“Again, Miss, if you’d be so kind!” Josie looked up from the mud at the NCO instructor, thinking back as to how she got here. Oh, decisions, decisions! What does a young person do with their life after finishing education? For most young people, this is determined by their personalities, their interests, their skills, their qualifications, their opportunities, and to a great extent, their situation in life; i.e. parents, family, financial stability, and although it’s not strictly legal, whether their face (or body) fits! Josie Fortune was an intelligent young woman, who actually had many of the above criteria checked. However, she also started life as a boy. Towards the end of her time in school, she not only had to deal with a major gender transitional period, but also all the upheaval of a major criminal investigation into a crooked MP. (See WHEN FORTUNE SMILES by Tanya Allan) Now, as she leaves university, she had put all that behind her. Now, as she seeks to look forward, she finds that her past keeps cropping up; not least in her own mind. Using contacts she made during the investigation, she finally makes a choice. It is not a choice that anyone expected, especially her family, who are still reeling from the previous revelations. Josie joins a special department within the Security Intelligence Services, becoming one of the faceless ones who work hard to keep our society safe from behind the scenes, often risking their lives in the process. Join her as she sets out on a new phase of her life, in which she will be challenged on every level, not least her personal fitness and her ability to survive in a very harsh world!
Tanya Allan is a prolific writer of various works, including novels, short stories and poetry. Some of her work, relating to transgender issues, may be familiar to those who feel that perhaps life would have been easier had they been born with a body and mind of the same gender. She is in the process of publishing all other work under the same name.
Tanya is now settled in the southern half of the United Kingdom (sometimes known as England). Born and educated in Scotland, and having experienced well over a half-century of life, in a myriad of guises, mostly involved keeping the realm safe and secure from enemies, both domestic and foreign, Tanya has a more sedate life now, concentrating on grandchildren, dogs, travel and writing.
Fantastic read and another intrigue and mysterious adventure including the harsh life of a secret service agent and also the beginning of a new life for a former make who is now a heroine in her own right.
