I returned to Huckleberry Springs to start over with my name on a bakery and my past sealed up tighter than a mason jar. I plan to run my business, keep my history to myself, and ignore handsome flirts like local distillery owner and rancher, Cruz Foster.
Cruz might make me forget how to frost a cookie, but I’ve been taken in by guys like him before. When he turns up the charm, I punch his efforts down like a first proof of sourdough.
He backs off but continues being sweet. My car dies, and he’s there. I need a ride, and he’s there. I want to tell him that I miss the whiskey flirt with the lopsided smile, and he’s there with a sizzling kiss.
The real Cruz is even better than the one he shows everyone else. I fall harder for the guy who loves his family, works hard, and shares his troubled childhood with me. A man who fixes himself is my weakness
But secrets like mine don’t stay buried in small towns. If I don’t want Cruz sinking to the bottom with me faster than blueberries in cake batter, I need to break my heart and go back to minding my own business.
I remember Cruz from way back at the beginning of Bourbon Canyon. And I’m so glad he ( and hopefully his brother) got a happy ending. I just wanted to give him a hug. His backstory. Ugh.
Elodie: the towns pretty little baker I enjoyed the backstory mystery that revolves around her. We spent a lot of time at the bakery. And so happy to see Cruz bring her out of her shell/funk I mean she made him really work for it and play the long game tho.
Small town Distillery boys Friends to lovers Mutual pining
Another fantastic addition to the Foster House series. I adored Cruz and Elodie so dang much. I wanted to give them both hugs so much and was so happy they found each other. Both of their back stories were heartbreaking, but watching them fall in love despite their hangups made me swoon.
Cruz is an absolute consent king and I loved watching him traverse the black cat that was Elodie. He listened to her every request, even when she wasn't sure that was actually what she wanted. It was angsty and entertaining at times.
The spice was perfect. A little less than the first two books of the series because this was a muchhh slower burn.
The audio was fantastic. I loved Time Paige and Kelsey Navarro in this DUET narration, they did such a wonderful job bringing these characters to life. Thank you so much to Ear Candy Promotions for the advanced copy!
Walker Rose has done it again. She always has a way of writing the most swoon-worthy men that makes you fall in love for them and this little lovely small town romance! Elodie has secrets from her past that seem to make their way to the present....so OF COURSE Cruz will come in a save the day! Can't wait to continue this series!
Another thing I love is that her characters have the most unique and cute names! Elodie and Cruz are just so cute!
Just the word flirt was enough to make me sign up for this ARC.
The strongest part of the book is the banter between the main characters. Elodie brings attitude and confidence that make her fun to follow while Cruz leans into the classic charming but broody love interest energy. Their back and forth is playful and engaging at the start and the small-town setting adds a cosy backdrop that works well for a romance built on tension and proximity.
Where the story loses a bit of steam is once the emotional tension starts giving way to predictable romance beats. The conflict feels somewhat repetitive and the characters occasionally rely on familiar tropes instead of deeper development. What begins as sharp chemistry slowly softens into something a little more routine which makes the middle portion drag slightly.
That said it’s still a quick, entertaining read with a likable cast and a light atmosphere. If you enjoy banter heavy romances with a touch of small-town charm and low stakes drama, it definitely has its moments. I also didn't read the book before but was able to follow through this book.
Overall: a cute, flirty romance that’s enjoyable in the moment even if it doesn’t leave a lasting impression.
(Thank you to The Author Agency and the author for the eARC in exchange for a review. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own)
Thank you @earcandy promotions for the alcohol of this book.
Elodie and Cruz completely stole my heart. This story has all the cozy small-town charm I love. Elodie is back in town trying to start over with her bakery while keeping her past buried, and you can feel how badly she wants a quiet life where no one asks too many questions. She’s strong but carrying so much, and it made it really easy to root for her from the start.
Then there’s Cruz Foster, and wow… I’m a little obsessed. He starts off as the charming flirt with a ranch and a distillery, but the more you see of him the more layers there are. He’s patient, kind, and the way he shows up for Elodie without pushing her too hard just melted my heart. Their chemistry is fantastic, full of playful banter, tension, and that slow realization that what they have might be something real. I also loved all the baking and whiskey details throughout the story, it made the world feel so vivid.
🎧Audiobook Thoughts Duet Narration with Kelsey Navarro Foster and Tim Paige was pretty much perfect! These two took on Elodie and Cruz so well and really brought their romance to life.
💋friends to lovers 😍protective mmc 🥃baker x distiller 😉not-so-secret crush 🧁she has a past 🥵mutual yearning & pining
I’m still sitting here with the biggest goofy grin because Elodie and Cruz just completely stole my heart.
First of all… small town romance + bakery owner + whiskey-making rancher??? That combination alone had me hooked. The whole vibe of Huckleberry Springs feels cozy and warm and a little messy in the best way, like a kitchen that always smells like sugar and cinnamon but also has flour on literally every surface.
Elodie coming back to town trying to start over with her bakery and keep her past locked up tight hit me right in the feelings. She’s strong but also carrying so much, and you can feel how badly she wants a quiet life where no one digs too deep. And then along comes Cruz Foster… the walking, talking temptation with a distillery, a ranch, and that lopsided smile that would make anyone forget their own name.
Cruz though. CRUZ. I’m obsessed. The man starts off as the charming flirt but the more you see of him the more layers there are. He’s patient, he’s kind, he shows up when she needs him without pushing too hard. The car trouble scene? Him just being there? My heart basically melted into a puddle. And when he backs off because he thinks that’s what she needs but still quietly supports her?? Ugh. That kind of sweet devotion gets me every time.
Their chemistry is ridiculous in the best way. The banter, the tension, the slow falling… it felt natural and real and when they finally gave in to it I was kicking my feet like a teenager. And the emotional moments? The parts where Cruz shares his past and Elodie lets her guard down? So good. Those scenes hit hard because you really believe in them as people, not just characters.
Also the baking and whiskey details sprinkled through the story were perfection. I swear I could almost smell the cookies and the oak barrels while reading.
And then the secrets… because of course small towns never let secrets stay buried. Watching Elodie struggle with whether to protect Cruz by leaving or trust him with the truth absolutely wrecked me. My heart hurt for her because you could feel how much she loved him.
Honestly this book was cozy, emotional, romantic, and just straight up addictive. Elodie and Cruz are the kind of couple you root for so hard your chest hurts a little.
If you love small town romance, protective but sweet heroes, strong women trying to rebuild their lives, and chemistry that sparks like a match in a whiskey barrel… you need this book immediately. I loved every second and now I’m not ready to leave Huckleberry Springs. 💛🥃🍪📚
A Beauty of a Story & Listen🎧Engaging & Emotional!
Whiskey Flirt Foster House, Book 2 By: Walker Rose Narrated by: Kelsey Navarro Foster, Tim Paige
I enjoyed this book immensely, a romance novel with complex characters and intriguing storylines that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. Elodie left Huckleberry Springs to attend culinary school, and while she was gone, she got involved in things she is not proud of, things she never talks about, but she is back in town now running her own bakery. Cruz Foster did not have the best of lives growing up, and has done things to warrant a bad reputation, but he turned his life around and has redeemed himself to his family, friends, and people in the town. He has a crush on Elodie, but thinks she wants nothing to do with him or the like of him, thinks she deserves better, but that does not stop him from trying. Cruz runs the distillery with his brother and brings different liquors to Elodie to bake with, and I loved the scene when he first arrived with her order, a cute and hilarious scene. Elodie is super closed off, and he senses she has something going on, but he is a patient man, does not push her or give up on her. I thought these two were great together and for each other, but they both had issues and insecurities they needed to get past, and allow themselves to be loved, and see they were worthy of it. Cruz was a gem of a man, and the things he did for her were thoughtful and meaningful. I enjoyed the layers of the story and how they all played out, with the perfect balance of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, and a slow-burn, but so worth the wait romance. The writing, plot, and world-building are fantastic, as are the character depth, growth, and development. Walker Rose, thank you for this fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Kelsey Navarro Foster and Tim Paige deliver a fantastic performance voicing these characters, humanizing them with their personalities and emotions. I loved how they took each role and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound. Kelsey Navarro Foster nailed it as Elodie and was a natural in the role, and Tim Paige was just as fabulous in Cruz’s role, both embodying their characters completely. The performance by these talented and entertaining voice artists was captivating and took the story to new heights.
Whiskey Flirt by Walker Rose is a messy, heartwarming, small-town romance with a delicious slow burn, pretty much everything I love in a story.
Elodie is the owner of the local bakery, doing everything she can to keep her business afloat and the bills paid. But behind her determination is a secret she’s determined to handle on her own. The pain from past mistakes keeps her guarded, and at times it truly broke my heart watching how much she carries alone.
Cruz, the town’s broken cowboy turned whiskey maker, has been drawn to Elodie for years. He’s known around town for being a relentless flirt, but it quickly becomes clear that the charm and teasing are a bit of armor hiding a deeper heart. The best part? Elodie sees straight through it and refuses to fall for the act.
What makes their relationship so compelling is the slow, steady way it develops. Cruz doesn’t push Elodie or try to force her to open up. Instead, he’s quietly present, showing up, supporting her, and building a friendship rooted in shared past pain and growing trust.
Cruz knows he wants more with Elodie, but the real question becomes whether Elodie can trust him with her truth… or if she’ll convince herself that leaving him is the only way to protect him.
I absolutely loved these two together. Their emotional connection, the patience of the slow burn, and the warmth of the small-town setting made this such an enjoyable read. The premise of this series is fantastic, and I’m really excited to continue with the next books.
This was another beautiful story in the Foster House Series! I have been falling in love with this series and these amazing characters. Walker Rose is always making sure I'm smiling and swooning while listening to her books.
The narrators Kelsey Navarro Foster & Tim Paige did a fantastic job telling Elodie & Cruz's story. They held my attention and kept me entertained while I was listening to this book. I love how they made me feel a connection to the characters as well.
Cruz was such a great character. He might have been known as a flirt but this man only had eyes for one girl and that was Elodie! Cruz has some baggage from his past but he is a better person because of his past. I love how much he cared for Elodie and would protect and fight for her no matter what.
Elodie is one stubborn woman!! She has baggage as well and she wants to do everything herself and not ask for help from anyone. But once Cruz finds out there is no stopping him from coming to her rescue. These two have such great chemistry and I just loved how their relationship blossomed.
I had so many moments that I was smiling and giddy, some moments I got mad, but in the end I was left with a wonderful ending! I can't wait for the next book in this series! I HIGHLY recommend this book and series!
Thank you Walker Rose for allowing me to listen to this ALC for my honest opinion.
Tropes: Friends to Lovers Mutual Pining and Yearning Found Family Troubled Pasts Small Town Baker x Distiller
It’s so wonderful to be back with the Foster House family! I knew Cruz’s story would hit deep, and this one certainly did not disappoint.
Cruz has been pursuing Elodie for years, but she’s never given him the time of day. Just when he’s ready to give up, things begin to shift—perhaps for the better—by simply being her friend.
Elodie has mixed feelings about Cruz. She’s attracted to him, but his charming persona reminds her too much of the past she’s been trying to forget.
Their relationship, evolving from frienemies to friends to lovers, was truly beautiful. Cruz kept getting humbled over and over again—an entertaining sight—but he never gave up; he genuinely wanted to be there for her in any way he could.
Elodie, in turn, saw behind Cruz’s charming exterior and realized there was so much more to him—he was truly an incredible person.
These two were a perfect match in heaven! They are strong individuals, carrying past hurts they’re ashamed of and still feeling a bit broken. But together, they began to see that their past doesn’t have to define them anymore.
I loved watching both of them heal together, helping each other realize just how loved they are—not only by each other but also by their community. Their relationships with their siblings were especially wholesome and heartwarming.
The solution to Elodie’s problem was one I had anticipated, and I’m so glad Cruz finally faced his demons.
Walker Rose really knows how to write a romantic, spicy page-turner and I am obsessed with this series! So much mystery surrounds the back story of Elodie Palmer when she returns to her hometown of Huckleberry Springs, Montana to open her own bakery, Dee’s Sweets. Her parents and sister Clementine are loving and are respected members of the community, but Elodie left town for several years to attend culinary school.
Elodie immediately dismisses the romantic attention of Cruz Foster, one of the owners of Foster House Distillery. She thinks he’s just a flirt and not to be taken seriously. She hold off his advances for years and he is persistent. Cruz had a rough start in life, and it impacts his self-esteem in ways that are hidden to others. He continues to do sweet and supportive things for Elodie and does not give up on her when she pushes him away.
As Elodie’s past catches up to her in ways that become more and more concerning, she begins to trust and open her heart to Cruz. Watching the romance slowly unfold between these two with the backdrop of danger is so exciting. Their chemistry is HOT! I will never look at frosting the same way… I can’t wait to see Cruz’s brother, Lane Foster, and his friend Haven Hennessy, get their own stories soon. And please, give Clementine Palmer her own story too! This is book 2 in the Foster House series, and it can be read as a standalone.
ALC Review: Duet Narration by Kelsey Navarro Foster and Tim Paige
Tropes: Friends to Lovers Distiller rancher X Baker Small-town Protective MMC Guarded FMC Slow burn
Elodie returns to Huckleberry Springs determined to rebuild her life with her new bakery and keep her painful past tightly sealed. The last thing she needs is a distraction—especially one that looks like local distillery owner and rancher Cruz Foster. Cruz is absolutely swoon—he has this not-so-subtle crush on Elodie, and watching him try (and fail) to hide it is pure magic. What starts as playful flirting deepens into something tender as Cruz shows her the steady, genuine man behind the charm. But in a small town, secrets rarely stay buried, and Elodie must decide whether protecting her heart is worth losing something real.
Kelsey Navarro Foster brings emotional nuance and vulnerability to Elodie, perfectly capturing her guarded strength and quiet longing. Tim Paige delivers Cruz with warmth, steady confidence, and just enough playful flirtation to make every scene sparkle. His performance makes Cruz’s devotion and quiet depth feel incredibly authentic. Together, their chemistry feels natural and immersive, making it easy to fall into Huckleberry Springs.
Huge thanks to Ear Candy Promos and the author for this ALC.
Cruz and Elodie's story! I was so excited to read this; Cruz has been a background favorite of mine since the Bourbon Canyon series (which is a series you should absolutely read as well!).
Something that I always admire about Walker Rose's writing is that she addresses traumas in a sensitive way, and I always see things from a new perspective I hadn't considered previously.
And, are you looking for a green flag? Cruz honors the boundaries that Elodie sets like any person should, but he also shows up in a respectful manner when she needs help. He gives her time and space to figure her own crap out, and it doesn't take her long to miss his special smiles.
Elodie is full of walls and baggage, but the way that we learn about her past gives us special insight on why she won't ask for help. There is a lot of shame surrounding these two adults, and once they get over their own insecurities and give a little faith and trust in the other, great things happen.
There is so much here to enjoy. My favorite? Land lots of banter. There's also respect, accountability, learning to trust again, and oh - did I mention the spice? I didn't think of this as a slow burn; I was satisfied with the level of spiciness we got (hint, it was GOOD).
I urge anyone and everyone who is in need of a heartwarming read to pick this up.
Thank you so much to the author for giving me the opportunity to read and review Whiskey Flirt with my honest thoughts and opinions prior to publication.
Walker Rose writes my favourite cowboy romances and Whiskey Flirt is definitely no exception. Although this one has a smaller focus on the actual ranch work, this couple may have the best chemistry yet. Elodie is a baker running from her past and she tries to hide things so her family doesn’t worry about her, and as someone with “eldest daughter syndrome” this hit pretty hard. Cruz has his own struggles with his tough childhood but got taken in by Mae and is now a literally sweetheart. She sees in as a flirt (duh it’s the name of the book), but truly he doesn’t actually go out with many people, and has been pining after her for a couple of years now. When he sees that the flirting clearly isn’t working he switches to a more supportive approach, as he’s determined to prove to her that he is trustworthy. Honestly Cruz is covered in green flags and I loved him so much. Their romance was so fun, lots of fluff as he tries to earn her trust, but also some fun spicy “fvck it” moments when she can’t hold herself back anymore. Yes there’s a minor third act breakup bit, but honestly it set up for literally the most adorable but also very emotional act of grovelling ever so I’m not even mad about it. The characters went through lots of development, Elodie especially, and the ending was so beautiful. I can’t wait to see what’s next in the Foster House series! I give this a 4.5/5
This was a cute book and one i enjoyed. Cruz is part owner of a whiskey distillery and has had a crush on Elodie, the town’s bakery owner, for years. Elodie is closed off, with good reason, but finally gives Cruz a chance.
I loved that despite Cruz’s reputation as a flirt he wasn’t a player. It was sweet that his interest in Elodie kept him from seeing other people, despite her rejection of him for so long. Elodie is facing a threat but keeping that to herself and won’t tell anyone about it. That frustrated me at times, she was just so stubborn and wouldn’t open herself up to anyone, even when Cruz told her about his not so great past. I get that she didn’t want to worry anyone, but there is only so much one person can do. I was so happy Cruz didn’t give up on her and supported her the whole time. Overall their relationship was really sweet, and their spicy times were hot.
Walker writes really good stories that have heart and interesting characters. I read the first book in the series and plan to read the rest when they come out. I want to thank The Author Agency for the copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to leave a review.
Whiskey Flirt is the second book in the Foster House series focusing on Cruz and Elodie. Cruz is part owner in Foster House Gold located in Huckleberry Springs, Montana. Cruz has had a thing for the quiet town baker, Elodie, for a long time and, after some bumps, finally gets her to take a chance on him.
Cruz has quite a bit of baggage from his childhood but he has become a true cowboy gentleman and reading his internal dialogue of him fighting his insecurities just makes me love him more. Cruz has definitely made Mae Bailey proud!
Elodie was harder for me to love with her holding on tight to her secrets and not trusting Cruz after he shows her what a great guy he is over and over again. Elodie has been through a lot and is just trying to keep her bakery open and her secrets hidden. I wished she would have opened up sooner, but Elodie grew a lot and ended up getting her happy ending.
I highly recommend reading Whiskey Flirt especially if you are caught up on all of Walker Rose's books so you can fully appreciate Cruz's growth! If you have not read the others, pick up Bourbon Bachelor, the first book in the Bourbon Canyon series, and start binging!
Whiskey Flirt Foster House, Book 2 By: Walker Rose Narrated by: Kelsey Navarro Foster, Tim Paige
Elodie and Cruz. It's their turn to find love. But it's not easy. Elodie owns the local bakery and has no interest in finding love. Cruz has had a crush on Elodie forever, and finally sees a chance to worm his way into her heart. Patience is the key, and if bringing her the different liquor flavors from his distillery to bake with is what he needs to do to win her over, he is all in. The question is why is she so closed off, and will Cruz ever think he is truly worthy of Elodie. This is a fabulous listen. It's sweet and spicy, it's friendly and jealous, and it's pretentious and passionate. I loved getting to know these two, their backgrounds, what made them who they are and loved where they are going. It's a great addition to the series and a fun listen.
Kelsey Navarro-Foster and Tim Paige have been a favorite team of mine and when I saw they were narrating together here, I knew I was in for a treat. Navarro is the hesitant, closed off Elodie just trying to find her way. The trust and love that Cruz gives her lets Navarro-Foster build her feelings. Paige uses his talent with a patience and caring that fills Elodie's heart. Loved this narration and the book.
What do you do with the flirty cowboy you can’t stop thinking about?
Whiskey Flirt is the second book in the Foster House series and has all the things you love about a Walker Rose story - fun, heat, and family.
Elodie has a secret she won’t tell, and a cowboy that she can’t get rid of….. even if she actually wanted to. Cruz has wanted Elodie since he first saw her and has tried for years to get her to open up, but when he thinks he has finally pushed to much, he promises to stop his flirting and try to be her friend.
Elodie is the black cat to Cruz’s golden retriever, and they are the perfect mix. Both have pasts they aren’t proud of, both do some epic pining over the other, and both want to protect the other person at all costs. Together they bring fun, banter, and heat to the story. They are both wonderful characters that will break your heart with their past and mend it again as they fall.
To me, the best background theme in any novel from Rose’s series is the found family storyline, and this one does not disappoint. From the residents in Huckleberry Springs to your favorites from Bourbon Canyon, the theme of family, support, and love are on full display.
If you’re the type that falls for a flirty cowboy or a sassy baker, Whiskey Flirt is your next read.
There’s just something about a small-town cowboy who has been quietly holding a torch for years, and Cruz Foster absolutely had me swooning. This man has been hanging onto his feelings for his “little baker” for so long, and seeing that devotion finally come to life was one of my favourite parts of the story.
Cruz is attentive, patient, and fiercely protective in the best way. He’s the kind of MMC who shows up when it counts, even when it means pushing past his own limits to protect Elodie. And honestly? That level of loyalty and care is exactly what I want in a book boyfriend.
Elodie is trying to start fresh and build something of her own, but the past has a way of catching up in small towns. Watching her navigate that while slowly letting Cruz in created such a sweet emotional tension throughout the story.
Whiskey Flirt delivers a heartfelt small-town romance with a protective cowboy, long-held feelings, and a love story that’s been quietly waiting its moment. And Cruz Foster? Definitely the kind of man you want in your corner.
Thank you to The Author Agency and Walker Rose for the eARC of Whiskey Flirt.
This book was all about how a character's past doesn’t define them. I truly adored Cruz and Elodie, both had past trauma that they were trying so hard to overcome. They were so deserving of each other and their HEA was a slow burn but a welcome one 🩷
Cruz Foster 😍 I am so obsessed with him. He’s naturally flirty but he isn’t a player. He cares so much about what people think of him. Learning about his past broke my heart, I just wanted to hug him and never let go.
He is a sweetheart, and has a massive crush on Elodie. So much so that he hasn’t been with anyone else in the hopes that Elodie will just look at him as more than the whiskey distillery guy.
Cruz listened to every request Elodie made, even when she wasn’t sure what she wanted. I love how he backed off and became her friend, despite wanting her SO BADLY. He would rather have any part of her rather than nothing at all.
Elodie is such a hard worker, trying to right the wrongs of her past. She gives off major black cat vibes because she’s struggling to tell anyone the truth of her past and the fact that she’s being blackmailed.
Together, Cruz and Elodie are amazing. I loved their story.
There is no OW drama, no cheating, but a small third-act breakup. It’s resolved quite quickly and doesn’t give too much reader anxiety.
Thank you to the author agency and Walker for the ARC.
Once again Author Walker Rose manages to have me in all my feels! These characters have been through so much in their lives and finding each other is just what they both needed to thrive. This FMC, she's strong, independent, but has enough baggage for the entire town of Huckleberry Springs. Despite her everything she works hard and bakes even harder to prove her worth and try to right her wrongs. The MMC, is a tall drink of cowboy...he has a past but has worked so hard and has managed to turn his life around. He's a hard worker and is loyal to his family....but he's even more devoted to this sweet little closed off baker that he just can't seem to get enough of! These two are so sweet together...the banter. The tension. The push and pull. And lawd are they HOT together... like stay out of the kitchen HOT! Seriously I love how we not only get these new couples and their love stories, but also we get pop-ins from our other favorite characters. This little found family is just one of my favorites and I cannot wait to see what comes next!
This one was so needed after the last book in this series and witnessing Cruz long for Elodie while she kept distance between them. That carries into this book, and we learn the why's of her barriers and come to sympathize with her. We learn about Cruz's past, which will absolutely break your heart, and come to appreciate the man he has become all the more. These two compliment each other so well and are so darn cute together.
The suspense storyline that takes place in this one will have you on the edge of your seat. I really enjoyed how it was handled, and especially how it was rectified. It was an interesting twist of taking something negative and utilizing it for something good. This series has been so good so far, and I look forward to what comes next!
I listened to this one on audiobook and really enjoyed it. Both narrators did a great job and for these characters really well. They did really well in making sure emotions were expressed just right to make this book all the more empactful. Highly recommend!
This is book 2 in Rose's Foster House series. A great addition to the series that can easily be read / listened as a standalone. I loved our main characters Cruz and Elodie who are beautifully narrated by the talents of Tim Paige and Kelsey Navarro Foster. First, I'd like to say what a great job these two narrators did in bringing our characters to life and being able to add the emotion of each character and situation. Next, I'd like to paise Rose for delivering a well written and smooth flowing storyline. While Elodie's character felt a bit wishie washy I love how these two came together and the insecurity between them as their relationship is so new and how trust was hard won but makes it all worth it. Rose delivers great balance of sweet romance, steamy chemistry and some humor to lighten some seriousness. Overall, a wonderful listen and I'm eager for more in this series and from the author!
This book was given to me for free at my request thanks to Ear Candy Promos and I voluntarily provided this review. *this review is based on the audio version of this read.
When I say I ate this up, I’m not even exaggerating... I had this bad boy 60% done in one sitting. I was hooked.
This is my second book by Walker Rose, and can we just talk about her MMCs for a second? Because they are PEAK male goodness. Cruz Foster? Elite. Top tier. The standard. The yearning in this man had me unwell. Watching him quietly pine and patiently wait for his lil baker to lower those sky-high walls? Inject it directly into my veins.
I loved the softness under his charm. The hard worker, the guy who’s done the work to fix himself. That emotional depth? Delicious. If the rest of the men in the adjacent series are written this well, I need to go back and binge immediately because I am clearly missing out on a full-course meal.
The pacing was bang on. Satisfying....much like how I would imagine Elodie’s baked goods taste. I was locked in, fully invested, absolutely turning pages.
I cannot wait to see what Walker Rose serves up next. Thank you to the author for an early copy. All opinions are my own.
I read an ARC of Whiskey Flirt, a small-town romance that follows Cruz—who readers may remember from earlier stories—and Elodie, the town’s talented baker.
Cruz’s charm is obvious from the start. He takes every opportunity to flirt with Elodie, and their playful banter is one of the highlights of the story. What begins as light, friendly teasing slowly grows into something deeper as their relationship develops. Elodie is a confident, independent heroine, and it was enjoyable watching her dynamic with Cruz evolve.
There’s also a bit of conflict, which adds some tension as their story unfolds. I did find myself a little more attached to Cruz as a character, likely because we’ve already met him in previous books, but it was still nice to see their journey together.
Overall, this was a solid small-town romance—quick, engaging, and filled with a cast of likeable characters. I had a good time reading it. I’ll definitely be tuning in to follow along with Lane’s story next.
Thank you Walker Rose for allowing me to review this book. All opinions are my own.
This was such a beautiful addition to the Foster House series. It definitely leaned more emotional and a bit more serious, with less spice than Whiskey Bargain, but honestly it was a refreshing change of pace. And Cruz and Elodie? I adored them so stinkin’ much it hurt.
Both of them carry such heavy, painful pasts, and you can really feel how deeply those wounds shaped them. They’re two tortured souls who deserved love more than anyone, and there were so many moments where I just wanted to wrap them both up in the biggest hug. Hearing their stories absolutely broke my heart, but watching them slowly fall in love despite everything had me completely swooning.
And Cruz? That man falls hard and he falls first. Meanwhile Elodie is not having any of it in the beginning, which makes this such a delicious slow burn. Watching him quietly show up for her..listening, caring, doting on her in the softest ways, was unbelievably sweet and had my heart melting the entire time.
I’m already counting down the days until we get more from this series.
Small town charm, whiskey-soaked flirting, and a hero who proves that sometimes the sweetest love stories start with a little stubborn resistance.
Whiskey Flirt completely pulled me into Huckleberry Springs and didn’t let go. I loved watching Cruz slowly break down the walls around a heroine who came to town determined to keep her past buried and focus only on her bakery and fresh start. But Cruz Foster? He’s the kind of man who shows up when you need him—car trouble, bad days, and all the moments in between—and that quiet persistence was impossible not to fall for.
What I adored most was how their relationship built through the small things: lingering looks, teasing flirting, and the way Cruz never stopped showing up even when she tried to push him away. Beneath the swoony moments, this story also had a lot of heart—two people carrying painful pasts and slowly learning that maybe love is worth the risk.
And Cruz? The perfect mix of charming whiskey flirt and deeply loyal family man. The more layers we got of him, the harder it was not to root for these two.

I loved Cruz and Elodie's story. I was drawn into this from the first few chapters and did not want to put this book down. These main characters I definitely have got to say are something special. They both have a past that wasn't easy. I really liked seeing the growth within these characters throughout the story. And the narrative is beautifully written. I loved the small town romance vibes in this. It is like one of my favorite tropes and this author does it very well. Another thing that I liked about this story was how it came across with such a realness to it. The banter was so, so good too. This had me all up in my feels. An absolute must read. This is an amazing story.
Favorite line: "I might be a flirt, Elodie, but I only ever say what I mean. There was a time I didn’t. I've worked hard to be a good man, and I'd like to show you."
Thanks to the author and the author agency for a copy of this. All my opinions are my own and freely expressed.
Friends to lovers Protective mmc Baker x distiller Not-so-secret crush Mutual yearning & pining Dual POV - 1st person
Duet narration - Tim Paige & Kelsey Navarro Foster These two were great together. I love Kelsey she has such a great voice. Tim is a joy to listen to.
Ok, Who doesn't love a friends to lovers trope? These characters are so darn cute. I really love them. This series by Walker Rose is easy to listen to with loveable characters. Oh, and the spice? Its delicious!
Cruz and Elodie are adorable. Cruz has a reputation as a big flirt yet he is not a playboy. He has such a good heart. Elodie has a past that still sticks with her. Cruz tries so hard to be there for her and she finally lets him in and he becomes a big support for her.
Overall, this book is full of heart, emotions, and fantastic spice. Waker Rose books are always a joy to read.
