When the snowstorm of the decade grinds Atlanta to a halt, it traps three young women in situations that could lead to heartbreak instead of frostbite.
Katherine Sutton must choose between freezing by the side of the road and taking shelter in a former lover’s home. When she sees the changes Charlie McAndrew has made to his life, she wonders what woman could have gotten this perpetual Peter Pan to finally grow up.
Emma Lawrence, attorney-at-law, is snowed in at work with only her hunky paralegal for company. She’s spent many billable hours lusting after Jonas King, even though office policy and a secret past keep her from acting on her atop-the-desk fantasies. When Emma finally lets her heart overrule her head, she finds herself with more than water cooler gossip to worry about.
Rhyan Kilpatrick reluctantly offers shelter to her best-friend’s younger brother, the A-list celebrity Ethan Sutton. The last thing she wants is to be snowed in with the well-known party boy, even if he is panty-melting hot. But when Rhyan sees beneath the superficial role he plays to the hilt, she wishes for more than one snowy night together.
Is it love that pushes these three women to take risks? Or can they blame it on the snow?
Part One: Katherine & Charlie Katherine had a long term relationship with Charlie. Then it ended. Charlie was in the Peter Pan stage of his life. Early thirties and unwilling to grow up. But when the snow forces her to take shelter for the night, Charlie isn’t going to allow her to turn him down. And in getting her to say yes, show her just how much he changed.
I was torn. It wasn’t that I did not like the writing, it was more of the theme of the story. Now, I get that this is fantasy. But there was something about this particular short story that bugged me. We all read about heroes that find the girl that changes their lives... but this one just felt off. I think it came down to Katherine’s attitude. She dumped the guy, but was not over him. All he had to do was show that he could clean his bathroom and boom, she was all in. It feeds into the idea that women can change men. Part Two: Emma & Jonas Emma has kept her past a secret. The image of all things respectable and professional. When she is snowed in at the office with Jonas, her paralegal, things heat up when he makes his play. Emma’s one to play by the rules, but sometimes the rules are meant to be broken.
There was a lot of Emma’s past infused into a short story. Things that normally can endear you to a character, if the time existed to really delve into the story. Unfortunately with such limited time – these things just became facts to check off. I felt a slight pull towards Jonas more so than Charlie (or Ethan who came later). I think his character if expanded would be the typical hero that I tend to lean towards.
Part Three: Rhyan & Ethan Ethan always had a crush on his sister’s best friend but it took growing up for Rhyan to see him for anything more than the annoying little brother that drove them crazy. When he shows up at her doorstep for the night, an agreement to give into their desires, for one night, is reached. The only problem... one night isn’t enough. Especially when Rhyan wakes up the next morning as he’s heading out of the door.
This was just a little off for me. There was a lot of time giving some details of Rhyan’s life that it took away from the time that these two could have shown more of a connection. It’s difficult because the balance is difficult between giving the reader a story and condensing it into a tiny package.
In the end, I think I learned something about what I like and don’t like. I am not a fan of these short stories. I need more. I either need a full story that gives you all angels or I need short story that gets to the point of the interaction and works as if it’s just a glimpse in time, rather than trying to fit too much in. They were all wrapped up with little neat bows as well. Each one getting their own insta-love-hea; now for Katherine and Charlie, that was somewhat feasible... but for the other two it was far more farfetched that after one night, undying love would be spilling from their lips.
This was a contemporary romance in style. There wasn’t anything too steamy and some fade to black sexual moments where I think a little more was needed to close out the scene. For those that enjoy a quick, sweet fix of romance – this is right up your alley. For me, I personally need just a bit more.
This book is short, cute, and sexy, perfect for a quick afternoon read. I enjoyed reading the three separate couples' stories as they were all different enough to keep me interested. Although the love was a little too cutesy for me, I would have been down to read these stories in a full length book. I could use a little more Ethan. ;)
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thanks!!
Great story and reminds me that Atlanta is due for another snow storm. Let's see if more romance can be kindled this time around. If it does, we can "Blame it on the Snow"
