The steamy story of Annabel Frost and Aidan Flynn continues … Can you handle the heat?
Before Aidan Flynn had swept into her life with the destructive force of a wildfire, Annabel Frost had thought she'd had all she needed from her life. A successful career, financial independence, emotional restraint. Things that were safe, secure, steady. Everything her childhood hadn't been.
Aidan represented none of that. Reckless and risky he'd been the red hot flame that melted the icy layers of her long-frozen heart. Having run from him once, Annabel should have learnt to leave trouble well enough alone.
But now Aidan is back, turning up the heat. And regardless of the danger of getting herself badly burned, Annabel can't seem to resist the temptation to play with this particular fire.

I'm not sure where to begin to even try to describe how much I loved this book. Listen, I know that there are a ton of alpha male/Dom/sub books out there right now and I myself enjoy most of them, but honestly there isn't one of them that I've read that I've thought to myself, "Yeah, I could totally get down with this in real life." Basically I haven't read a d/s story that in real life wouldn't have me screaming, "I wish a mother-fucker would!" Until now. I stated in my review of Melting Ms. Frost that I know nothing of d/s relationships and honestly I'm still not sure if the relationship between Aidan and Annabel is truly that, but if I had to imagine the lifestyle Aidan seems to by the ideal Dom (at least in the bedroom). Actually, Aidan seems to be the ideal man in general. He seems to always know what Annabel needs, even when she doesn't know it. He pushes her when it's most important but holds back when he should. His dominance over her in the bedroom is really fucking sexy, but the aftercare he provides is even more sexy. Annabel has come a long way since we first met her. She's stronger than ever before and she seems to be loosening up finally. Her and Aidan are definitely meant for each other. There is a (sex) scene near the end of the book that was almost hard to read because it felt like a pretty powerful moment in their relationship but it was exactly what was needed to bring the story to the place in needed to be. As for the writing, well, do I really need to describe how well written this is or can you tell by the way that I describe the characters like they are close personal friends? Because that's what it feels like. Kat Black has written a story that has me fully invested. I said before I knew that there was a second book coming that I needed more Aidan and Annabel, my opinion remains the same. I could follow their story forever if Kat would be so kind. This book is hot, it's sweet and it's just oh so good.

"Playing with Fire" is the sequel to Melting Ms Frost and is equally as well written and engaging story line. I was sucked right back in, loving Aidan, having moments of absolute hate for Annabelle and times of wishin she would just open her eyes and face the very best thing standing in fron of her.
The storyline picks up six weeks after the end of Melting Ms. Frost and with Aidan coming to Annabelle determined to get her back, since in typical Annabelle fashion avoidance is her go to when emotions become involved ; so she bolts!
Aidan challenges Annabelle's walls, he is a strong alpha dominant force , patient and has an uncanny ability to read Annabelle's emotions and be what she needs when she needs it . Aidan, scares her, she is normally, an independent strong willed women and Aidan has the ability to get past all of that . Trying to get past Anabelle's original ice wall was hard enough , but now after the attack her and her mother suffered at the hands of her step father in the last book her fears and insecurities may prove to break Aidan's never ending patience. Aidan may have difficulty breaking down her emotional walls; but he has no such problem with breaking through her physical walls and he let's his dominant side shine through. He is rewarded with Anabelles physical submission after working hard to gain her trust; unfortunately Anabelle manages to break his heart and bolts again when the truth of his feelings for her become known. It takes Aidan taking severely ill to open her eyes to what she is running from, but will it be too late?

Having read Melting Ms Frost, I was eager to dive between the covers of its sequel, Playing with Fire. I really liked the characters, Aidan and Annabel, and wanted to find out where their intriguing story went next. I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed. In fact, I found this sequel to be even better than the first book.
Aidan may have melted some of the ice around Annabel Frost's heart, but he's still got a long way to go. She struggles with her past, and clings desperately to the things she's fought so hard for - her career, financial independence - at the detriment of everything else. Aidan's determined to make her see just what she's missing out on.
This was another great read. Emotions ran super high; again, the sex was off the charts hot, I loved the settings and other characters brought into the book as a slight change of pace from the first book. There were also some moments which really tugged at my heartstrings, too. Overall, this is a fantastic follow up to the first book. My only complaint is that I wanted more! Highly recommended to erotic romance fans - but you do need to have read Melting Ms Frost, first.
Let me just start out by saying that I absolutely loved this book! Every single page had me engrossed in the story. I just love these characters and I really enjoyed this truly unique and touching story. When I heard that this follow up to Melting Ms. Frost was coming out I was super excited, I enjoyed the first part of Aiden and Annabel's complicated romance and I was intrigued to see what their future would hold. This books delves even further into Annabels insecurities as Aiden tries to break down her seemingly impenetrable emotional walls. Aiden once again wowed me with his amazingly gentle yet firm approach with Annabel. He seem to always know just the right way to help her come out of her shell. The sex scenes in this book are super sexy with just a taste of BDSM. I think Annabel say's it just right when she describes Aiden as a sensualist not a sadist. Playing with Fire has a few really unexpected twists and turns and I truly enjoyed all of it! I highly recommend this story and look forward to more from Kat Black in the future!!!
This was a great second book about Ms Frost and Aiden. The author was true to the her characters as we knew them from the first book. This wasn’t just an all is good story, there where so many things that brought out the fear in me that maybe this wouldn’t end well and maybe Ms Frost would never thaw completely 😱 the story picks up where the first one left us, and some things have changed about our Ms Frost, she is a bit more open but then again some things are the same, and the main story is how Annabelle is pushed into facing her own feelings and fears which causes great turmoil in her practical mind.
**Warning: this text may contain spoilers** A beautiful ending, though I thought it was a little rushed but still beautiful nonetheless. The rollercoaster of emotions at the end were just, amazing as well as frustrating. So happy that Aidan and Annabel got married, and I love how the last chapter was a part of their wedding.
I read the first book in this series from Kat Black a long while ago now, so when I found out there was a sequel, I certainly wanted to read it but couldn't remember every detail from the first book Melting Ms Frost. Nonetheless, it didn't seem to matter once I started reading as the important details from the first book are repeated in this so we know where we are with the characters, and why they are as they are in this book. It didn't take me long to get back into Aidan and Annabel's love story, and it was nice to read their relationship develop further and see how Annabel has changed towards the idea of having a relationship with Aidan after being distinctly frosty about it previously!
Annabel is still recovering from the vicious assault on her, but doesn't want to have to rely on Aidan to look after her. She's got her mother living at home with her, both afraid of how to move on with their lives and recover. Aidan, on the other hand, is keen to look after Annabel, show her he is ready to commit to her and be there for her, even if she isn't ready for that. Now that Aidan seems to be more of a permanent fixture in her life, is Annabel ready to finally let him in fully, and how will the pair manage to balance a relationship and their very hectic work lives as well? Will Aidan be able to melt the fire of Annabel once and for all, and tell her to let her guard down and let him in?
As I said, you don't have to have read the first book to enjoy this one, but it certainly helps to have the back story of these two. The pace of the book works really well, slow enough to really develop these characters and their burgeoning relationship at a believable pace, but not so slow that I ended up bored! Annabel is still a very independent woman, determined not to rely on anyone except herself in life, but Aidan wants to show her the error of her ways. She seemed to blow very hot and cold towards Aidan, which was quite frustrating at times and I really did feel sorry for Aidan being played about slightly, never quite knowing where he stands with her.
I really loved Aidan's character, however. He was a strong man, determined to get the woman he wanted and wasn't going to give up easily. He's a very successful business, having overcome a serious illness to be successful in a different field, and you can't help but admire him for that. There are quite a few sex scenes in the book between the pair, and Aidan certainly comes across very well in these, a man who knows what he wants and isn't afraid to ask for it! These scenes are really well written, not too gratuitous, but very sexy in their own way, Kat Black certainly knows how to write these scenes. As well as these, there are some beautiful scenes set in Ireland, and the writing was good and it was vivid - it certainly came alive in my mind as I was reading - the beautiful home Aidan owns, the beach, the local village - it all sounded picturesque! There's also a few chapters set in Monaco - this was a nice escape for the story and sounded so glamorous - everything from Annabel's clothing to the casinos were described brilliantly!
This was a really enjoyable eBook from start to finish, and it was definitely nice to catch up with Annabel and Aidan once more to see where they are at now. I loved the growth of these characters from beginning to end, and finished the book with a big smile on my face. Kat Black's writing is really easy to read, creating a wonderful world with her words, and she definitely brought the characters (and their actions!) to life on the page. I really enjoyed this second outing from Kat Black, and certainly look forward to more novels from her - I do hope this won't be the last we see of Annabel and Aidan! A great, steamy read!

I was intrigued when I was first introduced to Annabel Frost and Aidan Flynn in Melting Ms Frost, but I knew there was so much more to their story. Imagine my glee when I found out that PLAYING WITH FIRE was coming out as the sequel! I'm pleased to say that Kat Black didn't let me down here, because Aidan and Annabel that I loved in the last book were back. This time though their story was more real but just as sexy as it was the first time we met them.
PLAYING WITH FIRE basically takes up right where the first book left off with Annabel reeling from something horrific that happened to her. She was trying to just get on with her life but the there times that she couldn't escape the nightmares of what happened to her. Aidan was there--trying to help her deal and wanting to move forward with her--but Annabel was still scared. She liked her life ordered and Aidan was there to turn it on its head.
Try as she might, Annabel couldn't stay away. And now she's gotten to where she could lose everything, but she can't make herself step back from the flame that only Aidan seems to be able to stoke.
PLAYING WITH FIRE was what I wanted to see more of in the first book. We really got to see the softer side of Annabel. But we saw more of what was under the surface of the sexy Aidan. The chemistry between the two was off the charts, but we were given a glimpse of the couple when things weren't just fun. There were some real issues that they had to deal with, and it wasn't always pretty.
Annabel drove me batty for most of the book because she was being so obstinate, but I knew where she was coming from. There were other times, however, where she was just so vulnerable that you couldn't help but feel for her.
Aidan was the draw for me. Seriously that man had so many facets I couldn't keep up. Free spirit, business man, dominant...it was all there. And it was all just absolutely delicious. It wasn't all smooth sailing for him either but I thought was good to see him get a little ruffled.
All in all though, I was glad to see what they worked out. These two deserved their HEA. And the one Kat Black penned was the perfect one for them.
I really enjoyed PLAYING WITH FIRE. Through all the ups and down, the author made you truly care about these characters. I wasn't happy with either of them during various parts of the book, but I did care about what happened to them. The story was wrapped up nicely so I don't think we'll be visiting them again, but I certainly wouldn't mind it one bit if we did.
Playing With Fire, Kat Black Genre: Contemporary romance Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews I hadn’t read book one, but bought it as it sounded like one I’d enjoy and it was inexpensive...but I really found it hard to like Annabel, and Aiden, although I really liked him I felt he was a bit OTT, and just couldn’t see Annabel letting him get away with the things he said and did. Still if she didn’t there’d be no story! Book two picks up after the attack on her and her mum, and where Aiden has just discovered his bid for the huge wreck in Ireland has been successful. He’s busy flying between London and Ireland, trying to make things work with Annabel, and as ever its one step forward and two back for him. I know she’s had a tough past, but so do many others and they don’t act as Annabel. She’s protecting herself sure, but at the cost of being rude to others, snubbing any kind of friendliness, and very judgemental over things like her mum’s new relationship, and the gambling when Aiden takes her away to stay with rich friends. Its part of life for them and a bit of fun, but she can’t seem to accept that, and makes her disapproval clear. To me that's rude, she doesn’t have to like it, doesn’t have to take part ( and she doesn’t, there are others that don’t also) but she’s so contemptuous of them enjoying themselves it grates at me. I’m all for tolerance, they’re not harming anyone and the money could be better used elsewhere of course, but then we could say that about lots of things, such as the spa treatments she enjoys. Overall there are some hot and sensual moments and Aiden's a great guy, but I never really took to Annabel, she seems to be so busy “protecting” herself she won’t let anyone in, but doesn't help anyone else either. She never asks the staff if they’re ok, if they had a good day off, or a pleasant weekend, just stays apart from them looking very supercilious to them. Its no wonder they nick name her for her iciness. She seems to be a taker where Aiden is concerned, she enjoys what he does for her, has spats and panics sometimes, but never really says thank you or attempts to do something pleasant for him – or anyone. I just couldn’t really engage with her, and that affected how I enjoyed this book. Its a well written, well plotted romance – its just Annabel that was a fail for me. Stars:Three, a good read but Annabel.... ARC provided by Netgalley and publishers.
Firstly, thank you to Kat Black and Avon for inviting me to view an ARC of this title on NetGalley. I read Melting Ms Frost last year and fell head over heels for sexy Irishman Aidan Flynn and found a brand new author to fan girl over! You can read my review of Melting Ms Frost here.
I was soooooo so looking forward to reading this and it completely did not disappoint. To answer the question in the blurb – “Can you handle the heat?” BARELY! I love love love Aidan Flynn with his sexy Irish accent and sexy Irish words spoken throughout the story to raise the hairs on the back of both yours and Annabel’s neck! Their story so far has been a turbulent rollercoaster of emotions and feelings – all of the sexy feels – and drama. Annabel really tries to live up to her frosty demeanour but the heat emanating from Aidan makes that hard.
The story picks up from where it left off just after Annabel’s run in with her mum’s ex-partner. Aidan came to Annabel’s rescue and has come back again to show her that he’s the real deal. Aidan, for all he is sexy and his intensity can be seen as intimidating, is a genuinely caring person with a kind heart. He wants to look after Annabel and care for her but she’s trying hard not to have any of it.
The story is set between London and Ireland where Aidan is trying to live out his dream of converting a run-down building into a hotel and refurbishing its neighbouring distillery. The story takes a brief dalliance in Monaco and I loved this part of the story. It’s only one weekend but allows for utter escapism. A few years ago I went to Monaco as part of a cruise and since then reading about it in books really brings the glamour alive. This part of the story was not short on glamour but it was definitely high on the heat. Aidan pushes Annabel’s boundaries and fully explores them in Monaco making it pretty memorable.
While their sex life plays a major part in this story, the relationship that Aidan and Annabel have here grows from beginning to end. I love how Aidan is always wholly there for Annabel and how it the story forces the tables to turn on Annabel.
The epilogue hit the nail on the head although it also confirmed that, alas, Aidan Flynn will never actually be mine boohoohoo! I loved this Kat, I can’t wait to read more from you!
Review: I was so excited about reading this book, it took me a few pages to get into it but then once I had made in rods, that was me, couldn't put it down. The first book in this series was serious hot and steamy, the sexual tensions lept o the page in front of your eyes. Although this book is slightly slower in pace and there seem to be slightly fewer sex scenes, those scenes really are hot hot hot!
I love the relationship between Annabel and Aiden. I love Aiden as a character, I think he is kind and generous and a real old fashioned gentleman whilst still being up to speed with modern society etc. He is obviously awesome in bed but he really takes care of Anabel and wants to better himself in the business world as well. I didn't like Anabel as much in this novel. I think she was melted during the first novel and now she seems to have lost that hard edge and been left with an indecisive nature. She seems to flip backwards and forwards in what she wants, don't we all, but at the same time I found this a little annoying. It doesn't take away from the storyline, she just grated on me a little.
There are some glorious settings in this novel. As this is set between London and Ireland, we have the balance of the bustling busy restaurant and then the glorious Irish countryside and I have to admit, I feel in love with the Irish scenes somewhat! I really enjoyed reading about the moody ocean and the rolling hills. The part of the story that is set in Ireland really slows down the pace of Anabel's worrying, she seems comfortable there and this made for some really easy reading, we get to meet aides family as well who are highly entertaining.
Overall it was really great to find out what happens next to Ms Frost and Aiden Flynn and I really enjoyed this novel sequel. If you haven't read the first in this series, I would definitely recommend reading that first as I think otherwise, you'll have a bit of catching up to do. If you're a fan of the first novel, you definitely won't be disappointed in this sequel and I'm sure you'll love getting better acquainted with Aiden Flynn once more as much as I did!

Playing with Fire is the sequel of Melting Ms Frost. I absolutely loved the first book and I was really excited to dive into Annabel’s and Aidan’s world again.
Aidan’s back and they start properly dating. It was great to see them from a different point of view and I enjoyed getting to know them better. We learn more about Annabel’s childhood and past, which makes her behaviour clearer and more understandable. I liked Aidan much more than in the first book, because he was so understanding, caring and of course very hot and sexy. He gives her space, he takes care of her, the perfect gentleman I’d say.
We also get to know him better in this book. He goes to Ireland, to pursue his plans. That means his family is finally introduced and this beautiful surrounding in Ireland. I loved reading about his home.
The sexy scenes were the best thing about this book! Kat really has a talent when it comes to hot, steamy sex scenes. Full of desire, passion and intense moments.
Annabel had a lot to figure out in this book. Was she finally ready to give herself to Aidan?! She was definitely melting…
In the first part of the book I felt that there was no real storyline, but that changed and the drama increased dramatically, it made me wonder about their future, was there a future for them?! And OMG towards the end it got really intense, powerful and scary at times.
The title is very clever and it fits the whole story and the characters perfectly, in more than one way.
Yet another gripping and marvellous book by Kat Black, I can’t wait for more!!!
Playing with Fire is the sequel of Melting Ms Frost where we met Annabel, an ice queen who ruled her restaurant with iron hand and had no interest in personal relationships. Until Aidan. This gambler Irishman loves challenges and Annabel sure is one. But then Annabel and her mum's past came back to almost destroy them. This story begins six weeks after they ended in hospital and Annabel run away from Aidan because she realised she cared too much for him. But Aidan is back and determined to give them another chance.
In this story we get to know Aidan and Annabel so much more. They start dating and we see new sides of them. Annabel is almost ready to give herself to Aidan (not completely but close) and we start loving and understanding her a bit more, the ice queen has slowly melted. Aidan is the perfect gentleman, always anticipating Annabel's needs and giving her space when she needs it. You can tell how much he cares about her. And in the bedroom he forgets his gentleness and gives us some really sexy scenes.
It was also lovely to get to know Aidan's family in Ireland, a setting beautifully described by Kat Black. I just wanted to jump on a plane and visit the Emerald Isle (let me know if Aidan is available for guided tours). All in all Playing with fire is a beautiful tale that Aidan and Annabel's old fans (and I'm sure new ones too) will love. Full of drama and with some unexpected twists, I am sure it will keep you hooked for hours until you know everything about this explosive couple.
I would like to thank the publisher Avon for approving me to read this book on NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
After leaving Aidan at the end of Melting Ms Frost, Annabel's life went back to some kind of normality but far from getting on with her life she finds herself missing Aiden. Annabel is also confused as why he just let her walk away when Aiden returns Annabel must make the biggest decision of her life.
This is a great follow-up to Melting Ms Frost but for me I found the in some ways it lacked the intensity steaminess of the first book. I can understand why Kat choose to 'fade to black' rather than repeating the same sex scenes over and over again. Having said that the story moves along at a great pace. With this book Kat decides to go more into Aiden and Annabel's feelings and we also get to find more about both Aiden and Annabel.
Again familiar characters from the first book are back, in the form of Annabel's mum, Annabel's mum even has a love interest that Annabel disapproves of but this time she has found a keeper. We also get to see Balthazar Hunt and Damien Harcourt. Kat introduces Aiden's Irish relatives and I can see there be future books around his family. A great follow up to Aiden and Annabel's story. Aiden is still as sexy as hell.
I was so excited about this after reading Melting Ms Frost and it didn’t disappoint. Although there wasn’t as much sexiness in this book it was just as brilliant as the first. There was still some sexiness but not as often, it didn’t take anything away from story and was well written and built up when it was there.
It was great to be able to continue reading about these fabulous characters that felt like a part of me and finding out more about their lives and how things progress. I couldn’t stop thinking about them when I wasn’t reading it and genuinely felt like I was missing a good friend when I wasn’t reading it. The relationship between Aiden and Annabel was more turbulent in a real life scenario with arguments and making up and the twist had me unable to put down until I knew whether it worked out like I wanted. It took me a little longer to read this due to life getting in the way but I read 60% of this book in less than 3 hours, whilst struggling to not let it end!
I really hope there will be more books in this series and while I don’t often re-read books I have read once I could without a doubt start these again and not be disappointed that I know how it ends.
I am already excited to read the next book by Kat……please don’t make us wait too long!
Must read Melting Ms. Frost first to fully enjoy this book.
So now that Annabelle and her mom (Ellen) survived the attack by Tony Maplin (Ellen's ex)it is time to heal. As always, Annabelle is stubborn. She is dead set on healing her body, but she is still ignoring all the damage to her psyche. Her mother has the knack to go from one dead beat man to the next. They have robbed her blind and now Annabelle is set on protecting both her mother and herself.
Aidan is back in full force. His astuteness and protective instincts were the reason he was able to save Ellen and Annabelle from being killed by Tony Maplin. He is such a patient man! In this second book, his emphasis is on teaching Annabelle to trust again and heal her psyche. He is willing to do just about anything in order to win her over. There is no doubt in his mind that he loves her fully and completely and he is determined to win her over.
If book one was a winner, full of passion and a wonderful plot line, this second book is even better. The heated love scenes and bucking of Aidan and Annabelle's hard heads is more than reason enough to read this book. This story delves into what it takes for a victim to heal both in body and mind.
I felt like I missed something major with not reading the first book. This one was billed as the follow up to Melting Ms. Frost and yes you really should read it first to understand this best. I could gather enough information from it about what happened, but it still would have been much better had I read Melting Ms. Frost. Now this book was good. Some steamy scenes as well as some good emotions in there. Which is not always something you get with this genre.
**I recieved a copy from the publisher and netgalley in excahnge for a review**
That ending! You could easily fit another book in there, or at least a few more chapters to finish moving things into place before the epilogue! That is my only gripe with this book though, other than that, it is wonderful and lovely and perfect. Even better than the first one imo.
It does end up in a perfect place. I just wanted to see a few more of the steps! One last Annabel pov at least to see her making the decision. It was so lovely to see her grow and make progress. Sigh.
I was glad to see a continuation to Annabel and Aidan story because I really didn't like the way the first one ended. Sorry, but I still didn't like Annabelle. Aidan was still hot with his almost dom-self and Irish brogue. He had more action to back up his words in this one, but still left a lot to be desired.
Another awesome titles from Kat Black. I loved the first book and this was just an amazing book to follow. Annabel was a bit annoying in most places but i liked the pace of the book. Once I started it i was hooked and had to find out how it all turned out. Aidan is my favourite character. He is smooth, calm, sexy and loving. The sex scenes are tastefully done and don't leave you bored.
I read and enjoyed the first book to this story, Melting Ms Frost. The second story was by far my fave due to getting to know the characters a lot more, especially Aidan, his family and hometown in Ireland, which btw, has made me want to visit. Just before the story came to an end, I was rooting for Aidan and Annabelle’s happy ever after. A sweet romantic read with saucy scenes too!
