TALONS OF POWER: THE GRAPHIC NOVEL is a thrilling new graphic novel adaptation in the WINGS OF FIRE series. This book follows Darkstalker as he is up to no good, as well as Turtle, who has really just wanted to be invisible. However, as Darkstalker seems to be causing trouble, Turtle must consider who he wants to be when the dust settles.

What I loved: This is a great graphic novel adaptation of the original book. It stays true to the original plot while keeping a focus on dialogue and images. Although there are a few places that are text heavy, it does a great job overall of keeping the focus on the artwork and telling the story through the images.

The dragons are detailed and fantastic throughout with a great style that helps to covey the character's emotions and dangerous plots. The pace felt just right in the book, not ruminating on anything too long before moving along to the next - the story works well as a graphic novel.

The story itself is an interesting one with a character who would rather stay invisible than get caught up in the dangerous fighting between good and evil. However, Turtle is beginning to find his own path and unwilling to look aside as bad things might happen. Ultimately, his character arc takes the reader through the story of a reluctant potential hero who is finding his own path, even if there are bumps and mistakes made along the way. Other themes around morality, courage, and fate were all really strong.

Final verdict: TALONS OF POWER: THE GRAPHIC NOVEL is an engaging installment in the series with expressive characters and intriguing themes. It definitely helps to have read the earlier books in the series (graphic novel or original) before jumping into this one.

Please note that I received an ARC. All opinions are my own.
