When a murdered stranger carries her calling card, a lady psychic must clear her name—and protect the friend whose secrets may have gotten him killed.
A man lies dead in the streets of London, and Electra Poole's calling card is found in his hand. Inspector Gideon Pierce, drawn back into her orbit despite every professional instinct, comes to her with questions she cannot answer. She has never met Percival Pennington. She has no idea why he carried her card. But Pierce's suspicion cuts deeper than the mystery itself, and Electra knows that her word alone will not be enough.
The investigation leads to Lady Cordelia Redmayne—Electra's dearest friend, her housemate, and the wife of a powerful Member of Parliament. Cordelia's name cannot be tangled in scandal, not when her husband's career and her own standing hang in the balance. Electra will not allow it. She turns to the psychic gifts that have always set her apart, searching for answers in visions the police cannot see and truths the dead cannot speak.
But what she uncovers is far more dangerous than a single murder. Hidden alliances stretch and tangle among those connected to Pennington. Buried secrets claw their way to the surface. And a disturbing vision reveals that danger may lurk for Gideon.
Christy Carlyle delivers a richly atmospheric mystery where Gothic tension meets slow-burning chemistry, moral stakes meet psychic insight, and the past refuses to stay buried. Perfect for readers who crave Victorian mysteries with depth, danger, and romance woven through every shadowed corner.
PERFECT FOR READERS WHO • Victorian mysteries with psychic sleuths • Fierce heroines protecting those they love • Atmospheric tension and high society scandal • Slow-burn chemistry with forbidden attraction • Secrets, shadows, and dangerous truths
Fueled by Pacific Northwest coffee and inspired by multiple viewings of every British costume drama she can get her hands on, USA Today bestselling author Christy Carlyle writes sensual historical romance set in the Victorian era. She loves heroes who struggle against all odds and heroines who are ahead of their time. A former teacher with a degree in history, she finds there's nothing better than being able to combine her love of the past with a die-hard belief in happy endings.
A Dangerous Vision is the third book in the Electra Poole Mystery series by Christy Carlyle and with each installment, I am loving the series more and more.
A man is found dead on the streets of London, a chilling mystery in hand—Electra Poole’s calling card clutched in his fingers. Unwittingly, Electra is drawn into another murder investigation under Gideon’s jurisdiction. Though he doesn’t fully understand her unique psychic abilities, he soon recognizes their value, and together they navigate the shadows to uncover the truth.
As the investigation deepens, the danger strikes too close to home. The trail leads straight to Lady Cordelia Redmayne—Electra’s closest friend, housemate, and the wife of a prominent MP—raising the stakes higher than ever. Together, Electra and Gideon race to uncover the truth, relying on her uncanny visions to reveal the secrets the suspects are hiding and the dead cannot speak.
Carlyle’s prose is a pleasure to read—lyrical yet infused with a steady pulse of suspense. The narrative is rich with vividly drawn characters, from Electra’s fiercely loyal, determined spirit to Gideon’s measured, stoic nature. The simmering, slow-burn tension between them adds depth to every encounter, enhancing the twists of the investigation. Suspects abound, lies and half-truths blur identities, and each new revelation pulls you deeper into the web.
While the mystery is gripping, it’s Carlyle’s elegant balance of tone, atmosphere, and character that makes the story linger. The final chapters are at once satisfying and haunting, leaving the reader eager to step back into Electra Poole’s shadowed world. This is a tale of secrets, loyalty, and danger that echoes long after the last page.

A Dangerous Vision by Christy Carlyle Electra Poole Mystery 3
~ Solving murders isn’t easy though it can be rewarding and sometimes further romance…at least it seems to for Electra and Gideon ~
What I liked: * Electra Poole: senses emotions, sees visions, sometimes hears words in the visions, refining her skills, curious, tenacious, generous, establishing her psychic business, mother was institutionalized by her father, loved & hated her murdered father, attracted to Gideon * Gideon Pierce: Detective Inspector, pickpocket in childhood, taken into the home of Electra’s father and mentored by him, controlled, well dressed and spoken, bright, protective, attracted to Electra and has accepted her “ability” * That Gideon and Electra know one another well and are able to build on the past to create a stronger relationship in the present * The paranormal element of the story and wanting to see how Electra’s abilities develop through the series * The police procedural aspects of the story, following the clues, and realizing that sometimes people that are murdered are not very nice * The plot, pacing, setting, and writing * That all of the threads were tied up at the end of the story and the murderer caught * Knowing that there will be another book to read in the future
What I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like * Considering what I might be willing to do to avoid poverty, prison, or the workhouses and orphanages * Thinking about what the penalty for murder was in this era, what part social status might play in the sentence handed down, and what the judgment would be for the murderer
Did I like this book? Yes Would I read more in this series? Definitely
Thank you to the Author, Oliver Heber, and Booksprout for the ARC – This is my honest review. 5 Stars
This is a tangled and perplexing case. It all starts when a skittish woman comes to Electra for a reading yet leaves hurriedly and then seemingly disappears. When a murder occurs that connects to Electra’s friend and her husband she inserts herself into another of Gideon’s cases. The two set out and discover the victim is not all he seemed and all the people they interview are concealing something. Investigating murder is never easy but in this case will the secrets crush any hope of finding the truth? Gotta say I never saw this ending coming. I was on the wrong track completely which is quite fun trying to beat the characters sometimes you’re right sometimes not so much. Gideon and Electra make a fantastic team he with his grim determination and she with her ability to sense truth from objects and occasionally see things to come. It’s a fun blend of historical and paranormal mysteries. I enjoyed the chase completely. I hope Gideon and Electra see what’s plain as day to the rest of us that they are more than friends and should get on with courting already lol. Just a fun read. I look forward to the next adventure!
The third in the series of Electra Poole and her best friend, Detective Inspector Gideon Pierce brings another suspenseful crime to be solved. A man is found dead on the streets of London clutching Electra’s card in his hand, even though she does not know who he is. It does however lead directly to Lady Cordelia Redmayne, Electra’s closest friend and housemate and wife of a prominent MP.
Electra offers her assistance to Gideon as her visions can sometimes reveal the future as well as the past and provide help with the investigations. Although Gideon is hesitant to use her services, she does prove once again to be useful asset in solving the murder. Ms Carlyle throws various suspects to the reader to engage you in the story, and it is a guessing game until the very end, but the ending is always satisfying. I would recommend this book and series.
I received an ARC from the publishers and Booksprout with thanks and submit my honest review voluntarily.
A Dangerous Vision is book 3 of the excellent Electra Poole Mysteries Series by Christy Carlyle. Electra waits for one visitor while someone who she does not know dies with her calling card. Intrigue from the very beginning with Inspector Gideon Pierce and Electra once again into a mystery. Two opposites but it is impossible not to see the attraction between them. This time Electra must find out why the dead man was clutching her calling card but the answers are not as easy as they might seem. Others are involved, others she would protect if she can.
I like stories that I have to think about the clues right along with the main character, which Electra’s stories always are. I also like the wobbly relationship between Inspector Gideon Pierce and Electra along with their past connection. Great characters, well-written plot and conclusions that are satisfying, A Dangerous Vision check all those boxes.
Well written, full of drama, mystery, love, chemistry, humor, danger, secrets, twists, scandal, society and so many turns that your head spins in circles. This story keeps you on the edge of your seat till the ending. When a man is found murdered yet holding a card that belongs to Electra Porte. She has a psychic ability that she has yet to fully understand. Inspector Gideon Pierce is handed the case and will need her help to solve all the questions to be able to get to the right answers. As you read the story there are so many ways to solve yet the biggest is who really did it. Will hold your attention and have you turning the pages. Great group of characters that are truly remarkable. Would strongly recommend this story to everyone.

4.6 stars Electra Poole's calling card is found in his hand. Inspector Gideon Pierce, drawn back into her orbit despite every professional instinct, comes to her with questions she cannot answer. The last thing Gideon wants is to drag Electra back into another murder mystery but with Electra calling card in the deceased hand well! But this mystery strikes very close to home with her dear friend Lady Cordelia and her husband Kit as potential suspects! The deceased was a man of secrets and certainly not beloved! While Gideon tries to sort through his feelings for Electra and she him the clues add up to an assailant they didn’t see coming! Another thrilling mystery brought to a satisfying conclusion. Definitely a page turner! Bravo I received an ARC copy from Booksprout for my unbiased opinion!
What a dizzying story this one is! Electra and Gideon have their hands full with a murder most confusing. I loved how Electra instilled herself into the investigation, much to Gideon’s chagrin. The reader is given many potential villains to choose from and , as always, it is never who one thinks it is! Well plotted, well written, great mystery that even with following the clues, the answer isn’t apparent . I adore these two and wish their relationship would bloom!.

Electra Poole can see visions. Sometimes the future and sometimes the past. She would like to help her best friend, Detective Inspector Gideon Pierce, solve crimes. He is not sure he believes or understands her gifts. When a man is murdered who has touched Electra’s friends, she wants to help prove them innocent but Gideon is not so sure he wants or needs her help. The back and forth between the two is light and fun. The book is a quick read. I will gladly read more from this author.

This murder mystery has several potential suspects so it leaves you in some suspense on who really is the quilts party. I enjoyed the FMC has she explores her psychic gifts that she doesn’t fully understand as yet. The MMC is very protective of her and is slowly trying to understand her psychic gifts but also wants to protect her. I liked the mystery. This is the third book in the series but probably could be read as a standalone without too much trouble.

Even Electra Poole's psychic abilities are no help in understanding why a murder victim was found with her card clutched in her hand. Percival Pennington is a complete stranger to her but she is determined to find out what their connection is. Inspector Gideon Pierce is Electra's long time friend and allows Electra to assist with the investigation despite his better judgement. Once again they combine his investigative skills with her psychic abilities to discover that this murder has closer ties to them than expected. Another good book in the series.
When a man is murdered near his home and has Electra's business card in his hand, Gideon contacts her. She does not know the victim, nor does she know how he got her card. The storyline is interesting, full of twists and turns, has lots of interesting secondary characters and suspects, and will keep you guessing who did it until the end. This is the third book in the series but can easily be read as a standalone. I cannot wait for the next book in the series!
This is an excellent series! The latest is my favorite thus far.
Electra is unwittingly pulled into another murder case that is in Gideon’s jurisdiction. But this time, he is more willing to allow her to help investigate and use her abilities to assist. There are plenty of suspects and twists and turns. I also love the slow burn between Electra and Gideon.
Looking forward to the next one!.

When Electra Poole’s calling card is found in a dead man’s hand, can her psychic abilities help solve the crime? Lots of twists and turns in this haunting mystery, as Inspector Gideon Pierce tries to find the truth and keep Electra safe. Friendships are tested, and secrets emerge in this emotional and dramatic third book in the series. I received a free copy from Booksprout, this review is my honest opinion.
I always enjoy Electra Poole Mysteries very much. However, this time, I was disappointed in the lack of editing skills. There were multiple occasions where there were missing words that were jarring and obvious, and I don't see how any competent editor missed them. However, I still look forward to the next book because I do enjoy the storyline!
Book three of the intriguing works related to Poole and Pierce. Their struggles to uncover the suspenseful mystery of a murder will hold you captive until the very last moment. Well written and excellent character development. Fully recommended this series.

This thrilling murder mystery book captivated me from the very first page. It deeply affected the main character and kept me hooked throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the entire series.
