From coast to coast on a motorbike...on the trail of the people, places and events that created Scottish history. Covering moor, mountain and battleground as well as film locations and place names, this book provides an intelligent, passionate perspective on key landmarks and their significance to Scotland today. From the Vikings to the Picts, from Ossian to Bannockburn, Ross guides us on a quest to discover the essentials of Scottish history - and to find things we never knew existed.
David Robertson Ross was a patriotic Scot who loved his country and its people. He was passionate about the rich tapestry of Scottish history. David was a writer and historian who specialised in the great Scottish hero, Sir William Wallace. Although Wallace and the Wallace Society took up a great deal of David's time, he still managed to write about Scotland and her historical past with poignancy and a touch of humour.
Scotland's history chronologically this time with new material and some mentioned in "Desire Lines", but once more I totally enjoyed this book which can double as a travel guide. He mentions Nigel Tranter as the author who inspired him to go searching for Scottish history. I picked up my first Nigel Tranter historical novels in 1982 on my first trip to Scotland and must say I agree with this David R. Ross. Tranter was a wonderful writer as was David R. Ross
