The Null & The Devoid

Rate this book
Max and Taylor have spent the last decade running.

From the people who killed their families. From an organization that wants to experiment on them… dead or alive. And from an epidemic that could drive Taylor insane and unleash his psychic abilities.

But even fugitives need to earn a living.

As one of the world’s most notorious hacker teams, Max and Taylor burrow their way in to digital closets to find the darkest secrets of their powerful targets, and expose them for all to see. The biggest drawback—a list of ruthless enemies who want to see them crash and burn. Literally, if possible.

And now, they face their greatest danger—exposure.

Someone knows who they are, and is threatening to expose their secret. If they can’t stop their unknown assailant and hide their tracks, staying alive may be the least of their concerns. And staying sane may be impossible.

Science Fiction Suspense with a Hint of Romance

Welcome to a futuristic world controlled by a Church that wants to rid the planet of everyone with special talents. Empaths and Psys and Kays come in organic and Synth varieties. Synths live a long time without aging, maybe forever.

Max is special. She’s a Null, which means her thoughts can’t be read. She doesn’t truly understand why she’s a Null and while she’s heard rumors of others, she’s never actually met one. Taylor is Max’s closest friend. They’ve known one another since they were children. He’s a Psy and she’s his ‘quiet place,’ where he can go to get away from the welter of everyone else’s thoughts.

They make their living by tag teaming cyber espionage. The best part of this book was the world building, which was spot on and consistent. Max is an engaging heroine, and Taylor comes into his own before the book ends.

The plot is tightly woven and the premise believable. The way the story ends leaves things open for another story featuring the same world and characters. A solid four and a half stars from me.
