And that choice will cost them everything.

But the mob doesn't forgive deserters, and when the Baldinis kidnap Adrian at twenty-one weeks pregnant, Cris will burn down every safe house, warehouse, and alliance in the country to bring his family home. Even if it means selling his soul back to the man who made him a monster.

The characters are fine and the romance elements too, but there are serious, extremely distracting structural issues that made this book difficult to read. There were whole scenes in the wrong order, for example, and one laughable moment when a minor character was somehow a cousin, a nephew, and a son—of the same person! I feel like these really obvious errors were either a mistake—the wrong draft sent to press—or had unfortunate AI “assistance.” It’s too bad, too, because Adrian and Cris’ love story deserves better.
