Solved!: The "mysterious" Disappearance Of Jim Thompson, The Legendary Thai Silk King

Rate this book
The mysterious circumstances surrounding Jim Thompson’s disappearance in Malaysia sparked off what was to become a seven-year investigation. The subsequent media attention generated by the search triggered a number of theories, some proving to have rather sinister connotations. In this intriguing book, the author seeks to evaluate most, if not all, of the speculative, and partially substantiated opinions which have been formed over the years. Communist conspiracy, suicide or simple misadventure? Only after reading this amazing story are we in a position to decide.

I was really interested in the Jim Thompson’s disappearance so I was excited when I found this book in a hostel nowhere else but Cameron Highlands :)
It gives you a lot of interesting facts, but to me is badly written. There is not much of a suspense, you get the answer half way through and you don’t feel like the mystery unfolds any further. I also think that writing “Solved” in a title is an exaggeration, if not a clickbait! Yes, there is some reason in believing the theory that author proposes but there is not enough evidence to claim that the case is solved, in my opinion.
On top of that, the language is tiring and too opinionated. Often I felt like the story is artificially stretched to fill more pages.
Anyhow, I can tell that a lot of work was put into research about the subject which I appreciate a lot, but the writing and storytelling could have been much better.

What a story - a fun read with lots of twists and turns - hard to believe this is nonfiction.
