Pirates! Mages! WLW! I swoon 😍

This is enemies-allies-uhmmm- done elegantly!

For a shorter book, the world building was enough to understand what was happening and why, the plot clear. The magic element is new to me, intriguing and curious. The slowly developing romance has slow burning tension and I ate it up!

There’s a dual POV that caught me off guard! It’s written third person with no chapter titles so… surprise!!! It’s like a cut-scene in a movie to give you a tiny perspective of what’s happening elsewhere, not poorly done!

You know that moment, when everything is reaching its peak, and you’re tense and you can’t read fast enough? But for the MC it’s like time slows, nothing and everything is happening and you want to scream at them to move?! Yah. That part. Gripping. Like a chokehold you welcome and are trying to escape from at the same time. Breathe.

To be continued??

Thank you to StoryOrigin for the gifted eARC!

In a world of mages and pirates—where each mage carries a soul tied directly to their magic—A Soul Made of Thunder is a creative and overall enjoyable read. The story follows Thea, a powerful mage caught between a group of soldiers and a band of pirates who despise mages—led by a pirate captain driven by revenge. The pirate–mage dynamic and soul-based magic system make for a strong and imaginative fantasy setting.

The worldbuilding and fantasy concepts are imaginative and lay the foundation for an interesting story.

Since I received this as an ARC, I want to be fully transparent. While I enjoyed the story, the pacing and structure felt a bit uneven at times. Some sections moved so quickly that details became hard to track, while others lingered longer than necessary. The magic system is fairly straightforward and the lore becomes clearer as the plot progresses, but I occasionally struggled to fully connect with the characters, which made certain emotional beats feel less impactful than they could have been.

The enemies-to-lovers tension was one of the highlights for me. That said, as a slow-burn reader, I would have loved a bit more buildup before the romance progressed.

Overall, I stayed engaged and interested, but I think a slightly longer page count would have helped the worldbuilding and character arcs feel more fully developed.

Thank you StoryOrigin for providing a complimentary copy for review. All opinions are my own.
A Soul Made of Thunder is a world of various landscapes, soldiers, pirates and mages.
I want to thank Alexandra Marco for inputting “infinitesimally” into the book. While I could assume what it meant, I’d never heard it used or seen it before, and it compelled me to look up the definition. Thank you for challenging and refreshing my vocabulary!
A Soul Made of Thunder had good world-building! I’ve read a few books where the entire first book in a series is all world-building and, while I love an immersive read, it can feel like a bit much and be hard to follow along.
There were a few editing errors here and there in the book, but it did not slow down the reading; it simply required maybe a quick second glance before you could move right along.
I did feel like maybe this book could have been a bit longer…the journey and few more things happening along the way could have brought a little more to the book, for me personally. I wasn’t sure what to expect, as I had signed up to do an ARC review, but this book pleasantly surprised me with its story.

I did enjoy reading this. The magic/soul system is unique and I’ve never seen anything like it before. The romance between Thea and Fyn is sweet, but I believe a bit rushed/underdeveloped. I do like that they're two sides of the same coin based on their beliefs. I wanted to see more of Evelyn and Thea, they have a more interesting dynamic in my opinion.

I wish that Evelyn was more explored as a character and I wish Thea did more for Evelyn, she was doing way more for Fyn despite the fact that Evelyn used to be one of her closest friends.

I do think there should have been more done with the Elders who were doing terrible things, I feel like they got away with it.

I love the souls a lot. They all had great personalities and learning about the souls and the Chasm where they derive from is very interesting as well.

Thank you Alexandra Marco for writing this book and BookSirens for providing me a copy!

A story of swords, souls and sorcery.

I felt like I was watching a movie, a really entertaining movie about powerful mages, destructive pirates, a very evil, vengeful and powerful foe.

Though the ending was a little bittersweet, it was all in all a thrilling story full of action, adventure and gripping suspense, and of friendships and love lost and a side dose of sapphic romance.

Though like everything else, there are a few annoying snags and some poor plot execution, it did not negate the overall enjoyment I got from reading this book.

A Soul Made of Thunder is a fantasy set in a world of mages and pirates. The FMC, Thea, is a mage forced to work alongside Flyn, a Red Guard sworn to hunt her kind. When a ruthless pirate threatens to destroy both of their worlds, they must set aside their hatred to survive. What I loved most was the enemies-to-lovers tension as both characters battle their inner conflicts and slowly give in to the undeniable desire burning between them.

I received an advanced copy to review.

First, I feel the author has an amazing imagination and with a bit of work, this could be a 5 star. I however struggled to get into the book in the beginning because the plot felt disconnected.

There were a lot of descriptions in the story that didn’t make any sense. But the general idea of this book is great. The characters were relatable. Just the plot gets lost.

Wonderful! I liked the magic system with the souls- pretty simple, and it made sense without being explained in great detail, just used within the story. It's a little hard to say without spoiling, but the end battle with Thea and You'll Know Who was SO great! The ending after that felt a little underwhelming, though. Overall, I did really enjoy this book and am looking forward to more from this author!

The world build was absolutely incredible! Also the FMC was a badass and so inspiring. I also loved how the inner conflict between the FMC n MMC was so good. Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes. I would 10/10 recommend!
