation was different from the event that really occurred . The description that was presented as factual was really that which the group wanted.
Follow Adrian and Elena as they travel from location to location chasing the clues that they have found. Learn what step the Concordia society is willing to do in order to prevent them from disturbing the process that has been in place for several centuries. Discover the sites that Adian and Elena visited and what steps they had to take in order to be incognito.
The ending provides a clear understanding of what their last action that the two took and what the ramifications were now visible.
The story is worth reading and looking forward to the next book in the series.
This is the sort of book that keeps you guessing not only about what is happening to the characters, but about life itself. Following in his father’s footsteps, Adrian is a researcher and Professor of ancient history and documentation.
Embedded in the margins of many texts appear to be puzzles and codes, written at a time different than the original, and which lead him to follow their paths through many different documents.
However, there are those who strive to keep him from discovering the clues and codes by undermining his work and stealing his research, going so far as to make the original documents disappear from their repository.
This is a tense, intellectual book, and can create many scenarios and questions in the reader’s mind while working through the narrative.
Apparently, a second volume will follow, exploring the characters further.
The Forgotten Cipher: A Conspiracy Thriller (The Archivist's Code Book 1), my first well-conspiracy thriller read from author Christie Winter. There are so many conspiracy thrillers out there and so many authors writing them, but they're popular, I enjoy them & read more than my share of them. I was given a complementary Kindle copy and am voluntarily reading & reviewing it. I’ll be reading more by this author with The Ambush Files: A Conspiracy Thriller high on my TBR list. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Busy codes What is real and what is made to appear that way? This is a very busy story about codes, finding the real ones, and what is made to look like someone's but is not. Myself not knowing how to read codes and to find what is what, I could follow alot of the basics, but alot was lost to me. It was well written, I do not 'know' the codes. Thank you, Christie Winter, for a good story. I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Full disclosure, the author gave me this free ebook in exchange for an honest review. This is a good story with interesting characters and realistic research and action. It will hold your attention and leave you wanting more.
