With everything to gain and even more to lose, will their love survive?
An ancient prophecy threatens everything Opal and the others believe about the future of the Seam, while new adversaries sow fresh hate in a court susceptible to unrest. To prevent bloodshed and a war built on terror, Dru sacrifices herself as the prize in a set of harrowing marriage trials, jeopardizing her chance to find happiness in the arms of a certain handsome dark lord.
When the pressure is on, the battle lines are drawn, and new faces at court bring more questions than answers, Opal and her friends won’t stop fighting for what is right—even if the result is a terminally broken heart.
The stakes are at their highest and so is the heat between characters who are living each day as if it is their last. Join the Shaedes on this final epic adventure full of spice, magic, longing—and hope. True colors will shine, and all truths will eventually be brought into the light.
It’s dark fae Hunger Games meets all the warmest parts of Brave, as favorite characters and their deepest desires are put to the ultimate test. Fans of LJ Andrews, Holly Black, and Sarah J. Maas will devour this dramatic conclusion to the dark and romantic Soul Magic Series.
Jenny Grimes writes fantasy romance novels that focus on the blurred lines between worlds, the darkness you’ll find in all of them, and the love that resides there too. She creates her characters and spins her stories from her home in the human realm, where she raises her three little book dragons with her husband, and spends a healthy amount of time reading, travelling, and creating art.
Okay, I’ve always loved this series, but this final instalment in the Soul Magic Series was easily my favourite.
While I’m genuinely sad to close the door on this journey, I’m so impressed with how beautifully Jenny wrapped up the characters’ individual stories while still leaving the world open for future possibilities. It felt like the perfect balance between closure and promise - the kind of ending that honours everything that came before while reminding us that this world is still very much alive.
For those of us who have been invested from the beginning, Opal, Edmyn, and Farris’ relationship has always been the true backbone of the series. Watching their love evolve over time, finding its rhythm, strengthening through hardship, and becoming a source of real empowerment, has been such a rewarding journey. Their bond feels steady and enduring, the kind of love that proves itself again and again through loyalty, trust, and choice.
Along the way, we also get to see the other High Shaedes finding their own versions of love, each pairing perfectly suited to their personalities. And I have to say, Dru and Markis might be one of my favourite dynamics in this book. The banter, the tension, the push and pull between them, all balanced with that undeniable devotion beneath the surface. They bring the zing, but also those delicious “I’m not making this easy for you” vibes that made their story so entertaining and somewhat heart wrenching to watch unfold. I won’t lie there were times I wanted to shout at Dru, “what are you doing woman!”.
By the end, it truly felt like every Shaede had grown into their role. Considering how young and relatively inexperienced they all were and the immense pressure surrounding them, the way they navigated politics, conflict, and responsibility with determination and fairness was incredibly satisfying to witness. More than once I found myself thinking how proud the loved ones they’ve lost - parents, guardians, mentors, would be of the leaders they’ve become.
The trials were such a fantastic addition as well. They brought tension and excitement while giving us deeper insight into each character’s strength, resilience, and resolve. They never felt separate from the main plot either, instead they wove seamlessly into the story and raised the stakes beautifully. And I absolutely cheered at one particular moment when a certain someone made an appearance. Such a brilliant scene.
And I have to say this: so much love for Markis. Here’s another character whose life has been shaped by darkness and hardship, yet he holds onto such a strong heart and unwavering devotion. He refuses to give up, not on the people he loves and not on doing what’s right and that kind of resilience makes him impossible not to root for.
I also really loved the layers of court politics woven throughout the story. It added intrigue, tension, and kept me constantly wondering where alliances truly lay. Watching the characters travel between lands and interact with the different courts was such a great way to expand the world and I loved that some of the courts I expected to be the most difficult actually ended up surprising me.
Overall, this book was incredibly well written and completely absorbing. I was hooked from start to finish and absolutely devoured it. It felt like a deeply satisfying conclusion while still leaving space for future stories in this world, which I would happily return to in a heartbeat.
I can’t believe this series is over! But what an incredible ride it has been. Being able to watch these characters grow into their power and find love in the most unexpected of places is such an amazing thing to see and I’m so honored to be a part of this amazing arc team.
Join Opal and her friends in one last intense mission where they will face challenges they have never experienced before. This story follows Dru, Opal’s best friend and one of the High Shaedes. When she lets love into her life in the form of a handsome dark fae named Markis, she and her love will have to fight to fight tooth and nail to maintain the peace they just found. Will there love survive?
For me, after just reading the first few pages I was already in love and knew I’d give it a six star rating! Jenny once again shows her amazing writing skills and paints beautiful images and scenes with her words, by gripping readers by the heart and holding on tight. The emotions I felt while reading were all over the place especially the ending but I absolutely loved the emotional journey! If you’re looking for yearning, redemption, found family, high stakes, and marriage triples, then please check out this book!
And can we just take a moment for Lord Markis! He may be my new favorite book boyfriend! Or at least in my top three! His devotion and determination and integrity during this story was so beautiful and amazing to see. He may be a big, rough, and intimidating male, but really he’s such a sweetheart!
The best thing I love about this series was the beautiful and powerful friendships with Opal, Leyanna, Glory, and Dru. I said it in my first review but these girls remind me so much of my own friends and how close we are in our bond. Always there for each other and so supportive. Lifting each other up and encouraging each other to follow their destinies!
If you love ACOTAR, Hunger Games, Cruel Prince, and Fourth Wing, then please check out Shaedes of War Jenny Grimes, this beautiful dark romantasy will be available everywhere March 24th and be sure to check you the rest of the completed Soul Magic Series! I highly recommend this entire series and I honestly can’t wait to read more from this author!
It was sad to see this series come to an end but it was a fun ride. This book was the perfect ending to this story.
While this book is in Opal’s pov it follows Dru especially in the second half. Dru is the prize of a marriage trial with 4 competitors and only one of them will walk away with her hand. Will it be her dark lord or will it be someone else?
I loved Markis in this book. He didn’t want to lose the love of his life so he would do whatever he had to in order to keep her even if it meant possibly dying. Who wouldn’t love a man that would do anything to make sure you were okay and to keep you even when you were fighting yourself and not believing you deserved happiness.
Poor Dru I felt for her so much in this book. She would throw her own happiness in the trash to protect her people. No one should feel like they have to do that.
I really liked the second half of the book with the trials. They were fun and kept me on the edge of my seat especially the third trial. That third trial had me scared because I didn’t know how it would go. You hope it goes one way but you never know.
I also loved seeing Edymn and Farris’s relationship in this book. They are always a funny pair and I loved seeing how much their relationship grew. They both love Opal but also each other and you can really see it in this book.
I absolutely adored Collin. That kid might be Farris’s half brother but that doesn’t mean he isn’t treated like family. I loved getting to know him and seeing him grow up.
Overall I really liked this book and while it’s sad to see this series end I can’t wait to see what Jenny writes next.
I just have to share my favorite quote from the prologue: “You don’t know how beautiful you are, Dru. You don’t know how bad I want ye or how much I can’t stop thinking about ye. I’d dig a hole to the other side of the world if it meant I’d find you there waiting for me.”
Thank you so much Jenny Grimes for the eARC of Shaedes of War. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
It’s always a little bittersweet to finish the last book in a series. However, Jenny Grimes did an amazing job writing the final installment in the Soul Magic series in a way that will leave readers feeling satisfied about their last goodbye to the beloved characters they’ve gotten to know over the last four books. It’s heartfelt, intense, romantic, full of twists, and of course, spice!
One of my favorite parts of the book was the three marriage trials Dru’s potential suitors had to complete in order to secure her hand in marriage. I absolutely flew through the pages nervously cheering on my favorite contestant, while trying to figure out how he was going to successfully conquer each task. By the way, the first trial was my absolute favorite! I’ve not read about a trial like that before in a romantic fantasy book, but I hope I read more in the future because it was diabolical!
Let’s talk romance! Although the series is “why choose”, I appreciated that author Jenny Grimes included scenes that featured FMC, Opal, with each of her partners individually. I do have one mate that I’m more drawn to than the other, so I enjoyed reading about their specific romantic connection one more time.
Finally, I loved the two epilogues! What a great way to end the series!
In the pages, you will find: 👰♀️Marriage trials 🧛🧚♀️Vampires vs fae 🔮Prophecies ❓Why choose romance 🌶️Spice 🪄Magic 🤯Betryal 📕The final book in the Soul Magic Series
Shaedes of War by Jenny Grimes Soul Magic Series book 4 and finale! Releases 3/24!
Thank you to Jenny for entrusting me with an early copy!
Modern day romantasy Why choose, found family, several romances, unique color magic system, each book expands the world building, traumatic pasts, court politics, prophecy, talking animals, betrayal, marriage trials, fae/vampires/dwarves, redemption
In the final book of this series, we see the peace our crew has fought so hard for be threatened due to a prophecy. Dru is convinced she needs to marry to keep the peace, and then this offer is turned into a set of trials for her hand. Her dark fae love enters even when most think he will not be able to win. But he would rather perish than watch her marry another. Will love win the day or will the balance choose another victor to be the parent of the chosen one?
Ooops I stayed up til 1 am to finish this. We still are experiencing the story through Opal's POV, which I enjoyed as we are still seeing her come to terms with her magic. And because she is at the center of the prophecy. As with the rest of the series, I love Opal and her her mates as well as the rest of this found family! The multiple romances have made me so happy as we make our way through the series! Ahhh the ending!! This was a wonderful finale to the series and I'm excited to see what Jenny does next!
Firstly, I simply adore the way Jenny Grimes writes. Her vernacular, her tone, her descriptions… I like to say her writing is like a decadent slice of chocolate cake. It’s addictive!
Secondly, the Soul Magic series was my fist ARC series ever, and it’s always had a special place in my heart. To see it finished in such a fantastic way was inspiring and so satisfying. This beautiful conclusion to what has been one of my favorite stories to date is the perfect last book. It ties up all loose ends, gives us really creative and exciting trials that step away from the typical stuff we see in books, and gives us two amazing epilogues full of tear-jerking content.
Thirdly, I can’t recommend this series enough. It’s a solid story with incredible and memorable characters, sexy spicy scenes, and stories that stick with the reader.
Shaedes of War is a beautiful conclusion to a wonderful series, and it gives us a satisfying and emotional ending. I loved every second of this book.
Thank you, Jenny, and please write us more stories!!
It’s always a bitter sweet when a series you love comes to a close. This series definitely felt fresh and new compared to other Romantasy books I’ve read. This book did give the series closure in its plot and characters, but leaves room for the author to continue another storyline if she chooses.
I loved Markis and Dru and their relationship. I also enjoyed including trials in this story, however trial one was a little cheesy (in my opinion). The final trial was exciting though and had me on my toes wondering how it would end!
I enjoyed seeing more of Opal with Farris and Edmyn and seeing how comfortable they have grown with one another. Their chapters of just them together were my favorite parts of the book and I could’ve used more of that!
Thank you, Jennie for allowing me to be on your arc team for this series!! I loved them so much and I’m grateful you allowed me this opportunity!
“You turned a dark magic spell into a field full of flowers?” 🌸✨
Shaedes of War is the fourth book in the series and such a fun read! It starts a little slow, but the intensity really builds as you go. 🔥 The trials gave me Hunger Games meets Triwizard Tournament vibes, and I loved them—especially the last one. 👀💥
Edmyn and Markis bring such a great contrast to the purity of the Shaedes, and their love for their mates is intense .❤️🔥 And wow… the spice in this one 🌶️🔥 let’s just say… toe-curling and mind-spinning. 😮💨
Oh—and Collin.🥹 You will fall in love with him. Such a sweet kid who just wants to protect the realm and become fae… but will they let him? 👀✨
As with the other books, I loved discovering the different Shaedes and their powers. Honestly, I’d take a bit of each… plus a dragon 🐉 (her name would be Cora. 💁♀️)
Thank you so much to Jenny Grimes for including me on her ARC team. 💖📚
Shaedes of War is a beautiful ending to a beautiful series. Reading Opal and Dru have their moment in the sun and seeing what true friendship and leadership is through their relationship as they take on a final challenge in being the High Shaedes is beautiful and breathtaking. There were so many amazing moments through out the book and so many twists and turns that you don't quite know what's going to happen next. There are sad moments, angry moments and celebratory moments and Jenny wove them together and created a beautiful ending to her series debut to the fantasy world. I'm so happy that I got to be a part of her journey starting with Shaedes of Power and seeing this wonderful world that she has created and the spice was a nice bonus *wink wink*. If you haven't read Shaedes of Power yet, read it and following two, Shaedes of Fire and Shaedes of Beasts, so that you can read this beautiful finale!
Finally back to my favourite thruple 😭 I missed being with Opal, Edmyn and Farris. I was really happy to see Opal coping so well with her magic. I was delighted to see Lennyx and Glory so happy together after everything they both went through in the last book. Oh Dru 😭 My heart was breaking for her! And for Markis, they’re perfect for each other. The trials were so interesting, they kept me on my toes for sure. I could never guess what Jandell would come up with and I couldn’t decide whether to trust her or not. I was so glad to trust her in the end. This book had me gasping, happy crying multiple times, and in awe of every single one of these beautiful characters that Jenny brought to life. I am so grateful to have gotten the chance to witness their journey from beginning to end, it was truly magical.
The fourth and final installment in this incredible romantasy series is a finale worth praising!
When an ancient prophesy threatens to destroy the Seam and new enemies create discourse throughout the court, everything Opal and her friends are in danger. To prevent tragedy and war, Dru offers herself as a sacrifice to participate in marriage trials. Will the characters readers have grown to love succeed or are the stakes too high?
The love story will have you swooning and kicking your feet. The rest? Prepare your heart. I cheered. I swooned. I bawled my eyes out. Shaedes of War is the finale this epic, fantastical world deserved. Applause for Jenny Grimes! She has truly created one of the most entertaining, emotionally charged, and imaginative fantasy series! I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to read and review aince the beginning.
JENNY!!! girl i'm... well, truthfully, i'm in despair. because i can't believe this story is really over. i know there is so much more to come from you and other series, but opal truly has my heart. reading the love shared between her and... well, you know. it just... i can't get over how incredibly heart-wrenching this story could be, while enthralling me from page one. no one was trustworthy until i had read the last page, and that is a testament to how you write your characters. they have true dichotomy. i'm obsessed.
thank you to jenny grimes for my ARC copy. this review was left of my own volition and there was no reward or incentive to review positively. i just really love jenny, okay?
Jenny did it again with another fantastic book for the soul magic series and the most perfect way to end this series.
This whole series i was in love with Edmyn and Farris's devotion and love toward Opal. but this story is was so in love with Markis.
Those little love letter he left to Dru. I loved he was constantly stealing her away from her courtly duties to make sure she was loved and had time for herself.
The marriage trials had me guessing on what was planned next.
And that ending was just perfection to finish out this series.
Jenny thank you for writing such a beautiful, magical, and loving series!
I'm so sad that my favorite series has come to an end. Jenny writes in the most beautiful way and I'm so thankful to have been given the opportunity to go on this journey with her.
I loved that we get to see not only our main trouple, but also the individual Shaedes along the way battle through their own issues and trials and this book does amazing things for our girl Dru.
The Shaedes have all grown so much and this was the perfect ending to show that they aren't the young ones who were thrust into the position years before. I'm sad it's over but I feel like there was room left to explore the realms further in the future should that happen.
What a great ending to this series! After three books of constant conflict, it sure was time for the High Shaedes to get some much needed rest...or so they thought. We spend the first half of the book exploring the beauty of the realm before a new threat emerges, and Dru takes it upon herself to make the ultimate sacrifice for her friends and the realm. Its a war for her (heart) as marriage trials commense, not at all whatw e expect. Will the Balance bless Dru with what she needs to save her friends and family?
I can’t believe that this is how she wrapped it up like I feel all my feelings right now. I have been so appreciative to be a part of her arc team. These books are just wonderfully captivating and the storyline is good. The spice is spicy and the characters are all very intertwined where you care about all of the characters and it’s not like why is this happening? I just really like how Jenny writes her stories I mean these have all been so good and I am very happy with the conclusion to soul magic.
The amount of times this book had me in tears is absolutely insane! Shaedes of War is the fourth and final book of this series and the absolute journey it was is nothing short of phenomenal.
Markis and Dru are going to have you swooning, crying and clutching your souls! The entire book will have you crying, cheering and gasping until the very end!
Following this unpredictable and incredible journey of Opal and the High Shaedes has been such an adventure and honor.
Shaedes Of War did not disappoint in picking up where Shaedes of Beasts left off and diving into Dru's story. while also watching all of the Shaedes expanding and growing. So much unravels and becomes discovered that I wasn't expecting anything that actually came to fruition.
Stakes are high and the spice delicious. The anticipation experienced was delicious and the twists were shocking.
I will admit that this was a book that I wasn't ready to read and I'm feeling bittersweet about the fact that I am. I've had the honor of being an ARC for this entire series and I'm not ready to let these characters go. The High Shaedes and their amazing side characters will live forever in my book world!!!! ✨️📚✨️
this is an adult content book and does include content warnings.
Oh my! I can’t believe this series has come to an end. I enjoyed reading each and every one of these books.
Shaedes of War was the bittersweet ending to Jenny’s four book series. I loved this book so much. The characters and story were so well written. I loved reading about the thruple but I think Markus stole my heart in this one. So sad to be done with this series but I can’t wait to see what Jenny has in store for us.
Thank you so much to the author for the advanced reading copy; this is my honest review. I had so many emotions reading this book! So much anticipation, fear, hope, heartbreak, and love abounds in these pages. Dru’s character arc is just stunning and I loved seeing her embrace who she is. As always, the spice is sizzling and the court politics are dramatic! Who can you trust?!
this book! ahh. its so good. it is a perfect conclusion to this series. Jenny's world building is so good I always feel like I am there with the characters experiencing the trials and tribulations that are happening for peace. its such a transformative book and i think its beautiful in all ways a story can be. highly reccomend this!
So I absolutely adored this entire series. This 4th and final instalment of The Soul Magic series truly blew my mind. The way that all the characters got their space to finish their part of the story was beautiful. I love the way everything was tied up neatly and I’m so happy with all of it. This was a great series and I highly recommend it.
What. A. Finale. This book wrapped up the Soul Magic series with non-stop emotion, wild twists, and the kind of payoff that makes you want to reread the whole thing immediately. Dru, Opal, the prophecy chaos…everything hit so hard in the best way. I’m obsessed. Series officially complete and absolutely worth the ride.
Thank you Jenny for having me along for the entire ride!
Absolutely amazing. What a spectacular way to bring the shaedes to a glorious end. I was at the edge of my seat. It kept me guessing the whole time. I literally cried over this one. This may be the end of the line but it's my absolute favorite one 🖤🖤🖤 Beautifully written!
Fantastic end to the series. I couldn't put it down and read the last two thirds of the book in one day. The story was not what I expected but exactly what the series needed to end on. I cannot wait to find out who the spin off series is about!
The end of the book was an exhale of breath I didn't know I was holding, a moment of calm I didn't know I needed. Its always fun to meet new shaedes and see the antics they get up to. This may be my favorite in the series so far. And Markis? Swoon 😍
Markis is so the perfect soulmate for Dru but buckle up buttercups this is not your average fae-rytale soulmate story. This one has some unexpected twists, heartbreak, and a surprise ending.
I have absolutely had so much fun being a part of the arc team for this series and seeing how far all my favorite Shaedes have come! Thank you so much to Jenny and her incredible team for bringing me along for the ride! If you haven’t already read the other books in the Soul Magic series download your copy today and I will see you on the other side of the Seam!
Finishing this series broke me. This book kept me captivated from start to finish! I absolutely fell in love with Markis and his devotion to Dru. The ending of the book was absolute perfection, Jenny could not have created a better conclusion for this series. I felt all the emotions!
What a fabulous end to a beautifully written series! I can close my eyes and see everything that is written. Made me want a lemon!! And once again, here I sit after finishing one of Jenny's books wondering what can possibly top this? Keep those words coming Jenny Grimes!
Wonderful! Amazing! Such a fun time. The journey thru the seam was fun, but the trials for Drus hand was even better. There were some tense moments . Also 🍋 . IYKYK.
Always a wonderful time with Jenny’s books and this one was perfect.
