Rate this book
Claudio Ibáñez, the Chilean positive psychologist that volunteered as a member of the Rescue Team for the 33 Chilean miners trapped 700 meters underground in the Atacama Desert, offers a new way to interpret the 33 miners catastrophe. The public furor caused by the discovery and the subsequent rescue of the 33 miners and the psychological reasons for the success of this operation are the central themes in this book.

I give it 4 stars for the premise and all the information gathered from the miners that has not been published before. The writing could have been better and there were a lot of characters to keep track of but it was real life and not a novel. This book will haunt you and make you think about what happens once you strip away society and people are in complete survival mode. After I read the book I watch youtube videos of the rescue and could not stop crying.

The story of the 33 Chilean miners trapped for 69 days is heartrending. We all know they were rescued through truly amazing efforts of many participants. But they hopes they individually had for a different, better life were mostly never realized. They were indeed simple men, not heroes. The author has done a fine job in telling their story in their own words.
