This book got into the action right from the start and was fast paced. Sean and Neils backstory is told throughout the book, which helps understand the way they react to various situations. It does have a lot of characters in it and being of the gangland genre there is a number of deaths throughout the book, which can sometime stretch the believability, but if you are a reader of this genre this is expected.
This was a 4-star read for me as there were a couple of parts in the book that did not really add to the plot. I would recommend particularly for fans of the Martina Cole and Kimberley Watts style books.
My thanks to Bloodhound books for the advanced copy of this book
Thrown in at the deep end from the first page. Older brother Neil, leader of his own crime gang, orders younger brother Sean to kill his wife Holly. Just when you think Neil has it all under control it seems Sean has a problem. Where do their loyalties actually lie and to who? or is it all just 'The Game'. Brought up by their father into a life of crime their mother tried her hardest to keep them from. Story does drop snippets of why they end up how they are. Book ends with unfinished business and I hope there is a sequel to follow. Thank you to Bloodhound books and author Alex Rose for an early copy of The Game in return for an honest review. If you like Martina Cole, Kimberley Chambers, Emma Tallon, this is the book for you.
I wanted to like this book more than I did. Probably a 3.5 stars for me, I just didn't feel engaged with the main characters in the way I wanted to. The story of Sean and Neil is told in a mix of current day and historical which tries to explain how the brothers ended up as they are, but I just didn't feel fully engaged. Id have preferred it as a linear story rather than flirting back and towards in time. Grateful to Bloodhound books for sending me an advanced copy to read and review. Not my favourite, but sure a lot of people will enjoy it
Neil orders a hit on his wife Holly and he orders his brother Sean to make the hit. This book has explosive energy and the environment is a riot. I was enthralled in the dark and gritty dirt of the gangland world. It's one of the best.
I really enjoy this genre and I've read a lot of gangland thrillers which I've really enjoyed so always look forward to reading this type of book by a new author, although a good enough read I just didn't enjoy it that much but I'm sure there's plenty of others that will love it
