I hate giving a book the benefit of a doubt and then having it go sour on me.
This was not fun. There were so many things left unexplained. This is coming from someone who can and has overlooked details in the past if the story was engaging enough. This one is not one of those times, unfortunately.

Good But Not As Good As First Book
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3.5/5, rounded to 4 on Goodreads)
Fractured Bonds by Sable Wynn was an enjoyable read, but it didn’t quite live up to the first book for me. I’d rate it 3.5 out of 5 stars, which I’d round up to 4 stars for Goodreads.
The biggest issue I had with this book was how repetitive it felt. Many of the scenes either seemed to be rewritten versions of earlier moments or carried the exact same emotional tone, so it often felt like I was reading the same interactions over and over again. Because of that, the story started to drag, and the book felt much longer than it needed to be.
That said, I was still engaged in the overall story. I continue to enjoy the world, the academy setting, and the characters, which kept me turning the pages. I wanted to see what happened next, even if the pacing wasn’t as strong as it could have been.
Overall, I liked Fractured Bonds, but I think it would have benefited from tighter editing and trimming some of the repetitive scenes. It was a solid continuation of the series, just not nearly as compelling as the first book. I’m still interested in seeing where the story goes next.

Still confusing
The story line would be ok if you are a scientist or someone who loves science and gets it. For those of us who have been out if school for 30+ years, well, let's just say I'm having to skim whole sections because I don't feel like trying to figure out WTH is going on. This book is just as confusing as the last book. We still don't know exactly what kind of world this is. All we know is that there are bad people trying to keep power and create power, but God only knows why. We have no explanation of why the Center and Academy are dead set on power suppression and power grabs. The whole Void twist seems unnecessary and just another way to create drama when we already have too much unexplained drama. I will read the next book because the plot is ok. However, I don't really think I'd recommend the series to anyone who likes to know WTH is going on.

in the second book there is more character development and less world building which is what I was hoping for. There were a lot of repetitive explanations of feelings. I'm excited for book 3!!

This series has kept me wanting to see what happens next. Luckily I have the next book and can dive right in. Still have hopes on Rhys.
