Horror with humor is one of my guilty pleasures. I loved this story and its monsters, the mystery was great but the banter was better. I want more from these guys! Gene and Marty are wonderful but I especially love Vic... his moat and the gators.... pure gold!
I received a copy in exchange for my honest review.
mystery with werewolves, vampires, and Marty, who's a mummy.
Seriously though, I had a lot of fun reading this book. While simply just the introduction to what I'm assuming is going to be a series, the mystery aspect is there, but barely. This book felt like more of a way to get a feel for our MC and his unusual roommates, with their first mystery being almost like an afterthought.
The story definitely caught my attention pretty quickly and was able to hold it consistently. It's a lot lighter than Sam's other works, but I feel like it's a good break from the gore and weight of the horror I've found myself reading more and more of lately.
Would I classify this as horror? Not even a little bit. It absolutely falls into the Urban Fantasy realm and that's right up my ally. I love a good Urban Fantasy. Maybe this is Sam's hand at branching out from horror, I dunno. Either way I'm here for it and I'm looking forward to seeing what The Midnight Breakfast Club gets into next.
Glen is a werewolf his roommates are a vampire and a mummy. Monsters are accepted but watched. There are break in happening the evidence points to a werewolf. Glen is determined to find the culprit. Who is responsible for the robberies. Can the trio find out. Humor filled story with delightful characters and suspense.
An absolute masterpiece of a story. The story is so good it pulled me effortlessly along. It’s not often you find this mix of humor, horror and comedy so satisfyingly well written. I tore through this book like a werewolf through a flock of sheep. I was truly disappointed when I finished the book and realized I was done. I need more stories with Gene, Vic and Marty.
This is one of my first books by Sam and it was perfect! I’m not a huge horror book fan and I know that is Sam’s main genre, but I saw him post this book on his Facebook page and instantly added it to my “Want to Read” list! This book met all of my expectations. I found myself laughing through most of the book with the roommates and their daily banter and loved that there was a mystery involved. I can’t wait for the second book to come out!
I just couldn’t stop reading this book! Not only was the banter between the characters hilarious but I also thought the storyline was very well executed. I would just like to say I feel Vic’s idea of a moat was a very useful idea!
