Gayle is a Scot who, rather lazily, still lives in Scotland - for now. She has several novellas and short stories under her belt, and has written an audio play for a forthcoming fiction podcast series.
The first of two weird fiction short story collections, VULNERABLE IN FRONT OF FICTION, VOL 1, is out now!
This is a very entertaining read, more like the first chapter of a much bigger book than a self-contained story. After all, if you have a character who has just been offered the chance to step through the looking glass, we wanna come along for that ride, especially if it includes the deliciously complicated mechanism of time travel. Gayle Ramage has a witty, easy-to-read style, which makes the prose skip along at a lively pace. I’d rate it much higher if there was more of Darcy's story included in this volume.
Thoroughly enjoyable, very witty so far...and what!?! The end? 12 pages!?!
Oh man.
Cruel, I tellya. Just plain damn cruel. Ok, what a very clever author, got us right where she wants us, bloody addicted and craving for more. The author has a wonderfully playful prose and a rather naughty sense of humour without explicitness. An absolutely engaging protagonist, attractive Aussie office worker girl working in London leading a mundane life, tiring of her male colleagues advances, and past mistakes of sleeping with the wrong men, clearly wanting something more in life...and of course gets more than she bargained for.
This is certainly one tasty starter but sooooo short, even for a novella. Even some of my book reviews are longer than that, albeit far far less entertaining. Still, 1 star taken off for cheek!
I'm ready for the main meal now please...please?
Edit: There is one more prequel (The Shoemaker's Son) which I just also read and its an absolute blast, thrice longer and thrice more fun, 4.5/5 stars. Once you read these starters, you will be hooked and there's no escape from the crave you will suffer in waiting for the main 1st novel in this promising series, A Head for Assassination in Jan 2013.
A wicked short story and prequel to a first novel that I'm really looking forward to reading. Both chilling and scifi at the same time. This (being a short story) gives us a glimpse of the kind of unique and quirky stories that I think Gayle is going to write. I'm very much looking forward to what is coming next!
This prequel #1 was such a fun little read. I couldn't stop grinning from the witty and typical British humour. It's like Bridgette Jones meets assassins. Cannot wait to finish the sequel to this prequel: Shoemaker's Son.
Wow. I thought it would be good, but I didn't think it would be this good! Where ever Darcy ends up, it's got to be better than that crappy office surrounded by buffoons. It was very good, very short, and certainly leaves you wanting more. Since it's described as a 'prequel to the 1st in a series', I am completely, 100%, on the edge of my seat waiting for the 1st novel to come out. Gayle Ramage is definitely an author to watch.
Well if that title doesn't make you want to read this little shortie - I don't know what will! Free on Smashwords, Cigs, Bolan and Strange Men with Guns is an appetiser to A Head For Assasination by upcoming writer Gayle Ramage. It combines time travelling with dark humour. One to watch :)
This story would have gotten five stars if it was a bit longer and the editing done better. I like Ms Ramage's way of writing, though, and I hope her following books are of better quality (editing wise) which will make them a nice read.
