With the tarnished raiders driven back, Effy wrestles with guilt at the lives she took. Seeking clarity, she journeys to the cold rainforest of Reth, to learn the way of peace from the secretive Goni. And she goes hunting stronger venom.
Captured by the enemy, Kite languishes in a cage. He is weak, hungry, and alone—but he has not given up. A fire burns within him, and it grows stronger each day. He vows to break free of his cage, and when he does, the tarnished raiders will learn they have invited a viper into their nest.
Two outcasts, separated by hundreds of miles of ocean, both with the same goals—Ferth must remain a free county. The tarnished raiders must be defeated.

I'm only halfway through but my goodness am I hooked! Though it's been a year since I read the first book (Venomborn), stepping into this fantasy world was like stepping into a country pub and seeing your old friends again. We got to explore Ferth County in the first book and now the world has opened up even more, and it's chock full of interesting new characters, dangerous creatures (and I don't just mean the venom monsters) and brand new, unexplored lands.
This book picks up exactly where the first book ends so I didn't feel like I'd missed a thing. Who could forget that epic battle at Witkeep at the end of book one, and our main characters, Kite and Effy certainly can't escape the consequences and fallout of that heroism. I can hardly put this down, and if it wasn't for pesky adult tasks, I'd happily be glued to reading it all night long.
