Pride Jameson arrived in Whistle Pass uncertain she was doing the right thing by agreeing to marry a man sight unseen. He hadn't sent her a likeness of him, but she sent hers so he would know what she looked like when she disembarked from the train. When she arrived and stepped down from the train, an ape of man grabbed her. She fought him, only to find out he was the man she agreed to marry. He was filthy and stunk to high heaven. She had to escape.
When someone yelled at Nick that a lady stole his horse, he hightailed it out of town to get his horse back. When he saw the woman with copper hair riding like the wind on his stallion, he was amazed that his horse even let her on his back. He whistled, knowing the horse he was on wasn't capable of catching up, and his horse threw the woman off its back. He dismounted and ran to her, hoping she wasn't hurt. When he gazed into her green eyes, and heard her story, he knew he had to help her. No woman in her right mind would marry Hog Billard who was meaner than a rattler and lived by his own rules. Hog would be out for revenge.
This is a sweet little love story. Short but good. This is my first book by Cia Leah. I wanted more from the story. Maybe when I read one of her other books it will feel more completed.
When Pride Jameson leaves home to become a mail order bride in order to get away from her demanding sister in law but when she realizes that she has been lied to by her intended turns out he his a mean shyster by the name of Hog Billiard. She does the first thing she can do and that's steal a horse and get out of town. When the owner of the horse catches up to her and realizes what the problem is he takes her home to his mama and does what he can to protect her from Hog who is set on revenge!
Satisfying mail order bride tale with just a bit of a twist to make it fresh. While parts of the story were a tad predictable overall the interesting characters and few plot twists kept me reading until the end! I really enjoy reading Cia Leah's work and will continue to read whatever she writes because I know I can count on a good clean historical read.
Pride comes to Texas to marry her husband, unfortunately he lied in his letters and isn't a wealthy rancher...he is a dirty, good for nothing man who likes to drink and mistreat women. She refuses to marry him and falls in love with an upstanding member of the community, Nick.
This was a plausible story with just enough detail and character development to hook me. I would have liked the romance to be developed more but it was another nice quick read.
