Voyages: The Romance of Cruising

Clarke, the recently-retired travel editor of the Miami Herald, brings together travel writers' descriptions of the world's 100 most exciting ports of call. Contributors evaluate the five most important factors in determining a cruise destination (shopping, cuisine, cultural adventure, entertainment, and romantic ambiance) and rate them on a five-star scale. Their assessments are organized by geographic region and are accompanied by photojournalist Harvey Lloyd's dramatic color photographs. 10.5x12.5. Annotation c. My daughter got this for me at a thrift store (it's 25 years old!), since I love cruising. It is a beautiful (and very heavy) book, which ranks 100 ports of call throughout the world. The photos are incredible, and the text is very well-written, by a different author for each section. I really enjoyed this armchair trip around the world, but it was sad to see the twin towers of the World Trade Center soaring above Cunard's QE2. How things have changed since then!

The art work is beautiful and the writing is good! I just didn't want to read about the different ports of call.
