Think Freida McFadden, but with a darker, grittier edge. Sebastian Reth takes us into the atmospheric town of Onemana, where Julian Miller discovers that exposing secrets comes with a deadly price.
The characterisation is incredibly sharp, and the breakneck pace had me hooked from the very first chapter. In true thriller fashion, the plot twists are genuinely shocking and kept me guessing until the very end. Reth’s vivid descriptions make Julian’s world feel startlingly real—I felt completely immersed in the setting. This is a must-read for thriller fans, and I can’t wait to read more from this author!

This book stayed with me long after I finished it. Not because of shocking twists, but because of the quiet weight of it all. The isolation, the grief, the sense that something is deeply wrong even when nothing obvious is happening it all felt painfully real. I found myself slowing down as I read, paying attention to small details, because the author makes them matter. This is the kind of novel that trusts the reader and rewards patience.

Wow. Just… wow. I picked this up expecting a mystery, but it turned into something much deeper and darker. The tension is constant, even in quiet moments. Every chapter made me uneasy in a good way. If you like slow-burn psychological stories with a strong sense of place, this is absolutely worth your time.

What impressed me most about The Soul Beneficiary is how controlled the storytelling is. Nothing feels rushed, yet nothing feels wasted. Every scene adds to the tension or deepens our understanding of the characters. The emotional distance between people, the silence of the setting, and the sense of being watched are all handled with subtlety. It’s unsettling in a quiet, intelligent way.

Julian is not an easy character to like, and that’s exactly why he works. He’s flawed, anxious, self-aware, and often in denial. Watching him confront both his past and his present was compelling. The emotional layers beneath the mystery gave the story real depth, and I appreciated that the book never tried to make him a hero. He feels human.

There’s a strong sense of restraint in the writing, which makes the unsettling moments even more effective. It’s thoughtful, atmospheric, and very well-crafted.

I honestly didn’t expect this book to affect me the way it did. I thought it would just be a mystery I’d read and move on from, but I kept thinking about it even when I wasn’t reading. There’s a quiet heaviness to the story that feels very real. It’s not fast or flashy, but it pulls you in slowly and doesn’t let go.

From the moment I started reading, I felt pulled into the world of the story. The writing is immersive without being overly descriptive, which is a hard balance to achieve. I could clearly picture scenes while still letting my imagination do some of the work. That made the experience feel very personal.

This book strikes a great balance between mystery and character development. It never forgets that the people at the center of the story matter just as much as the plot itself. By the time questions start to be answered, you’re already emotionally invested, which makes the experience much more satisfying.

The tension in this book is subtle but relentless. Even when nothing “big” is happening, there’s this constant feeling that something is off. I loved that the suspense didn’t rely on sudden twists every few pages. Instead, it builds steadily, pulling you deeper into the story until you’re fully invested.

This is one of those novels where the mood settles in before you even realize it. I found myself feeling tense and uneasy without knowing exactly why, which speaks to how well the atmosphere is handled. The quiet moments are just as powerful as the dramatic ones, and sometimes even more so. The author understands that fear and suspense often live in what’s left unsaid.
