This volume, the third of the four-volume Handbook of Special Education, is an indispensable reference work which examines the research base, broadly defined to represent current knowledge that can be used in formulating plans to improve the chances of schooling success for all students, particularly those with special needs. This latter category includes students with physical, behavioral or disadvantaged backgrounds and those with chronic low achievement or who otherwise can be considered academically at risk. The Handbook contains nine major topic areas, three of which are dealt with in this volume - Education of Deaf Children and Youth, Education of Visually Handicapped Children and Youth, and Handicapped Infants.
