A compelling new novel by the well-loved author of A Lovely illusion and Starting Over; A young solicitor specialising in family law, Lindsey Abercrombie is asked by cosmetics millionairess Ursula Guyler to assess a girl who may possibly be Ursula's daughter, abducted 17 years ago. Lindsey finds Phyllis a difficult and abrasive character; so she acts as buffer between her and Ursula. Ursula refuses to believe her sweet three-year-old could have turned into this aggressive stranger. Eighteen months of difficulties disrupt Lindsey's love life and her career, but ultimately she resolves both Ursula's problems and her own.

I enjoyed reading this story of a young lawyer who is asked to find out if a young woman is actually the daughter of a wealthy business woman and her husband. The girl was kidnapped at 3 and is 19 or 20 when she comes forward to meet the people she thinks are her real parents. She has been raised in a poor, rough environment and dresses in black with heavy makeup so the business woman doesn't see any resemblance at all to the sweet 3 year old that was kidnapped. The rest of the book is the development of the young woman and her relationship with the lawyer. Good read.
