It took me two days to finish this beautiful emotional heart-wrenching book, between the crying and the screaming it left me bare!

The heroine Charlotte is 19 at the time, she has a small set of friends, and a best friend named Joe..
She works at a pizzeria until she gets a job at SEARCH.
We don't really find out a lot about Charlotte in the beginning, everything starts revealing itself throughout the story, layer by layer.. where you hold your breath waiting...

Now at SEARCH she meets this beatiful Russian named Andrew, not only is he beautiful outside, he is the most caring person in the inside.
He sees Charlotte like noone has seen her before (maybe besides Joe)
So they form this friendship.. You can sense this chemistry, sense that they both want more, but the past is holding Charlotte back.. and she is scared to let anyone in because her past is just too ugly.. but Andrew is stronger then she thinks.. so what happens when she finally lets him in?

Now they were times where I wanted to strange Charlotte, but I also felt her pain, she is young, she has never been in a relationship where flirting is just flirting but at times she was driving me up the wall but I still couldn't hate her. Ten a few chapters later I was mad at Andrew and crying for Charlotte, because I love them both so much. The author made them so real, where I was a part of both of them, I was a part of the story, a story I never wanted to end..

But then H.M. took me by surprise and the spins, and turns came up in a true sense of way..
The Break up, The friendship, the friends with benefits, the love still so strong, the heartbreak.. at times it felt as though you were reliving your first love, and if you were lucky enough to snatch up and still be with him to this day good for you, but if not all the emotions are back.. I just can't describe how heartbroken and sad and hopeful I am.. and then BAAM!

OMG! I was not expecting this... HOW MUCH LONGER DO I HAVE to wait for BOOK 2?!? Please tell me NOW!!!! I need to know what happens!!!!!

I'm apparently in the minority with disliking this book. While I understand it's emotionally heart-wrenching, I actually found Charlotte to be weak and kind of stupid. I honestly really struggled with this book. Charlotte is weak and dependent. Someone is always carrying Charlotte to bed or babying her.

There also was a lot of crazy, dramatic, and dangerous things that happen to Charlotte that just seemed over the top. And the story seems to take forever to progress. I found typos throughout the novel and a character was called by a different name (Lloyd is later called Larry). The majority of the story revolves around her relationship with Andrew, which got a little boring and repetitive - I get it, they kiss passionately and it makes her weak in the knees every time. Only the last 10% involve another guy and her deciding between the two. I disliked Andrew's character, he seemed aggressive or jealous right from the start. Maybe possessive?

SPOILERS:

DO NOT read this if you don't like reading about abuse - rape, abusive parents, and drug abuse are all present in this novel. After being raped, Charlotte continues to push Andrew away and instead starts dating someone and ends up pregnant. And when Charlotte finally wants to be with Andrew, he only spends time with her when it's convenient for him. He totally doesn't treat her like he's been head over heels in love with her. Then they end up just being friends with benefits. I know I should've sympathized more with Charlotte, but I found her weak and stupid.

Charlotte Cooper has been burned one too many times to let anyone except her best friend Joe get to close. He knows all of her deep, dark secrets and he has sworn to protect her. After landing a new job, Charlotte catches the eye of a handsome, blue-eyed, co-worker named Andrew. Although Andrew seems to be the perfect guy, Charlotte is committed to keeping him in the friend zone, until a vicious attack brings them closer together.

Pretty soon, Andrew's other commitments and an unexpected trip abroad lead Charlotte to seek attention elsewhere. When Charlotte meets Jack at a friend's wedding, he showers her with the attention and love that she no longer feels from Andrew. Now Charlotte must decide between the man she truly loves and the man she feels she needs.

*SPOILERS TO FOLLOW*
I really should have liked this book. All of the abuse and tragedies that Charlotte faced should have made me like her or at least feel empathy for her but I don't. I couldn't understand why so soon after her attack, she continued to push Andrew away but she dived right into a relationship with someone else and got pregnant. Then when she finally decided to give Andrew a real chance, he decides he wants to be FWB??!! I didn't like Andrew either. When Charlotte finally opens up to him about her feelings, he doesn't want to be bothered with her until he finds out that she's with someone else. And what about her best friend and sworn protector Joe, leaving her alone after her attack to spend time with his girlfriend?? I can't even explain how badly these characters and this plot annoyed me!

Run Away Charlotte is probably one of the most emotional books I've read this year or month and on that note I need to read a book with an HEA after this.

This was kind of sad, not kind but it is because we have two MC whom you know were meant to be together but alas there's always some obstacles in the way. The trials this two have in their relationship and the choices they made just mostly makes me want to just knock some sense into their head.

Then learning about Charlotte's past you could feel her pain but of course there are times that Charlotte's character irritates you and then there's Andrew who like the synopsis said, "devastated her". Why? Oh? Why? Just when things turned out to be goof between the two of them something wrong just had to happened. Like I mentioned there were decisions most especially Charlotte that I still couldn't let my mind move on.

Then there was the ending. Why? Now this is one of those books that I would need to read badly when the sequel comes out.

I really thought this would be a stand alone because there was no clue at the beginning that it would have a sequel although I had an inkling as the story neared the end because it wasn't going anywhere that would lead to their HEA. And yeah, the ending. I hate it so much.

All I can say for now about them is that they are both idiots. Charlotte rushing into things although I do get that it is Andrew's fault. I wished that Andrew talked to her instead of her finding out too late what Andrew did for her.

Still, looking forward to book 2.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

Did I read the same book as everyone else? I could barely make it 10% in before I just gave up. Nothing about the beginning really made me connect with the characters. The writing felt underdeveloped and I found I couldn't continue. Maybe it just wasn't for me, but I firmly believe a book should catch a reader's attention in the first few pages and that most certainly didn't happen for me.

I started out giving this book 4 stars - but I was just lying to myself. It's been more than 36 hours since I finished the book, and I can't get it out of my head. The story, the characters, the emotions...I'm not even sure 5 stars is truly enough.

I love books that send me on an emotional roller-coaster. It helps me get lost in the story, in the experience of the book, and take the break from reality I look for when I read. And H.M. Shander's "Run Away Charlotte" is one of those books!

Charlotte's life broke my heart, there's no other way to say it. A horribly sad childhood that forced her to grow up way too fast, way too soon, and way too guarded...transitioning right into two horrible experiences as a young adult. At one point, I caught myself quietly muttering the words 'how much hurt can one person experience?!'

It's no surprise that for all she's faced, the ideas of love and trust and openness and dependence are foreign to her. Outside of her BFF Joe and his fantastic mom and brother, there have been so few people in her life to show her what it's really like to be treated with love and respect and appreciation. And, if anyone deserves to be treated like that, for all that Charlotte has survived, it has be her!

Cue Andrew Wagner.

Watching their love grow and develop wasn't easy. For a while, I wanted to smack Charlotte - who is convinced Andrew could never love her if he knew the 'real her'. Then I wanted to smack Andrew - who convinces Charlotte to finally trust him enough to bare it all, only to have him clam up. Each struggled with their own insecurities and disappointments. Each struggled with opening up and letting people in and holding people close. Each fought so hard to love the other with all that they had, while worrying it will never be enough.

But in the end, the age old question must be answered. Is love ever truly enough?

I laughed with them both. I cried with them both. I fell in love with them both. I hoped and wished and begged for a happy ending for them both. And, now I'll go read book two, Ask Me Again, with them both - because, like any true love...I'm just not ready to let them go yet!

I really enjoyed reading this book. Taking place in Edmonton, it follows the friendship and eventual relationship of Charlotte and Andrew, two young adults navigating their way through the trials they encounter, and how they deal with Charlotte's tragic past. It is written in a way that slowly draws you in and keeps you reading until the very end. The first few pages, I could take it or leave it. But as Charlotte's past was exposed, I had no choice but to keep going. I needed to know what happened to her. The details could not be revealed fast enough for me. I cared what happened to her. I cried with each tragedy past and present. I wanted to curse her and shake her when she was being the dramatic, frustratingly self absorbed teenager that she is expected to be. I was happy for her when things finally started working out for her and Andrew, only to feel her disappointment when things once again went wrong. Charlotte and Andrew felt like very true characters, real people with realistic responses to their situations. The plot is excellent and I love that the book leaves you hanging and needing to read the next one (out soon, I hope!)
As much as I liked this book, I did sometimes find the dialogue stilted and unnatural. I understand this is the author's first book and could see improvements as the book continued. I felt that the dialogue flowed more naturally as it progressed, perhaps a reflection of the author's growth throughout the writing of it. Also a few editing/spelling errors that were briefly distracting before I was once again fully absorbed in Charlotte's story.
All in all, this is a great read, it will definitely draw you in and leave you wanting more!

Wow. This book. I can't even. I'm speechless. It was written so beautifully. The plot was definitely captivating. I've never read a story like this before. It ruined me, in a good way tho! I cried a lot towards the ending of the story. I WAS A WRECK!
This book is all about love and second chances. I truly loved it! I look forward to reading more from this author. :)
There were moments in the book where I really needed a break because my heart couldn't take it.
Not to spoil you guys, but there's always struggles along the way when it comes to relationships. Although, Andrew and Charlotte was a lot different. There love for each other was indescribable. If only I was in the book so I could smack their heads haha and tell them that forever shouldn't be a scary thing at all that they belong together. It's overuse but when something or someone is worth it, we shouldn't be afraid to use forever at all. Okay maybe forever doesn't last forever but it's worth a try. Right!?
Anyway, Run Away Charlotte got me thinking. I'm glad I read this book ! Honestly, I was kinda disappointed when the book ended. I did not expect that at all.
Can't way for book 2 ! I honestly can't wait ! I need it now please ! I crave Charlotte and Andrew's love story right now!
I give this book 4 stars. A MUST READ! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL THE READERS OUT THERE!

I received a copy in exchange of an honest review.

I liked the book, the story is good and well written, but I feel ambivalent about the main character, Charlotte. As much as I understand and have sympathy for her, it looks to me that she didn't learn much from the sad past. She lacks self respect and this handicaps her in any relationship, her friendship and love for Andrew become a crutch, her need to be his main preoccupation, above anything else unrealistic

I liked very much Andrew and I really felt his heartbreak. As you can guess, I didn't like Jack-he is the manipulative, controlling type who takes advantage of Charlotte's vulnerability to get her and he seems to lack the genuine feelings that Andrew has, for Jack all comes to his money, power and taking advantage of the moment.

I am glad that there is a second book and I look forward to seeing how the story develops.

Even thought I'm not into book on third narration, I kinda really like this one. I love how easy was the relationship at first of Drew and cat I really love it, you know is that kind of chemistry that is so easy to catch and to feel, I love how loyal was charlie in every moment, except in that little moment that someone ask her for something... I know you will get it later, don't worry.
I love Joey and how he was the best friend you could ever ask for, how he support her no matter what.. I've got to say that I didn't expect that little past between him and cat lol
Even thought I didn't like how both of them (Drew and cat) affront some things... I love both of them they are meant to be.
On the other side, there's Jack and well he is.. Jack, he gave Charlie everything she deserve but not what she really need it deep in her heart.
I can't stand that ending, I can't believe it, this book made me really sad with all of the things that happened to the characters and that is just not the end I was expecting, so please H.M. Shander I need more!!! I'm waiting to read the second book because I know it will be. I need to know that HE will get a happy ending too. Both of them. All of them! Don't make me suffer more. So I'm waiting. I recommend this to everyone cause I know at the end you will be desperate for closure as I am lol

I give it 3 stars bc there are just something's that happen to fast , while taking so long to go there. I must say this is not read that will seem familiar, which I think is great. First off the names of the characters are more traditional like Charlotte.

Charlotte doesn't think she deserves to be happy. She has a tainted past and just gets by. No one really knows all the secrets she hides but her best friend Joe. I like joe until he leaves Charlotte after a tragedy. It's weird. Than there is Andrew who I love. He wanted Charlotte for so long and she just wouldn't give him the time of day bc of her past. Does he get the time well kind of but life happens in coming older man who can give Charlotte everything. So the story continues and we do see Andrew again yay.!! What happens you should read and find out. It's a good story and so different. Oh and you will cry.

First, I received this copy from the author as part of a blind book read in exchange for my honest review.

I'm still not too sure how I feel about this book. I will try to keep it spoiler free, but a few obvious things might slip here or there.

To start off with I'm not a big fan of third person point of view for romance style stories. I understand that sometimes you want a little input from one of the other characters during some scenes, but this story had two distinct main characters, so I would have preferred to have stayed in just one head, or had dual pov's.

As a result of this, it took me a little bit to get going but I did. Eventually though I started to get bored. I couldn't quite see where the endgame would be and was wondering when I would get to something that would give me that clue. There just came to be so much of the same stuff, the constant pushing and pulling of the characters, that I really just wanted it to end. I understand what it was trying to prove, but it just happened too much. The book could have been shorter, and for me, possibly more satisfying without all of those instances.

When I got to the end I was a bit confused. The prologue ends in a way that it sets up the story for a long flashback. I expected it to end basically where it began, but got an epilogue. The timeline didn't seem to line up with the beginning, so I thought this was just going to be an abrupt end. Until I turned the last page and got hit with a cliffhanger.

Don't get me wrong, I do like the idea of the story very much. Her secrets were what gave the story the additional emotions you want from a story like this. There was just too many times when we went back to doing the same thing before something disrupted it, to go back to it all over again. I want to know how it ends, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to sit through another excessively, long book for it.

Run Away Charlotte: The Courting of Charlotte Cooper by H.M. Shander – 4 Stars

I read this story blind – I had no idea what genre it was or that it may or may not have ended like I thought it would.

Run Away Charlotte is the story of Charlotte Cooper and all the events that she has had to deal with in her life. She is a survivor of so much and only a few people REALLY know what she’s been through. Her best friend’s name is Joe and he would go to the ends of the Earth to protect her. Charlotte is one of those girls that you just want to give a really big hug to and let her know that life won’t always be this way while hoping that it’s true. She has to make life altering decisions based on other people’s feelings and while I was really cheering her on at times I also wanted to yell at her to stay away from certain people.

This book really pulled at my heartstrings. The characters are well developed and the story follows along at a reasonable pace. I was unable to read this book in one sitting and was able to pick right up where I left off.

This is the first book in a two book series and I am very much looking forward to seeing what comes next for Charlotte Cooper.

Before I begin with the review, I feel I must advise readers that this book may contain triggers for some, as it deals with poverty, child abuse, drug abuse, and sexual abuse.
That being said, it's also a story about love, friendship, and surviving life. It left me an emotional wreck. I still have tears when I think of everything these characters, especially Charlotte, go through. Sadly, its all too real for many. I anxiously await the sequel, as I need to know more.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, despite the tears and heartache, and only give it 4 stars, instead of 5, because there were some slow-moving areas of the story. That did get better, as the story developed. I would recommend this story to anyone who wants an emotional connection to characters.

Charlotte had one heck of a life. There are only a few people who know her whole story. Her best friend Joe being one of them. She does not open up to anyone. She does not look for her happy ending because she doesn't feel that there is one for her. Then she gets a new job and meets Andrew. They become friends and she knows he wants more but she does not want to lose that friendship. Even being friends she still keeps her secrets from him. She doesn't want him tainted by her past and walking away from her. Until Something happens and he doesn't let up until she finally tells him. Their relationship goes to a whole new level after that until life gets in the way.

Andrew was drawn to Charlotte from the beginning and no matter how much he tried to get her to take their relationship past friendship she wouldn't. He had to sit back as her friend and watch her go out with other guys and watch the aftermath of a horrible act against her. When he finally got her to break down her walls and let him in he was over the moon. But he was in school and school work was demanding which took a lot of his time. One summer he commits an almost unforgiveable act in Charlottes eyes. When he can't give her an answer to an important question she turns to Jack. An older man who gives her the time and attention that Andrew could not.

This was an Amazing book. I gave it 4 Hearts instead of the 5+ that I really wanted to give it due to an editing issue that I could not overlook. With that aside. This book was very emotional, riveting and pretty amazing. The author took some of the most horrible situation that could happen to a young child and a woman and showed the true strength and courage that a survivor of such horrendous acts can be. I was brought to tears a few times through this book. My heart ached for the awful things that the character had gone through. I have three daughters and as I read this I had the thought that it would kill me if my children ever suffered anywhere near the pain and suffering that this character did. But I would hope that if myself or my children ever went through some of the situations that this character did that we would have half of the strength that she did. The end definitely left me wanting more and I can't wait for the next book! This book has situations involving Child Abuse and Rape and if you cannot read books with those situations then this is not the book for you. However if you can read books with those situations and look past the awful horrendous acts to look at the whole picture then I definitely recommend reading this.

Learning to Love

Please be ADVISED before reading this book it may have some valid triggers. So PLEASE if you have a prejudice viewpoint regarding child abuse, drug use, or sexual assault that you cannot set aside while reading a fictional story, then please STOP reading and find another book. It would be unreasonable & unfair to the author if you read and then rated their work poorly based on personal feelings instead of the fictional work the author has produced to tell a story. If you do decide to continue reading, HAPPY READING!
I just finished reading this, man talk about a royal emotional roller coaster. This story leaves my stomach in a tangled mess and a ball of tears. Charlotte has had an extremely rough and ragged life from the day she was born. She has some tough issues and decisions to make, and as life goes, it doesn’t only effect her life. RUN AWAY CHARLOTTE tells the story of her younger years up until she’s 21. I canNOT wait to read ASK ME AGAIN to find out what happens next in her life. This is my first H.M. Shander book, but I enjoyed the flow of the writing, how the storyline and characters flowed seamlessly together without issue. This story deals with child abuse, drug use, sexual assault and those that stand beside the survivors. It’s a very strong story to read, I smiled, laughed, was frustrated as all get up, and yet I bawled my eyes out as well (good, bad and sad tears). This story could end as is, but I’m glad to read what’s to come, but I’m nervous also to see what’s next in Charlotte’s life. I received an ARC via Tasty Book Tours through Smashwords in exchange for an honest blog tour review. Due to sexual situations, this book is recommended for readers 17 and older!

This is book one of a two book series.

Run Away Charlotte is a beautifully written book about a girl you will have a hard time forgetting. Her story is tragic but also triumphant as she slowly learns to trust and allow herself to be truly loved.

When it comes to childhood upbrings, Charlotte’s is horrific. She grows up in poverty with an abusive mother that will do whatever she needs to in order to get her next fix. Dirty and poor girls are not popular in school and Charlotte spends her first years as an outcast with no friends. That all changes when a new family moves to town and a little boy becomes Charlotte’s first friend. She is introduced to his loving family and his big brother Joe, who becomes her protector and life-long BFF.

Despite her upbringing Charlotte perseveres and lands a job at a science center where she meets Andrew. Andrew is smart and witty and they are instantly taken with one another. Thier relationship takes off but Charlotte is hesitant to truly trust someone with her past and her heart. When Andrew goes away for the summer and returns not feeling the same way as Charlotte, she decides to look for someone who will give her everything she needs.

Jack is older and successful and offers Charlotte the whole package. Will Charlotte pick Jack or Andrew for her future? Read Run Away Charlotte (The Courting of Charlotte Cooper Book 1) to find out. Enjoy!

I received a complimentary e-copy of Run Away Charlotte in exchange for an honest review.

My heart broke time and time again for Charlotte from the first page right until the last page. No child should ever have to suffer through their childhood as she did and those circumstances have all impacted her happiness and her relationships ever since. I personally don't agree with all of her decisions but then again, I haven't lived her life.

Andrew was an interesting guy who also had issues with letting people too close - and unfortunately his issues were a huge roadblock for them that Charlotte and he struggled to overcome.

There were a few things in the book that I struggled with - mostly the way that Charlotte wavered between calling Andrew 'Drew' or 'Andrew'. there never seemed to be any consistency on why she sometimes called him by one name vs the other. And also something that was revealed at the beginning was revealed again in a flashback 3/4 of the way through only to have that revelation completely overlooked again and seemingly forgotten about by the end of the book.

That being said, I am invested enough in the characters of Charlotte and Andrew enough that I will be keeping my eye out for book #2.

Run Away Charlotte is the precursor to Ask Me Again, which I received from the author in exchange for a review, and I loved it so much that I bought this one.

It was interesting to see how Charlotte and Andrew came to meet and be together, and how much they meant to each other. You could definitely tell they were in love from the start in Ask Me Again but I got to see every little detail that was alluded to in it. Having read the previous book I couldn't help shouting "No, no, stay away from Jack!" the first time they met.

While this book was really good, I feel like the author hit her stride with the second book. I could tell that she learned a lot more about pacing by that time, and there were parts in Run Away Charlotte where the pace lagged. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it, just that I felt that Ask Me Again had worked out some of the kinks.

That being said, when there was excitement or something big happening to Charlotte (so much happened to poor Charlotte!), the pages seemed to turn themselves and I had a hard time putting it down.

I highly recommend both of H.M. Shander's books. While you don't have to have read this one to understand and follow the second, I do recommend you read them in order so you can fully appreciate Andrew and Charlotte's love.

OMG - I just <3 loved <3 this book. A friend of mine recommended it to me, and told me I wouldn't be able to put it down. She was right. I read it from cover to cover over an entire day and it was literally the best book I've read in a really long while.

There were some parts of the story where I wanted to smack Andrew up side the head and others where I wanted to do the same to Charlotte. Their characters were so well developed I'm sure I could pick them out on the street. Regardless, the ending brought out the tears, and I swear I cried through most of the ending. I couldn't help myself.

Such a great book. I'm eagerly waiting for the next one now.
If you love a good romance, don't hestitate to pick this up. You won't regret it.

Loved this story. Charlotte was fantastically frustrating and awesomely annoying at times, but that's what made her lovable. Charlotte was definitely a great character to read. She made you want to continue to see if she could learn to live life and become the person you want her to be. And Andrew - Andrew was totally amazing. He was patient and loving and the ideal perfect guy, until he wasn't. Both characters screwed things up and neither character knew how to get back to each other. I absolutely recommend this book!

Although " Run Away Charlotte " was out of my more usual genres of mystery or historical fiction, I enjoyed the book immensely ! It achieved what every good read should...when I wasn't sitting reading it, I would start thinking about the characters and want to get back to the book to find out what was going to happen next ! Terrific read !

A must read! Run Away Charlotte will pull you in and you won't want to put it down. You become so connected with Charlotte that you actually feel her pain and her joys. This book is so well-written and hear-wrenching. Bravo to HM Shander. Can't wait until book 2!

Run Away Charlotte captured my heart as I journeyed with the main character through her trials and triumphs. This tough and tender girl survives with her friendships to sustain her, and I very much enjoyed getting to know her.

This was a wonderful read how Charlotte and Andrew met. They stuggled with their own personal issues and also trying to make their relationship work. Charlotte was young and finding her own path in the world. It's a very emotional read with many highs and lows.
