A fake relationship with the Wolves’ star goalie might be the realest thing she’s ever known.

Lyla Wayne had it all—popularity, football quarterback boyfriend, and a packed social calendar. But after tragedy flips her world upside down, she finds herself on the outside of everything she once knew. Isolated, spiraling, and desperate for a fresh start, the last thing she expects is Wyatt Scott.

Wyatt isn’t just the top goalie in college hockey—he’s steady, loyal, and has been quietly nursing a broken heart over Lyla, the girl who’s always been just out of reach. So when a fake relationship with his longtime crush offers a shot at something real, he doesn’t hesitate to play along… even if it risks everything.

Can they turn pretend into something real and finally write the love story that never had a chance to start, or will it all fall apart before the final buzzer?

For fans of The Deal by Elle Kennedy and Icebreaker by Hannah Grace, Deking is an emotional, slow-burn college sports romance you won’t want to miss. Grab your copy—your next Walker Wolves favorite is waiting.

I could not put this book down! If sleep wasn’t a necessity I would have finished this in one sitting. I’m so glad we finally have Wyatt’s story. As usually for this series the found family was super strong throughout the book and finally Wyatt was the one to have the favor returned with his friends helping him and giving him advice. I’m obsessed with the slow relationship build up between Wyatt and Lyla. It was absolutely perfect for them considering how they met and their “history”. This book had me laughing, crying, awe-ing. Just all the vibes wrapped into one.

I’m so sad that this series is over. By far this is one of my favorite college series and found family series. It’s just done so perfectly. How do I read this whole series again for the first time?!?!

🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒

I love Wyatt. Sorry Lyla, but he is my favourite Wolves hockey player in this series. I was so excited for his book, and as always, these authors did not disappoint! One of my favourite tropes is fake dating, so I was eager for it!

Wyatt is a phenomenal friend, as seen in previous books, but he was always quietly reserved, and we only caught glimpses of his personality. He has such a gentle nature, and as he starts coming out of his shell more after spending time with Lyla, his circle embraces the change, and they love it.

Lyla is such a sweetheart, doing everything she can to stay a good university student while also acting as a full-time caregiver alongside her brother for their father with dementia. I loved seeing her relationship with her brother and dad.

Cala Riley gives us such real, heartwarming, and heartbreaking stories filled with found family, and the conclusion to the Wolves storyline was perfect.

Get ready to have Wyatt make you swoon.

What a journey. I absolutely adored Wyatt and Lyla. The angst, the mixed signals, the romance, all keeps you hooked and wanting more more more.

The way he loved her just made me all gooey inside. I loved the bond they make, and the bonds with the hockey family, it felt so special.

This is an emotional read. And i loved it all

I received an ARC for my honest opinion.

First off, the moment I found out this book was going to be about Wyatt, I knew I needed to read it. By the end of the first book, I was already convinced that his story would show him as one of the absolute best book boyfriends ever, and I was not disappointed. I will admit that I didn’t read books 2 through 4 yet, but that honestly didn’t take away from my experience. This series works well as standalones, though I can already tell I’ll be going back to read the others soon.

In this story we get to follow Lyla and Wyatt, and their journey was everything I hoped it would be. Wyatt has known about Lyla since the first time they met, and he never truly forgot about her. He simply waited for the right moment, and when her relationship with her ex finally ended, he stepped in without hesitation. The fake dating setup was such a fun and engaging trope. It gave them both something they needed, Lyla gets help keeping her persistent ex at a distance, while Wyatt finally has a chance to spend real time with the girl he’s always wanted. And of course, the possibility of fake turning into real made the entire story even more exciting.

What really made this book stand out for me was how well the author allowed readers to truly get to know Wyatt. His loyalty, patience, and protective nature were impossible not to fall in love with. The pacing felt steady and natural, and as I got closer to the end, I found myself not wanting the story to be over.

The chemistry between Lyla and Wyatt was another huge highlight. Their banter felt genuine, their emotional connection developed in a believable way, and I loved watching their friendship slowly grow into something deeper. There were moments where their vulnerability really shined, especially as they opened up about their struggles, responsibilities, and fears. I will admit there were a few times when this book had me tearing up. Wyatt being the steady support Lyla needed, especially as she dealt with her father’s dementia and the lingering grief from losing parents at a young age, was handled in such a heartfelt and thoughtful way.

At the same time, the romance brought plenty of swoony moments. Their tension, attraction, and emotional bond created a relationship that felt both comforting and exciting. I definitely found myself fanning my face more than once.

Overall, this was an emotional, heartwarming, and engaging hockey romance that delivered on so many levels. If you enjoy tropes like he falls first, fake dating, protective heroes, found family, and slow-burn chemistry, this is absolutely a book you should pick up. I am already looking forward to reading more in the Walker University series.

I would like to thank HamBright for the opportunity to review this book.

Deking: A fake move on the ice… and a fake relationship that becomes achingly real off it.

As we say a final goodbye to the Walker University Series, Deking proves why this is a five-star, must-read hockey romance series. Five books that have delivered every single time — starting strong and finishing on an even bigger emotional high. 🏒💙

The title is perfect. In hockey, deking is the art of the fake — a move designed to fool your opponent. And that’s exactly what happens here with a fake dating, he’s-always-had-a-crush-on-her romance that might sound familiar on the surface… but Cala Riley makes it completely their own.

Lyla Wayne seems to have it all — college life, a quarterback boyfriend, the picture-perfect future. But when you pull back the layers, reality looks very different. Lyla and her brother are quietly carrying the heavy responsibility of caring for their father who is living with Dementia, and the emotional weight of that shines through every page.

When her boyfriend shows his true colours and Lyla’s world flips upside down, step forward Wyatt Scott, the quiet, steady hockey goalie who has been crushing on Lyla from the sidelines for far longer than anyone realises. When the chance comes to fake date, Wyatt steps in.

And honestly? He will steal your heart. ❤️

Wyatt isn’t just the swoony goalie — he’s the shoulder Lyla needs, the strength she leans on, and the calm presence when life feels overwhelming. The scenes between Wyatt and Lyla’s dad are some of the most emotional in the book; tender moments that will absolutely bring a tear to your eye.

Watching the chemistry between Lyla and Wyatt grow is the cherry on top of an already heartfelt story. Their happily ever after isn’t an easy road, but when Wyatt is the one holding Lyla’s hand through it all, you know it’s going to be worth every step.

Cala Riley have once again absolutely nailed it — a perfect emotional finale to a truly special hockey romance series.

If you are looking for a sports romance with fake dating and true found family, this is the book for you. Deking is book 5 in an interconnected standalone series, Walker University, by Cala Riley. Firstly, I would like to thank Cala Riley for giving me an ARC. Importantly, this may contain triggering content, so please check the trigger/ content warnings.

Deking was absolutely an amazing story that was so addicting, I read it in less than 24 hours and could not put it down. As it is an interconnected standalone series, you don't need to read the other books before; it is recommended. It did not feel like I needed to read the other books before this one; it has its own story and plot. Each part and trope was written so well, especially for each character and their story. The plot and certain events had me shocked, and other parts had me emotional. There is so much about this story that I love. I highly recommend you read this book, and while you wait for release day, why not read the other 4 books in the series?

Wyatt and Layla's relationship and story were written so well and show how a woman should be treated by a man. One thing I do have to say, I am glad Layla and her ex-boyfriend separated, he is a piece of trash and many other things I can't say. Even though they are fake-dating, it felt more like they were actually dating the whole time. Layla was my favourite character. I loved how much strength she had for what she was going through, and many other things that I don't want to spoil. Seeing her character growth was amazing, and watching the found family aspect for her was amazing, seeing her become herself more. Wyatt was amazing. I loved how much pining and yearning for Layla there is, and how he treats her so much better than her ex. He was so supportive of her and helped her when she needed. There is so much I could talk about but I highly recommend reading this book and pick it up on release day (24/03/2026). Happy reading.

I cried. Full on blubber baby tears because Wyatt Scott is the kind of man that every girl needs her in her life, especially one such as Lyla.

Cala & Riley have truly out done themselves with this book. So much goodness has already come from the wolves... but to have this team, this family of trust and love expanded, as we go on the journey of their grumpy goalie getting his girl is WONDERFUL.

Those moments where you read and your whole body just leans in closer to the pages because you just have to know what happens next...yeah I had about 407 of those moments while reading.

Lyla is one of the most developed female main characters I have read in a while. Not just her own journey being believable as she goes about life, but her growth and her emotions along the way as she navigates her relationship with wyatt.

He Falls First
Fake Dating
Hockey Sports Romance
Found Family
Parent with Dementia
Deals with Grief
Slow Burn

Wyatt is a fiercely protective an grumpy goalie in all sense of the words. However he is also sweet, thoughtful, and has a soul for romance like you wouldn't believe. The moments Wyatt has with Lyla's dad melt my little icy heart and make me believe in love.

I read a lot of sports romance, and I gotta tell you Wyatt Scott is hands down one of my favorite males I have come across. He is genuine in a way that is so easily overlooked in life nowadays let alone in college sports.

There are way too many Kyle's in the world and I am definitely a Wyatt girl. *wink wink*😉

I highly recommend diving into the world that Cala and Riley have created, not just with this book but with their others as well. These besties sure know how to write a good love story.

I received an ARC from Hambright PR and the authors and I am beyond grateful. This is my honest review and opinions and if you have read any of this series before I would love to compare notes with you. Are you a Wyatt girlie like me?

Everyone likes a mix of sweet and savory. Too much of one thing is never a good thing. While I find that most hockey romances lean on the savory side, Cala Riley has locked down the sweet side. Here is yet another heartwarming story about a hockey stud and a darling good girl, juggling life, love and of course, hockey.

Lyla Wayne is one of the lucky ones. Now in her freshman year and Walker U, she’s dating the starting quarterback and has a loving dad and brother at home. Three years later, when her father becomes sick and her boyfriend is anything but supportive, she finds herself crying at a party, humiliated and wishing she was anywhere but there. In comes Wyatt Scott, star goalie for the hockey team, to save the day. After helping her leave the party with some dignity (and popularity), he offers up a classic fake dating scenario: she’ll save him from the ever determined puck bunnies and he’ll make her ex jealous. Little does Lyla know, Wyatt has been pining for her since freshman year and sees this as the opportunity to win her heart. Months of hand holding, adorable dates, evenings with her dad and swoon worthy kisses are making her wonder if this is really fake at all. But the hard times for Lyla aren’t over and it’s up to her if she wants to let Wyatt continue to be there for her or let him go.

I loved the first book I read by the Cala Riley duo. It was incredibly innocent and adorable and this one is no different. Like the other, this one has minimal spice (maybe like 2-3 scenes max) but it’s so sweet that it’ll rot your teeth out. Also has the found family effect that I just cannot get enough of. Highly recommend this precious love story.

This was my very first hockey romance and I enjoyed it! Wyatt was such a sweet mmc who has been pining after Lyla for years, and when he sees his chance to show her who he is, he jumps on it with a fake dating plan to keep her protected from her jerk ex.

I loved how Lyla was able to see that she deserved way better than her ex and her crappy friends, and the found family she gained with Wyatt’s friends was so sweet. I absolutely adored her relationship she formed with Cora and the girls, I got teary when they showed up for her on her doorstep for a night in, and how they supported her and her needs with her dad.

Wyatt’s and Lyla’s relationship starts out slowly as her feelings turn real, and he was so patient and sweet with her and always gave her the space she needed to figure things out.

I also really loved her relationship with her brother and her dad. It was so heartwarming to see their bond. Her father’s dementia also added another layer to this book that gave her depth and showed her’s and her brother’s kind and selfless hearts.

My only thing that I struggled with in this book is that there were a lot of side character names thrown in and it was hard to keep track of all of them. I know that if I had read other books in this series, it would probably be so great to see all of these cameos, but as someone new to the series, it was hard to follow along at some points.

Thank you Hambright PR and the authors for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I want to say I have loved all the hockey stories Cala Riley have given us, Clayton is still my favorite guy, but man Wyatt was like my friend make room at that top spot. Wyatt has always been our quiet goalie. Sitting back and observing his friends as they not only find love but being the solid support, they all need. It is when he needs support, everyone shows up for him. This story pulls at your heartstrings in ways I wasn’t ready for. Yet it lends so much to both of our characters as we see Wyatt’s gentle nature as well as Lyla being the true caregiver. We start with their college freshman year and progress to senior year when life should be one of the best. Trying to figure out what the next step is after graduation. It isn’t that simple for Lyla and when Wyatt gets a chance to be with Lyla, he takes it. There is not a moment when you don’t see how much he wants her and in return how she sees that she has been missing out on so many things. You definitely need to take your time with this story as there are moments that you don’t want to miss. We get a true conclusion to our Wolves which includes spending time with our former guys and their leading ladies. You feel like you are being wrapped up in a giant hug while catching up and trading stories. Beautifully written as always.

Love is patient, love is kind.
Wyatt Scott is the loyal, quiet, talented hockey goalie of the Walker Wolves willing to do anything for his friends. He fell in love with Lyla at first sight, but was too shy to ask her out.
Lyla is the dedicated friend, daughter and sister, who sacrifices her personal life to take care of her dementia-diagnosed father.
When Wyatt sees the opportunity to spend time with Lyla and show her how he truly feels and how much he cares, he takes it and suggests a fake relationship.
From the very first second, their fake dating arrangement feels more real than expected and their connection like a gravitational force, but her father’s health and her persistent ex are some obstacles in the way of turning it into something permanent.
Deking is another amazing story by Cala Riley. The fake-dating, slow burn romance tropes will make you sob and laugh, cry and smile and you will love every minute of it.
It is a story of love at first sight, of self-sacrifice, of altruism and generosity, of found family, of never giving up on the ones you love.
Cala Riley gives us a story with depth, spice, sweet and funny moments and tear-jerking scenes. A love story that shows that supporting, taking care of and uplifting the ones you love is all that matters.
Thank you for the ARC.

I am sad to see this series come to an end; however, I feel Cala and Riley have left the best for last in the Walker University series. Each book has been a joy to read, but Deking owns my heart. These two talented authors always deliver a story filled with friendship, laughter, and love, with a twist or two, and Deking fits into that fold. Deking is a fake relationship, he falls first but she never knew. It's a love story that will captivate your full attention.
We are told the story of Wyatt and the woman who has owned his heart but he never got to call her his girlfriend, Lyla. For years, he pined for her while focusing on his hockey. Lyla's life was not one where she could have fun while in college, but she carried the weight of the world on her shoulders. When her world shattered, he was there to pick up the pieces by offering to be her fake boyfriend. Talk about the perfect way to spend time with the woman he has always wanted. They say that fake relationships are just the gateway to the true love that lies beneath the surface.
I loved how Wyatt embraced her life and everything involved in it. He put her needs and her happiness first. Talk about a swoon-worthy man who loves with his whole heart. Lyla is a strong and independent woman who took on the world and found love along the way.

This hockey romance is a slow-burn fake-dating story while they're in college. I swooned hard while reading this book! It's honestly so sweet!

Wyatt has been obsessed with Lyla since freshman year of college. He was too shy then and missed his chance. Lyla has been dating a complete jerk for three years while she and her brother have been taking care of their dad who has dementia. Cue being in the right place at the right time, and Wyatt suggests fake dating to Lyla to help each other out.

Lyla is the girl who puts everyone before herself. She's trying her absolute best to take care of her dad. The poor girl has no life between college and caring for her dad. Wyatt is the sweetest guy ever! He'll do anything to see Lyla smile. He gets her to start doing things and having fun. They bring out the best in each other.

As someone who helped care for my grandpa who had dementia a couple of years ago and watched him slowly deteriorate, this book did an amazing job at capturing the toll it takes on the caregivers/family. It was very well done and brought tears to my eyes a few times. This book is full of sweetness, a bit of spice, found family, amazing side characters, hockey, and has the perfect ending!

I've never read anything by this author until this book, which I found out is part of a series. But it's hockey romance and well, duh.

During freshman year, college hockey player Wyatt spotted Lyla and it was all over. He knew she was going to eventually be his. But, he chickened out and didn't ask her on a date then. Lyla immediately started dating the quarterback of the football team and remains in a relationship until their senior year, when Wyatt sees an opening and snags it. The two can fake date so he can ease her into something with him and she can help him keep the puck bunnies away. But it's never fake for him. And the more time he spends with Lyla, the more he realizes she's exactly the one for him. But with her family situation, will she ever really give him a chance?

The dementia piece in this hit hard. It's a terrible disease that took both of my grandparents. Lyla's dad having it was so hard for his kids to manage. I couldn't get over how wonderful Wyatt was in this. Just a freaking model boyfriend. 🚨 Potential spoiler alert: I was really hoping to have the piece about him asking for her father's permission to come into play in the end and was a little disappointed at how abruptly it felt like it ended.

🏒 Fake dating the hockey star who’s secretly been in love with you for years? Yes please.

She’s just been dumped by her boyfriend… and he’s the senior hockey star who has secretly been pining for her for years. When the two decide to start fake dating, you can probably guess where things might lead—but the journey there is so much fun.

This is the third book I’ve read by this author, and once again I really enjoyed the characters and their story. I especially loved Lyla and the way she cares for her dad—there was such a sweet, heartfelt element to that part of the story.

And Wyatt? He’s basically the boyfriend we all wish we had. Loving, kind, hardworking, and absolutely crazy about Lyla. He would do anything for her, and watching her slowly fall for him after coming out of a three-year relationship with someone who never truly showed up for her made their romance even more satisfying.

Deking is a super sweet hockey romance with a slow burn, a little bit of spice, and plenty of heart—and it’s definitely worth the wait.
Make sure to check this one out on its release date: March 24! 🏒📚

a huge thank you to Hambright PR for this e-arc!

i don't know what to say about this one. it was okay? im aware i came in in the middle of the series but i still feel like romance books should hold on their own, now i felt the whole book that I'm missing something huge from the backstory.

we jump right in, right into the mmc already having a crush on the fmc before they even first meet in this book. and then we jump forward in time and he's been pining after her all those years. I don't know. i guess i wanted to read more about the yearning and the getting together. even though this is supposed to be a fake dating book, there's no yearning and no chemistry, no those we shouldn't do this, this is fake moments. basically the chemistry between the main couple is zero and we are just supposed to feel like they're falling in love.

the side characters carried this book for me! they and their dynamic was the most interesting part, because the pov characters didn't really bring anything to the table for me. Which is sad because I usually really enjoy college hockey romances, but this book was somehow missing all the great things of both of those aspects.

i may want to read Emery's book but otherwise i think this is it for this series for me.

Wyatt is an absolute top-tier book boyfriend. 😍 The “quietly obsessed for years but too shy to act on it” trope is already swoony, but pairing that with fake dating and him just wanting to see Lyla happy? That’s peak romance material.
What really makes it hit harder is Lyla’s situation. Taking care of a parent with Dementia while trying to juggle college and a relationship is a lot. Characters like Lyla—who give everything to everyone else—always make the romance feel deeper because when someone finally shows up for them, it’s so satisfying to watch.
Wyatt stepping in and:
giving her a break from all the responsibility
encouraging her to actually live a little
doing whatever it takes to make her smile
…that’s the kind of acts-of-service hero that I fall hard for. The fake dating lets him finally do all the boyfriend things he’s been wanting to do since freshman year. 🥹
And I love that they bring out the best in each other—those relationships where the characters help each other grow always feel the most real and rewarding.
Honestly, between the long-time crush + fake dating + caretaker heroine, made this a really emotional and swoony story.

I love a good sports romance, and the latest installment in the Walker University series, Deking by Cala Riley, definitely did not disappoint.

This book follows a star hockey goalie and the girl who almost got away, and their story had me hooked from the beginning. There’s something about a second-chance romance that just hits differently, and this one delivered all the emotions. Watching these two navigate their history, the lingering feelings between them, and the chance to finally get things right made their story really satisfying to read.

The chemistry between the characters was great, and the slow build of the romance kept me turning pages. Add in the hockey setting and the fake dating element, and it made for a really fun and engaging story. I picked this one up thinking I’d read a few chapters and ended up finishing it in one evening because I simply couldn’t put it down.

If you enjoy sports romances with heart, great chemistry, and a little bit of emotional tension, this one is definitely worth picking up.

Tropes you’ll find:
• Fake dating
• Hockey romance
• Second chance
• Slow burn

I think this is just a hockey romance account now. 😅 I’ll stop reading them when they stop enticing me so much. They just sound so damn good!

“Deking” by Cala Riley was my first book by the author. Thank you to @hambright_pr for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Lyla has her world turned upside down during what should have been the most fun times of her life - college. Her dad gets sick, and she and her brother become his primary caretakers. Unfortunately her useless POS boyfriend, Kyle, has no grace or empathy in his sad little brain, and breaks up with her for what he believes is an upgrade. Major Jerk. You know the type.

Wyatt, who has been smitten with Lyla for years, swoops in to make the most of what he thinks may be his only chance. Strike when the timing is right!

This book was super easy to read in a day at 290 pages. The pace is quick. The dialogue flows easily. I had everything I need to keep quickly tapping to the next page. I loved how determined Wyatt was to win over Lyla. He just had that athletic mindset of determination and grit - failure wasn’t really an option!

I’d love to claim Wyatt as my book boyfriend but knowing he only had eyes for Lyla makes me realize it wouldn’t work out between us lol

I love a sports romance and I especially love a hockey romance. The longing in this book! That boy had it bad 🤣 he is the sweetest MMC. The prologue is adorable. It set up the book so well and left a little grin on my face. Our FMC is dealing with some heavy stuff and he’s an amazing support for her. Found family relationships are so beautiful to read sometimes and this one was no exception. It really was a sweet story.

Deking is book 5 in a series, but I didn’t know that going into it. While I didn’t know right away who the other characters were, it didn’t affect the reading too much. I would recommend reading the rest of the series first though, just to get the full experience.

This book has explicitly language and 🌶️ spice. Spice is easy to skip over. Scenes in chapters 16, 20, 24, 29 + innuendos throughout. The writing flows well, minus some choppy dialogue that’s just a bit too formal sounding for college athletes. Overall, a very cute hockey romance.

This is an ARC review.

Thank you to Cala Riley for sharing. I LOVED this story!! With the exception of Kyle. I did not like him one bit. But was glad he got his in the end. He was seriously delusional, though the interactions with him and Lyla were hysterical. He really was clueless. Wyatt is the boyfriend every girl deserves. Despite losing his parents early, he was surrounded most of his life by friends who became his family. The bond between each and every one of them was just amazing to see. Regardless of what was going on in their own lives they supported each other 100%. Lyla's family was her brother and father. She was not used to having friends like Wyatt had. Once she started to realize the people in her life really were not who they said they were and she was welcomed into Wyatt's group, she truly blossomed. The writing was great, I honestly loved it so much I tore through the book in just 2 days. I couldn't stop reading. I wanted to jump in and be a part of their family too.

Thank you Cala Riley and Hambright PR for the eARC of Deking. I read Iced, the Walker University Wolves first book. When I requested Deking, I had no idea that it is actually book 5. Now I need to go back and read the other books that I skipped over. I absolutely love this series. Wyatt Scott is all green flags. Wyatt is the goalie for the Walker Wolves hocket team. He's been in love with Lyla since Freshman year, but she has spent the last 3 years dating the star football player. When they break up, Wyatt makes his move and gets Lyla to agree to a fake relationship to help him keep the female fans away from him. Except, this is anything but fake for Wyatt. Lyla, on the other hand, is trying to finish nursing school and care for her sick father. Lyla starts to fall for Wyatt, but she worries that it's just fake, and that he's going to get drafted and move away. These books are such a fun, easy read. I enjoyed every second of it - except the part that made me cry. I also enjoy the epilogues to see a glimpse into the future.

Deking by Cala Riley is a steamy and suspenseful hockey romance that delivers intense on-ice action, off-ice obsession, and sizzling chemistry with Riley's signature dark edge. The story follows a fierce heroine pulled into the orbit of a brooding pro hockey player—think slick dekes, forbidden heat, and high-stakes drama where their explosive connection battles secrets and danger. Riley's gritty pacing amps up the tension with raw passion and emotional pull that kept me hooked.

I loved the hero's possessive alpha vibes softening into devotion, the heroine's bold spirit matching his intensity, and their push-pull dynamic leading to scorching, heartfelt moments amid rink rivalries and personal stakes.

While hockey obsession tropes feel familiar, Riley's thrilling suspense and steamy payoff make it addictive. Overall, I’m giving Deking four stars. It’s a gripping, spicy read perfect for fans of sports romances with grit and swoon.

Wyatt & Lyla's story
First off this book gives you all the feelings, the crying, the sadness, the love, the perfect bedroom scenes & happiness. This is one of my favorites of Cala Riley's books for sure!

Wyatt met Lyla when they were both Freshmans. He knew then, thats who he wanted to spend his life with. Lyla had only talked to Wyatt 1 time freshman year before she started dating Kyle (football player). Fast forward to their Senior year. Lyla dad's dementia is getting worse, Kyle can't stand her never having time anymore. They break up and he starts making out with a cheerleader. Wyatt sees Lyla crying about it at one of their Hockey Team Parties and comes up with an amazing fake dating proposal. Helps her get back at Kyle and gets Wyatt her.

What started off as a fake relationship quickly turned into real feelings. Both were scared the other didn't feel the same way. And in true Cala Riley fashion, the book ends with a wedding!

I’ve read most of the books in this series, and with every new one my heart melts a little more for the MMC who always seems to have the biggest heart. And Deking was no exception. Wyatt is the kind of hero every girl dreams of: kind, fun, lovable, considerate, a talented athlete, and completely devoted. He would do anything for Lyla, even when she’s a little oblivious and lost in her own world. What I loved most is that, for Wyatt, their relationship was never really fake. He was all in from the start and determined to make it real, even when Lyla had doubts. Lyla’s journey is emotional, with some drama involving her ex and the tragedy with her father that changed her life, but it’s comforting to see her have someone truly caring by her side. Fast-paced, entertaining, a little steamy, and very swoony; a sweet, satisfying read where everyone gets what they deserve in the end. Recommended!

I must say I am sad that I just finished the fifth and final book of the Walker University Hockey series. It was a really good ride.

onto the book

Wyatt Scott is loyal, sweet, and shy, and he would do about anything for the people he cares for.
He’s fallen in love with Lyla freshman year and waited three years for her. Lyla is an amazing sister and daughter who gave up a normal college experience to help take care of her dad, who has been diagnosed with dementia. So when her boyfriend of three years, dumps her because she’s not always available to hang out with or to go to his football games, keeps bugging her, Wyatt sees an opportunity to get close by proposing to fake date her to keep her ex-boyfriend away. But is it even fake for him ...

Wyatt Scott is an ideal boyfriend for Lyla. She needs someone to take care of her since she’s always busy taking care of others. Lyla is great for Wyatt because being around her makes him smile more, talk more, and his friends can see it.

Stop it right now this hockey novel is without question a 5⭐️ read from me.

Deking by @author.cala.riley is an unputdownable read. It had me smiling, melting, crying and much more. All the emotions were played with.
The MMC and the FMC are absolutely adorable and who doesn't love a golden retriever 😍
The rest of main characters in the squad/family work really well together.
This is a curl up and spend a couple of hours immersed in the lives of Lyla and Wyatt

BLURB:
A fake relationship with the Wolves' star goalie might be the realest thing she's ever known. Lyla Wayne had it all
—popularity, football quarterback boyfriend, and a packed social calendar. But after tragedy flips her world upside down, she finds herself on the outside of everything she once knew. Isolated, spiraling, and desperate for a fresh start, the last thing she expects is Wyatt Scott. Wyatt isn't just the top goalie in college hockey-he's steady, loyal, and has been quietly nursing a broken heart over Lyla, the girl who's always been just out of reach. So when a fake relationship with his longtime crush offers a shot at something real, he doesn't hesitate to play along... even if it risks evervthing.

Goalie Wyatt has quietly been my favourite for some time already, we finally get his HEA in book 5 of the Walker University series. Obsessed since freshman year, Wyatt finally sees his chance to get the girl, and it really is a last ditch attempt, because now they are in Senior year. Lyla has a lot on her plate, dealing with her family, college and a crappy ex who never deserved her 3 years on him. Wow, he was a piece of work! Wyatt though, has been admiring from afar and steps right up to the plate to share her load at the first opportunity. He is all the green flags, ask anyone!! It’s a slow burn and such a refreshing read to have a MMC who is emotionally mature for his age.. like I said, all the green flags! He’s understated, supportive and protective all in one and everything Lyla needs - loved everything about this book!

I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy of this book provided by the author. The opinions expressed are my own.

Thank you to Hambright PR for providing me with an advanced copy of Deking! This started out as a bit cheesy but who doesn’t love a good cheesy romance every once in awhile. And what started out as a cliche transformed into a beautiful story of love, loss, grief, and self discovery. I read the first book in this series last year and then this one but i definitely will be going back and visiting the books in between after devouring this one within a day. I adored Wyatt even though he may be the most unrealistic man to exist🤭 Lyla was sweet, headstrong, and so intuitive you couldn’t help but root for her and for her and Wyatt. The inclusion of dementia in this story was both heartbreaking and enlightening as you really get to see how this disease affects an entire family. Still can’t decide if Wyatt being obsessed with her for years after only meeting her twice is endearing or creepy lol but it was overall a cute hockey romance with the found family trope that we all know and love.

The way I absolutely flew through this book and couldn’t put it down! I’m a sucker for fake dating and college romance (especially when there’s a hockey player involved!!!) and this one completely delivered.

I loved how completely gone Wyatt was for Lyla from the very beginning. Watching him fall first and fall hard and then bide his time was so fun to read. The chaotic found family within the hockey team was another highlight for me. Their dynamic added so much humor and heart, and I loved how they all rallied around each other—especially Lyla.

And can we talk about Lyla upgrading from her absolute slug of an ex? So satisfying.

The slow burn in this story was a little painful at times (in the best way), but the payoff was so worth it. Wyatt and Lyla’s relationship was sweet and totally had me rooting for them the whole time.

I’m officially hooked and can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
