This book is part of the Images of England series, which uses old photographs and archived images to show the history of various local areas in England, through their streets, shops, pubs, and people.
I love these books of old photos and have enjoyed many of the ones done on American localities. This is my first of the British series. While the photos are great and the captions may be adequate for a native of Erdington, I felt lost and couldn't place them into much of a context. I also recoginized that the English, like the Americans, find that the easy way out of tearing down the old for the new even if the old was great and the new is usually no improvement. Ah . . .
